My friend, the neurosurgeon from Kuching, was back in town and he got in touch with me soon after he arrived. We arranged to meet for dinner the following evening and for that, he would like something exotic like what he had the last time but he would prefer to go some place else so I took him here for the Indonesian and Indian delights.
We ordered the chicken egg roll (RM11.50)…
…from the Indian kitchen to share and yes, it was very good. On the menu, it was stated that it was “roti telur” with chicken and all the rest of the stuff inside but no, it was not in any way like the roti telur that we find at the roti canai stalls. If you look carefully, you will see the filling wrapped in a layer of egg inside with some kind of Indian roti/wrap on the outside…
We certainly enjoyed that!
We also had their tandoori chicken (RM12.50)…
…and my friend loved it! He said it was so nice and juicy inside, so succulent unlike some that he had had elsewhere that were dry and hard.
He was bowled over by the seafood curry (RM16.00)…
…from the Indonesian kitchen – he said it was so very nice and I couldn’t agree more. We tried it once before and loved it so much but the second time around, they had a different presentation and somehow or other, it did not get us all that excited. Like I always say, presentation is very important and does play an important part in whetting up one’s appetite.
The ayam bakar berempah (RM14.00)…
…also from the Indonesian kitchen was just so-so. The batter was very nice, very flavourful…and the wings tasted really great but it did not come across as bakar-ed, more like deep-fried, I think. From the word bakar, I had expected something grilled or barbecued, something drier but this was different, probably the result of all the stuff used in the marinating and coating but those, I would say, were actually what made it taste nice. I certainly would, however, deduct a few marks for the fried egg…
I really can’t say they did it the way I like it and how would do it myself…
…but it was all right and all was forgiven when the waitress served us this aloo paratha…
…on the house plus the total added up to RM63.50 and the boss collected RM60.00 only from me and waived the balance. Now, ain’t that nice?
What was more important, of course, was that my friend enjoyed the dinner at the venue of my choice so very much and we certainly were so very full and satisfied at the end of it.
