Upstairs…

If there was a bigger sign somewhere, I did not see it – just this little one…

…hanging from the ceiling at the entrance to the stairs leading upstairs to the cafe…

…on the first floor.

My doctor-friend and I dropped by that night after our very scrumptious dinner and we certainly were amazed and impressed by what they had done to the place…

I was told that they got the wood from Kanowit and they have a workshop somewhere to make all the things such as the tables, benches, stools and so on.

It certainly is very different from all the rest and has its own character and appeal.

There is also a balcony…

…so one may opt to sit out there, should one be thus inclined.

This is the counter…

Dennis, the proprietor, reads my blog and he did post a comment once or maybe, twice or more and somehow or other, we ended up becoming friends on Facebook. However, I had never met him face to face prior to this. I had known Sanjeev for a long time now – he used to work at Payung Cafe and I was impressed by how he was able to work independently and was always prompt and very efficient plus he was very friendly. Eventually, he left and I did meet him again at this other place and we did go out for breakfast once before he left to work in Kuching. Since he got back to town, he had been getting in touch with me asking me to drop by this new cafe where he is now and I finally did!

Actually, both of them are not new to this thing – Dennis was running  a place like this before he moved back to Sibu and Sanjeev went and worked for him there for a while before he joined my friend here. In fact, before he went over to Kuching, he was running a little coffee place along these same lines on his own at the Sibu Heritage Centre here.

My friend wanted the long black and I had the same, iced…and though we were both very full, I just had to order this (RM9.00)…

Upstairs Coffee Horlicks mille crepe

– their Horlicks mille crepe to try…and yes, it was very nice and the best part was that it was not sweet at all unlike most of the rest that I have had elsewhere. The guys were very apologetic that their resident baker had been sick for a few days so at that point in time, they did not have a wide selection of cakes to choose from but it did not really matter to us as we could hardly take anything much after our dinner. I did say, however, that it would be nice if they could have something other than cakes and crepes as I, for one, would not be all that keen to drop by just for coffee and those and Dennis did say that they had in mind stuff like sandwiches, quiches and pies, croissants and so on. Gee!!! I would love that!

They also served us samples of their vanilla latte ice blended…

…which I liked a lot and their lemon mojita mint mocktail…

…on the house. My friend said it was very refreshing but if you ask me, let’s just say that fat people are generally not into anything sour. Hehehehehe!!!!!

They had this right above the door leading to their washrooms…

…and I just had to go and ask what happened to the rest of the scrabble set and Dennis said that his son had been asking when he could get his tiles back. LOL!!!

Well, if anyone does not know where this place is, it is along Causeway (where Wisma Sanyan is located), right above De’History Cafe (2.291352,111.826308), the first shoplot behind the petrol station opposite HSBC…

I would say it is a pleasantly nice place, worth checking out…and absolutely great for hanging out with friends!
