Dessert…

So after the dinner that night, I took Raphael here for dessert.

Both of us had the vanilla latte ice blended that I tried on my previous visit (RM12.00 each)…

I was treated to a sample of that then and I liked it a lot. This time around, however, especially when we were already so full from dinner, we thought we would not mind that in a smaller glass, probably half the size at half the price.

However, I do understand the rationale behind it, why they would need to do it like that. Usually, young people would frequent such places (and that night, there was quite a crowd for a weeknight and around 90% were girls, just a couple of guys, I wonder where they have all gone to) and they would most likely order a drink each and sit the whole night through enjoying the comfortable environment and nice ambiance and they may or may not order something to eat…unlike at coffee shops where people come and go and they can actually make a lot more with their huge turnover every day.

We tried their pumpkin mille crepe (RM9.50)…

…and their red velvet (RM9.00)…

…despite the fact that we were already filled to the brim!

The pumpkin mille crepe was good, very nicely done…

…and not sweet too, like the Horlicks that I had the last time and between the two, I think I would prefer the latter. There was a wide range to choose from – yam, green tea, blueberry, cheese, chocolate & cheese…but no, we would not be able to handle any more than the slice that we had. Another time perhaps.

If I am not wrong, the glass cabinet where the cakes and the crepes were displayed doubles as a chiller so the red velvet was rather hard initially. It was all right for the crepes to be served cold – in fact, I like it that way but not when it comes to cakes. That was why I did not quite enjoy it at first but later, it did come across as pretty nice, I would say. It was very strong on its buttery fragrance and I thought it was just the cake but when Raphael pointed it out and I tried it to confirm, it was in the frosting too! I think I would prefer the regular cream cheese frosting and leave the butter to the cake. Like the crepes, there are so many different cakes to choose from and I certainly would want to try them one by one so I guess it would be quite a while before I would have another slice of this again.

The very nice and friendly boss, Dennis, let us sample the Japanese green tea latte…

…and the cool mint chocolate latte…

…while we were there that night. Those who are into matcha would love the former with its very strong green tea fragrance and yes, we did enjoy both of them. Personally, I do like these being served in those small cups…and then, maybe I can order a few to enjoy instead of having just one in a big tall glass and that was it. For one thing, considering that actually, I am not really into these rich, creamy drinks – that, I must admit, others should not just take my word for it.  Personally, at the end of the day, I would be very much happier with the iced long black that I had before.

My friend, Sanjeev, treated us to these classic almond cookies…

…selling for 3 for RM2.00 but by then, we were way too full and could only manage one each, just to give them a try…and of course, when one is already bursting at the seams, that is not a good time to try or taste anything…so I would reserve my comments till the next time around perhaps.

Raphael was very impressed by the place and all the things on their menu and he said that was the first time he had a mille crepe. Ah well! I guess you do not get those at Starbucks, or do you? Not bad for this little ol’ town, eh? Wink! Wink!

  1. Wow everyone that has a sweet tooth will be jealous of your evening

Not as sweet as the pavlovas and the like over there. The ones here, they’ve cut down the level of sweetness which may or may not be good – may make a lovely dessert come across somewhat bland. I would think that if one is so worried about it, then don’t eat it! Or limit it to once in a long while.

  2. Green tea lattes – YUM! I’m just finishing up some Rooibos Tea and think my next cuppa will be Green Tea 🙂 It’s not unusual for me to drink it but I think I will have to find a nifty flavor or base today and savor it as fall is here. Those desserts are CRAZY HUGE wowza!

I’m not into green tea in anything other than the drink though I would not go for it all that often because of the diuretic effect. Will keep me busy for a while after a cup. 😀

  3. Ohhh. Mille crepe and red velvet! My current obsession!!

Sibu has some pleasant surprise in her sleeve. 😉

Yes, being a little town, we may not have the quantity but we sure have the quality! 😉

  4. The pumpkin crepe would be my order. I seem to like pumpkin in everything. 😉

We could taste the pumpkin in between the layers of crepe and with the cream, very light though but yes, it was there. Nice.

  5. A meal is not complete without dessert, hahaha!!!!…. Though both are so full but die die must have. The desserts looks good. Pumpkin mille crepe & green tea latte for me, pls. Thanks.

Normally I would just give it a skip but Raphael was only here for a few days and we did not have all that time on our hands so we had to have it all at one go. 😀

  6. Wow I’m certainly impressed with all the choices of mille crepes you have there! Perhaps even more than what you would find in KL? 🙂 They looked really good too!!

Yes, I’ve tried two and both were great!

  7. I have sweet tooth, i will love it… hehe…

You have these there, I’m sure….but if you come and eat these here, it would certainly seem so very much cheaper for you.

  8. I’m not a desserts person. Speaking of Horlicks, I haven’t seen much of that these days. I remember the little Horlicks sweets that come in a roll. Don’t see that at all.

Maybe it’s not Australian? Like Ovaltine. I guess you’d see more Milo there. Not sure if they still serve Horlicks at the coffee shops here or not, but the Horlicks Dinosaur and Horlicks Godzilla at one place here are very popular. Not seen the sweets here either or maybe I just wasn’t looking. Used to buy for my girl when she was small…and I enjoyed them too in my time.

  9. i also am impressed … we don’t see pumpkin mille crepe in KL … or at least i don’t remember having it 😀

They do not have it on a regular basis though – the pumpkin and the yam. It will only be available when they have really good and sweet pumpkin and good quality yam, the boss said. True enough, when I dropped by two nights ago, they did not have both – only the Horlicks, available anytime.
