Not again…

We went back to this place for lunch a couple of Saturdays ago as Melissa said that she would want the ribs (RM26.00)…

Jack Pork signature ribs

It certainly looked like they had increased the price by RM2.00 and that slab of pork ribs certainly was not as big was when we had them previously. Thankfully, it tasted as good as ever so we had no regrets ordering that.

My missus had their onion chicken rice (RM9.80)…

…which was very nice too. Melissa is especially fond of onion rings and the ones that came with the dish were pretty well done. I thought it  was nicer than what we had here.

I ordered the vinegar pork rice (RM9.80) for myself and got a bowl of rice with salted vegetables and minced meat…

…and a bowl of the vinegar pork…

It did look a bit oily but it certainly was very much to my liking – I thought it tasted really very good.

It truly was a delightful lunch and we enjoyed our orders very much. However, I still had a bone to pick regarding the very misleading promotion on the poster they had on the notice board outside (and also on cards placed on every table inside). When we were ordering the food, the waiter told us that we would get a free drink only if we ordered the burgers, and it would have to be a coke, nothing else. New, let us see what it said on the poster: SET LUNCH SPECIAL 11.30 am – 2 pm. Order any burger, meat dishes, rice and noodle dishes and get an ice [SIC]/hot lemon tea for free. I drew the waiter’s attention to that and he said that would be for weekdays only, Tuesday to Friday. Well, it certainly did not state anything to that effect on the poster!

I spotted one of the guys (owners of the place) and drew his attention to this matter. He said he had been busy taking charge of their outlets in Kuching so he did not really know about what had been going on here. Well, at least, he went and told the other guy…who came and looked at the poster and tore it down and crumpled it unceremoniously. I thought that was not very nice but I just pretended I did not notice all this going on. He came into the cafe to throw it away (Excuse me! The cards depicting that same thing were all over on every table!)…and went out. He did not say a word and I acted as if I did not know he was around. Later, the guy I spoke to came to apologise and said that they would come out with a new poster with the “fine print” added…and at least, he was gracious enough to ask about the food and hope that everything was o.k.

I went to settle the bill and it came to a whooping total of RM62.60 – the iced lemon tea my missus had was RM5.00 a glass and my iced black coffee was RM4.00 (which was not really to my satisfaction and I positively remember it was much nicer the previous occasions I was at this place – even when they were having that breakfast concept before this) and Melissa’s ginger beer was RM8.00 a can (only RM4.00 at one of the local supermarkets). Yes, I did expect them to waive the charges for the drinks to make up for the aforementioned matter…or at least for my missus’ iced lemon tea but no, there was no such thing…unfortunately!

I probably would go again since the food is consistently good (despite the jacked-up price for the ribs)…and hopefully, they would be more specific and clearer about their promotions and follow everything to the letter and not have all those flyers and posters here, there and everywhere…just for show.
