My KL friends went on an express boat ride upriver all the way to Kapit and back on a day trip and when they came back, they brought me these…
…and I asked them if they were from Ung Tong. That caught them by surprise – they did not expect that I would know of the place too. Well, if you may recall, I blogged about the branch here not too long ago but I did not mention it to them as I thought they would not be in the least interested in our small-time bakery, what with all those famous and classy ones in KL and elsewhere in the peninsula.
Well, what happened was, upon arrival in Kapit, they were walking around the town and were attracted by this very nice smell of bread and cakes baking in the oven…and it led them to the shop. I guess what they saw did not impress them much but they decided to just buy one of these butter cakes each to try – after all, they had come all the way so they might as well. As they were walking away, they took them out to eat and it was love at first bite. They were so overwhelmed by the soft and nice texture and the strong rich fragrance of the butter that they went right back to the bakery to buy some more. It certainly was so very nice of them to remember me then…and they bought some for me as well, thanks so much!
And talking about famous and classy bakeries in KL, this came from one of them…
I remember that my friend, Mandy, bought some nice stuff from there for me when I was in transit on our way to New Zealand at the end of last year and this time around, one of my blog readers, who was home for a few days from KL, dropped by my house to pass me this lovely pistachio Swiss roll…
Gee!!! I never expected that! Isn’t she so sweet as to remember me and go through all that trouble to get me a little something when she came home? I really do appreciate your thoughtful gesture, Pauline, and a big thank you to you too…and it certainly was a pleasure to have had the opportunity of meeting you in person.
And look at what came in the mail the other day!
Mamakucing pm-ed me on Facebook to let me know that she would be sending me something and I could jolly well guess what it was as she had blogged about it this year and also last year…
– the mooncakes that were more affordable than the rest as they were on special offer even though they were all freshly made and at those prices, needless to say, they would all be snapped up in a jiffy.
I’ve got a box earlier from Annie-Q and I was happy that I would be having some to enjoy this year and at the same time, uphold the tradition when I was resigned to the fate that the festival would probably just go past and I would not be able to have any at all seeing that they were all so expensive…and getting even more so each year. Now, I have four more…
…and thanks a lot to you too, mamakucing, for the mooncakes…and for remembering me. Ok…ok..I!! know! I know! I suppose it would be virtually impossible not to remember when I was dropping hints all over the place, right? Muahahahahaha!!!!!
Well, jokes aside, it certainly is so nice to be remembered, don’t you think?
