Remember me…

My KL friends went on an express boat ride upriver all the way to Kapit and back on a day trip and when they came back, they brought me these…

Ung Tong butter cakes

…and I asked them if they were from Ung Tong. That caught them by surprise – they did not expect that I would know of the place too. Well, if you may recall, I blogged about the branch here not too long ago but I did not mention it to them as I thought they would not be in the least interested in our small-time bakery, what with all those famous and classy ones in KL and elsewhere in the peninsula.

Well, what happened was, upon arrival in Kapit, they were walking around the town and were attracted by this very nice smell of bread and cakes baking in the oven…and it led them to the shop. I guess what they saw did not impress them much but they decided to just buy one of these butter cakes each to try – after all, they had come all the way so they might as well. As they were walking away, they took them out to eat and it was love at first bite. They were so overwhelmed by the soft and nice texture and the strong rich fragrance of the butter that they went right back to the bakery to buy some more. It certainly was so very nice of them to remember me then…and they bought some for me as well, thanks so much!

And talking about famous and classy bakeries in KL, this came from one of them…

RT 1

I remember that my friend, Mandy, bought some nice stuff from there for me when I was in transit on our way to New Zealand at the end of last year and this time around, one of my blog readers, who was home for a few days from KL, dropped by my house to pass me this lovely pistachio Swiss roll…

RT 2

Gee!!! I never expected that! Isn’t she so sweet as to remember me and go through all that trouble to get me a little something when she came home? I really do appreciate your thoughtful gesture, Pauline, and a big thank you to you too…and it certainly was a pleasure to have had the opportunity of meeting you in person.

And look at what came in the mail the other day!

Mamakucing pm-ed me on Facebook to let me know that she would be sending me something and I could jolly well guess what it was as she had blogged about it this year and also last year…

MC 1

– the mooncakes that were more affordable than the rest as they were on special offer even though they were all freshly made and at those prices, needless to say, they would all be snapped up in a jiffy.

I’ve got a box earlier from Annie-QΒ and I was happy that I would be having some to enjoy this year and at the same time, uphold the tradition when I was resigned to the fate that the festival would probably just go past and I would not be able to have any at all seeing that they were all so expensive…and getting even more so each year. Now, I have four more…

MC 2

…and thanks a lot to you too, mamakucing, for the mooncakes…and for remembering me. Ok…ok..I!! know! I know! I suppose it would be virtually impossible not to remember when I was dropping hints all over the place, right? Muahahahahaha!!!!!

Well, jokes aside, it certainly is so nice to be remembered, don’t you think?

  1. I only taste The Mooncakes bought from Cosway Catalog. πŸ™‚

I used to and they were good…but they were not cheap either. They had Baker’s Cottage before, dunno now – never bother to check & see anymore.

  2. I’ve never tasted a Mooncake they do look delicious. πŸ™‚

You should be able to get them there – maybe from the Chinese restaurants or Chinatown. They probably make their own…and may contain lard. The ones here contain vegetable oil…to cash in on the non-Chinese market, suitable for general consumption, even vegans. It’s pastry on the outside and bean paste (and these days, they have all kinds of varieties) inside. Very sweet though, even the low sugar ones.

  3. This is so sweet from mamakuching!!!! =]

Indeed! She and everybody else who has sent or given me things all this while, so blessed to be showered with stuff from all my wonderful friends.

  4. There goes the saying…never judge a book by its cover. Though the cup cakes doesn’t look appetising, I am surprise they taste great. Love the swiss roll. Am not a fan of mooncakes.

Ya, I also thought they looked quite awful…but one bite and you’re sold. Such strong buttery fragrance…and real butter at that. So very nice… Not cheap though – saw in my friend’s photo – tagged at RM2.00 each!

  5. Wow!! Two ladies sending mooncakes to you… doubly happiness leh!!! Enough or not?? hehehe…

Yes, so happy…can have mooncakes to eat during the festival. Enough? You want to send kah? Hehehehehehe!!!!!

    1. Don’t eat so much lo.. very sweet.. hehehe…

Nibble…nibble…like tikus. Hehehehehe!!!! πŸ˜‰ Ummmm…I guess that means you’re not sending me any lah? Sobssss!!!! πŸ˜₯ LOL!!! πŸ˜€

  6. RT is definitely one of the better pastries, everytime we went there it’s packed to the brim

Wow! So popular! Sounds like that bakery in Kapit town – always packed and everything sold out in a jiffy.

  7. Wow, what flavors? Pistachio swiss roll sounds promising to me πŸ˜€

It was nice, very soft, not sweet…plus the fragrance of the whole pistachios inside. I loved it!

    1. Glad you like it.

Frankly speaking I, myself, also trying this flavor for the first time. I planned to get you my favorite, Green Tea Swiss Roll with Azuki beans. Unfortunately, I’m out of luck. They baked sparingly because of semester break. (Btw, this is their unlisted branch, which is inside a campus… hehhe). Thus, I just grabbed whatever they had, the Wholemeal Swiss Roll with Walnut chunk, which I heard quite popular too.

Ahhhhhh!!!! I’m glad you could not get the green tea – not into anything green tea as I’m not a fan of the green smell. This one was very good. Loved the pistachios… Thanks so much once again, shouldn’t have troubled yourself – so very nice of you.

  8. RT Pastry…has some really good cakes and buns but I have not tried the pistachio Swiss roll. Their traditional mooncakes are really good, not so sweet even though it does not say low sugar.
Yes, it is indeed nice to be remembered by friends. So thoughtful of them, especially your ladies friends! πŸ˜‰

Got guys also lah…not all ladies. Hehehehehe!!!! πŸ˜‰

  9. so, u trying to say mamakucing sending u cheap mooncakes eh? hahaha…

Not cheap, but luckily, got special offer. So nice! We have Overseas mooncakes here…and they cost a bomb!!! Maybe I should sit outside one of the shops and sell – 25% cheaper than the prices inside – sure I would make quite a lot, enough to pay for our meals for a week. Hehehehehehehe!!!!

  10. Nom nomm…wait for Melissa to come back and enjoy.

She did try last weekend before she went back to her school. All gone now…except for the mooncakes. Have to nibble..nibble… Hint! Hint! πŸ˜€

  11. I see RT , mandy comes to mind πŸ™‚

    You’re welcome Arthur.

She got for you too – last time she got stuff from here and also Lavender for me. Watch out for the poslaju van – coming your way! πŸ˜‰

  12. I believe when you care for others, others will also care for you… its the circle of life!
Yes, I confessed to also being a fan of RT Pastry and a few more… when its good bread and desserts, its really hard to resist. Enjoy your mooncakes!

I am! Bit by bit, little by little. Rare commodity so must savour slowly and enjoy. Ya, what goes around comes around…so I try to go some good sometime… πŸ˜‰

  13. I like RT Pastry’s swiss roll. Especially the Taro flavor.
Oh no…. looks like you’ve already gotten so many mooncakes!

2 boxes only…and only two pieces left. Hehehehehehe!!!!! My friend, Pauline, said she wanted to get something else but it was sold out – dunno which one that was.

  14. oh, for sure it’s nice being remembered and everyone must remember STP too!! look, our Sibu Food Mayor is being fed with tons of nice food again!! that shows how much he is, not only remembered but, loved!! sweet~~ πŸ™‚

And I am indeed so grateful that there are so many sweet and thoughtful people around, so very blessed.

  15. yay, you can have a real mooncake feast! and it’s so lovely to have such thoughtful friends πŸ™‚

And they are so sweet to go through the trouble of going to buy and sending… I guess it’s because of my old age, so lazy – the mere thought of going through all that wears me out but no choice. Do unto others what you would like others do unto you. 😦

  16. Have you tried the Sibu branch one? Is it good? Next time i go back should buy and try.

I love RT pastry’s cake, very fresh and nice. When it just open, it is always packed with people, and people grabbing the bread, buns or pastries as like it is free!! No joke!

This year i also overdose by mooncake, havent start celebration, i already got so many moon cakes!!

The Sibu one, nothing much. I went and asked and the lady told me that if I wanted the butter cupcakes or the curry bun – the giant one with the very nice chicken curry inside, I would have to order a day earlier. I wouldn’t bother going so many times for something – can live without that.

Me too!!! Got some more mooncakes today! All the nice and kind people, kesian this old man… Hehehehehehe!!!! πŸ˜‰
