If people say you are very photogenic, it means that you look really good in photographs but it does not mean that you are good-looking, right or not? More often than not, where photographs are concerned, what you see may not be what you get. I guess that is why in advertisements, there are always disclaimers to this effect, for instance, something like this – “Product image for illustration purposes only. Actual product may vary.”
Well, I saw this…
…on their Facebook page and I hear it was also in the local newspapers…and even though I do not usually go for this kind of stuff, since my girl was home for the holidays and she would appreciate this very much, we made a beeline there the other day for lunch.
Of course, we had to order my daughter’s favourite – their oyster omelette (RM15.90)…
…and it came out looking very different from when we had it here the last time we dropped by and thankfully, it was a whole lot nicer too…
I thought those crispy and very fine hair-like frills of batter on top were very nice and the finely chopped shitake mushrooms were an added bonus too but I must say that I wished the oysters were more visible to the naked eye.
As for the burgers, I ordered the special chicken chop one (RM11.50)…
…which I thought, looking at the photos, would not come in a charcoal bun…
…but obviously, they must have cut all the buns ahead of time and the chef did not bother about who’s…oops…I mean, which is top and which is bottom. Tsk! Tsk! It certainly tasted really great though…but I do feel it was kind of pricey, don’t you think?
Melissa had their beef with cheese (RM9.50)…
…while the mum had the chicken sotong (RM9.90)…
…and both of them felt that theirs were good too.
All the burgers came with a complimentary drink.Β Too bad they did not look as nice as in the photographs.
value for money.. i must go and try.. i always wanted to try the black burger…
It is? Ya…I am sure there are lots and lots of nicer ones where you are. Pretty quiet these days – at one time, it was such a craze that everyone seemed to be opening up a burger joint.
I think most burgers are priced in that range la, i wouldn’t say its overpriced. but i guess that’s the perceived value from individuals.
We’ve cheaper ones here…. Nicer or not, I wouldn’t know. Yet to go and try. Will do that soon.
heheh, i must say, mcdonald’s is usually the one that seems the most guilty of not having its ad photos match the reality of its burgers, ya π
Oh? They’re all the same eh? π
What kind of (dark) bread did they use in all but the first sandwich? Just curious π
Japanese charcoal bread – it took this part of the world by storm last year or was it the year before? Supposed to have health benefits. Tastes the same – just like bread. π¦
I’ll have to look into that! Not sure if I have seen it or tried it. Thanks π
It took us here by storm sometime ago…and everything turned black, even our mooncakes…not just our bread.
Just like McD and KFC always get complain they’re not look alike like what appears on poster!!!
Ya, that’s what Sean said earlier. So, they’re all the same, eh? Hmmmmmm……
Agreed that the photos look better than the actual product. Like McDonalds burgers. In the picture look very big but when you buy it, so small!
I think I saw lots of people grumbling about that on Facebook or elsewhere. Looked so good in the photo but when they went to eat, it turned out to be something like a mini bun. π¦
well, “for illustration purpose only” they say?? there is this industry called food photography and also a profession called food stylist nowadays.. if human model must look good, so do food model.. you might want to watch this clip to see the scene behind the burgers photo shooting, it explains all π
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oSd0keSj2W8
I’ve seen lots before. They even use shoe polish to make the roast chicken look good. Eyewwwwww!!!!!
When I see your post title, I thought you wana post about family pictures.. Hahaha.. Oh, over here, there is one fast food outlet serving very similar burgers – The Burger Factory. Also with charcoal buns.. I think now the “in” thing is charcoal buns.. They claim it’s more healthy wor..
They’re everywhere. Dunno about that healthy bit though…especially with all the unhealthy things in the burger. More a gimmick that anything else, if you ask me.
I wouldnt mind trying the burger and oyster omelette. That o chien is what I missed from Kuching. π
The burgers are ok, but then again, I’m never into those things but the oyster omelette is a must-try. Much nicer than what I ever had in Kuching – if only the oysters were bigger. π¦
And here I thought you were going to post pictures of you and your family. You all are an attractive bunch and seem so loving. π
Oh the dark bread is appealing. Do you know what is in it to give it that dark color?
Hah!!!! Not too often, once is a while is fine. π That’s Japanese bamboo charcoal…

The oyster omelette looks good. Do you know how to cook it?
Nope. Don’t even know where to get fresh oysters here. Maybe, they get theirs via special order.
Ha ha. I love your point above “being photogenic”. You’re right of course it applies to food too!
Obviously it does! π
Oyster omelette looks good…
It was! VERY good!
Oyster omelette looks like pizza to me. Very special indeed
Yes, they call it Sarawak pizza… π
Hahaha, seriously?? Sarawak pizza??
Yes, those people in Kuching. They have had this for a long long time now. Used to go to Buntal (Damai) just to eat this – now can get at many places in Kuching. Sibu, so far…I think this is the only place. The other oyster omelette stall in town, they do it like KL/Penang style…not the same.
Now everywhere is selling all kinds of burger right? I’ve tried almost the same version like yours – In Penang has Marshall burger and Subang area has Big Hug Burger. But I would prefer to get something in value set, more worth it.
They were nice but at those prices, I don’t think I would have it again…or at least, not so soon. After all, I am not really into such things.
All looks good and I love the cripsy oyster omelette. Nom!!!…nom!!!…
So very nice, nicer than any I had had in Kuching. A bit expensive though – what’s the usual price for one there?
The oyster omelette is Sarawak pizza? That is something interesting I would like to try π. Definitely haven’t seen it over here.
Not a fan of charcoal buns..taste like normal bun and more expensive. Not so convince about the health benefits π.
Yup, more a gimmick and a passing fad. The oyster omelette, this style, was available only in Kuching since dunno when long ago – finally, we have one place here we can get it here…and they do it really well! Don’t think you can get it like this over there.
“If people say you are very photogenic, it means that you look really good in photographs but it does not mean that you are good-looking…”
Hahaha, your opening line reminds me of when someone says you are so cute, it may mean you are so ugly but adorable! π
Yup! Sometimes we have to read between the lines. π
It’s very rare to go into a restaurant and get a dish which looks like the photo. But never mind as long it tastes good, right?
I guess that’s what matters most…but usually, it may not look as good, the real thing, but it would not be too different. Sure speaks volumes about what people claim – that photos never lie.
ahem….looks ugly but taste good……cant be deceived by look :p
Sometimes the worst-looking and the smelliest can be the most delicious. π
Hey Arthur, I like the omelette… very photogenic la! Looks so good and real, like I could take a piece from the pc here itself.. hahaha….
Come on over. Almost two years now since you all last came, so many new places to go, so many things to eat…
Rarely have charcoal burgers in Singapore but Burger King recently launched their black charcoal burgers
BK too? Those burger joints in KL, Penang have had that for a long time now.
hehehe i think most places practice the “for illustration” purposes only.
I guess so. Always look better in the menu and adverts. π¦
