Pumpkin pie…

Melissa made some pumpkin pies over a week ago…

Melissa's pies

…with mushroom and she also added some grated cheddar cheese and bits of roast chicken that we had left over from the previous night’s dinner.

She even made a special one for Uncle Jimmy…

Jimmy's special

…who was in town at the time – with that pig character from Angry Birds, whatever its name may be.

It was very nicely done – the pastry was more crumbly and a lot nicer than mine and the filling was really yummy!

Inside look

Hmmm…she certainly is getting very good at cooking and baking, my little girl.

Later that day, we dropped by the Italian restaurant in town for hi-tea and we shared the Pizza La Pinano (RM28.00)…

That means that a quarter slice is only RM7.00, much bigger and a whole lot nicer and cheaper too than the quiche we had at that pie place in town and look at the filling…

– there was ham, chicken and a whole lot of goodies stuffed in it and it tasted absolutely great! It sure makes a whole lot of sense to come here for this anytime.

Incidentally, I did not bring along my camera that afternoon so if you’re thinking that the photos look kind of different from the usual, they were taken by my friend, Jimmy, using his smartphone.

Melissa wanted the calamari fritti with arriabatta sauce (RM10.00)…

CF with AS

…so I ordered that and the serving was big enough for the four of us to share.

Actually, we wanted to go for the desserts and we had their tiramisu (RM10.00)…

…which did not really tinkle my fancy. I would much sooner go for those yummy cakes that Jimmy bakes…but the panna cotta (RM8.00) was a different story altogether. It was sooooo so so good that it simply took our breath away…

– so much nicer than the disappointing one I had here when it first opened its doors and worlds better than the disastrous one I had in Kuching, the one that was served still quite frozen and really not worth ordering at all! Now I just can’t wait for the chance to go back there again to have another go at that. Yum! Yum! Yum!

Jimmy left town that evening but he was back again a few days before Christmas and left on the eve…so you can expect to see and read more of what we had been eating while he was around here. You’ll stick around, won’t ya?

  1. That pizza is interesting, looks like a pita bread stuff with filling. Melissa’s pumpkin pie looks good too! brilliant idea for adding bits of roasted chicken for the meatier bite ๐Ÿ™‚

Ya, we thought that was pita bread…but anyway, pizza is bread as well. I was looking for something I saw somebody having on our precious trip…that looked like bread sandwiches. Theirs did not look like this and this was the only thing on the menu with “sandwich” in the translation/description after the Italian name.

It was leftover chicken. I was thinking of making some chicken pies with it but since they used it up already, good lah… No need to trouble myself, just eat.

  2. I love pie… and the pumpkin pie looks delicious! She even put the pig character on top of it. Lol!

She was poking fun at Uncle Jimmy – that’s the pig character in Angry Birds. ๐Ÿ˜€

  3. What a nice pumpkin pies. Looks awesome. Melissa seems professional in baking now. She has got the interest, eh? So you just sit back, relax & eat.Panna cotta looks silky, smooth & sweet.

Yes, the panna cotta was simply perfect not like what we had at Bella Italia in Kuching – a total rip-off, that one.

  4. oh, that Pizza La Pinano looked very special, not like the pizza we used to have but more of a pie huh?? i also like the calamari fritti with arriabatta sauce, tiramisu and panna cotta~~ nice!!!

According to the description, it’s a sandwich. Come on over, I’ll treat you to all the nice stuff here. Come, come!

  5. The pumpkin pie looks excellent! Buttery and bountifully stuffed! Whenever someone asks me where to get good pumpkin pie in KL, I come out blank actually =)

None here either except at that newly-opened place in town…and we did not like it, not at all. ๐Ÿ˜ฆ

  6. What a good chef Melissa is! Now she can pamper you & wife always with her pies and cakes too. How I wished I could bake pies as I love to eat pastries. I have never tasted pumpkin pies here. You have my address, right? *wink *wink *hint *hint….

Pies are easy, not cakes or biscuits. That’s my missus’ domain – I would never dare try. Your address? No, I don’t. You never sent me anything so how would I be able to have that? I only have SK’s… ๐Ÿ˜‰

  7. Wow…Melissa has the potential to be a good baker!
That pie does look delicious. *thumbs up* ๐Ÿ˜‰

Driven by mood, like me…or in my case, it’s just sheer laziness… ๐Ÿ˜ฆ

  8. Pumpkin pie! ๐Ÿ™‚

That looks good, I’ve never done a pumpkin pie before. Good for Melissa!

Yeah, the pie looks a lot better than anything that comes out of a bakery and it looks like they have a lot of greens in there too!

Greens? That’s the sandwich pizza at the Italian place here. Nice, like the food very much…unlike when it first opened. Would always want to go back for more.

  9. Looks like Melissa did a great job with the pumpkin pie. Hope u had a good Christmas!

That, she did. Ya, Christmas was good, watch out for the posts…coming up real soon.

  10. Ai yo….. Too much food here already. You really had a sumptuous Christmas!

This one? No, this wasn’t Christmas yet…hang on! You’ll see what we had for Christmas in a few days. Hehehehehe!!!!!

  11. all the deep fried snacks just make me go : WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO~~~~
    *drooling all over my keypad*
Btw, Happy New Year Sui Tua Pui!

Deep fried? Where? Oh! The calamari! Then you’re like my girl – anything deep fried, she likes! Thanks and the same to you…though it’s kinda early. Still a week to go! ๐Ÿ˜‰

  12. Wow…Melissa can bake very well, her pie looks very very good!!
You love this Italian restaurant very much ya, had read you posted about this place quite often now. ๐Ÿ˜›
    Oh, i love Panna Cotta!!

Yes, it’s nice…but cafe, not cheap, can’t go too often…must reserve for special occasions or when friends come to town. Come back! Come back! Then I’ve an excuse to go there. The panna cotta is so so so so good! ๐Ÿ˜€

  13. Mmmmm pies look delicious! Planning to turn my leftover turkey into pies too. When i can be bothered getting out of bed that is. Merry Xmas!

We’ve some leftover roast chicken from last night’s Christmas dinner…but I don’t think it will be around long. Maybe I can use some to make cold chicken sandwiches for breakfast.

  14. Although I am not a fan of pumpkin, I am quite convinced with the pumpkin pie recipe did by Melissa. Good job there!

Her pastry was perfect, nicer than mine…mine, at times, a little bit harder but still good compared to those pastries sold outside.

  15. Oh that sounds delicious, a savory pumpkin pie. I’ve had it but it was always sweetened, will definitely make a savory one soon.

Pumpkin is actually sweet already…like sweet potatoes in curry puffs here. Never had a sweetened one. I think I prefer it savoury.

  16. May this Christmas marks the beginning of a wonderful year for us. Have a joyous Christmas!

Indeed, certainly looking forward to a good year ahead, thanks…and the same to you too.

  17. Looks like Melissa inherited your love for food – cooking, baking, eating! ๐Ÿ˜‰
I like pies too – shepherd, chicken, mushroom…all the savoury types.

Yes, are there sweet pies? I guess there are…cherry, strawberries and what not, no…thank you, not for me either.

  18. So yummy looking, the pumpkin pie! I have never eaten one before but the ones I read about are sweet ones with just pumpkin and spices. Melissa’s is a lot better with chicken and cheese in it!

It has to be sweet since the pumpkin’s sweet but cook it with garlic and butter first, good enough. Not a fan of the one we had at the pie place in town – so very strong on the herbs. Smelly!

  19. Oh wow! The desserts look great! Pumpkin Pie! I had a smoothie with pumpkin in it recently – it was nice!

Great photos as always! You have an EYE for Food Photos that’s for sure!

    Thanks. Melissa loves anything pumpkin!
