The boys…

I was out for dinner a few nights ago with the boys – Xavier who is currently home on holiday from the UK and Lawrence, both ex-students of mine…and for someone who’s been so far away from home and deprived of anything decently Asian, where better place can there be to go to than here…

Payung

…and of course, I ordered a few of my favourite dishes such as their signature mushroom roll (RM8.00)…

I’ve shared photos of this many times so this time around, I thought I would let everyone see what it is like inside. No doubt it does not look all that mouthwatering but one bite of that and Xavier immediately conceded that it tasted really good.

And here’s a look at what the otak-otak (RM13.00) is like inside…

O2

– different from all the rest in any part of the country and in comparison, definitely a whole lot nicer – this much I would say with no reservations whatsoever and of course, we had that as well that night.

We also had the special Payung rojak (RM12.00)…

PR

– nice, as always, and so was the lamb masala (RM17.00)…

The belimbing prawns (RM16.00) were great but I was kind of disappointed that it was kind of dry unlike what I had on previous occasions – the spicy and sourish gravy would go so absolutely well with rice but there wasn’t any of that that night…

One of the bosses was not around till a while later and soon after he arrived, he came over to our table to ask how the food was. He said that the chefs were “afraid of me” and were worried that things might not be to my satisfaction and normally, whenever I dropped by, they would all leave the cooking to him. Hmmmm…I wonder what made they feel that way – I have always been very nice, haven’t I? But of course, I had to tell him that the belimbing prawns dish was void of any kind of sauce but it was perfectly all right as it still tasted great. See! I AM nice, right? Hehehehehehe!!!!

Then, we had these lovely desserts – their celebrated Mulu ice cream (RM10.00)…

MIC

…and the Khalua ice cream (RM10.00)…

KIC

…and their awesome banana cake with ice cream (RM8.00)…

BC with IC

…and wait a minute! It looked like they gave me an extra slice of the cake! Now, that’s rather nice, don’t you think?

The ambiance was great and I loved the songs/music that they were playing, not too loudly unlike at some places around here…the food and the service were good, of course and the company was delightful as well. All things considered, needless to say, we certainly had a great evening…
