Homeward bound…

By the time this post gets published, my friend, Philip, would be en route back to his home in the US…but the other day, before he left, we managed to drop by this place again so that he could enjoy their kampua noodles one more time before leaving town.

I had to forego the pleasure of enjoying that even though I found them to be really very nice the previous time we were there as I wanted to try her fried stuff to see if they were any good. I ordered her fried kway teow, Foochow style (RM3.00)…

…and the serving was really big – a lot more substantial than elsewhere.

I was impressed by the amount of ingredients used – all the meat, shrimps, fish balls, egg and the green vegetables…

At most other places here these days, for the same amount of money, you will get minute bits of meat that are hardly visible to the naked eye and they would even scrimp on the vegetables. The good places are still good, that much I would say…just that you can’t except to see much else other than the noodles swimming in the gravy/sauce. However, I did not think it tasted exceptional so the next time around, I would order something else (the people at the next table had fried mihun, dry and it looked good) or I would just go back to her very nice kampua noodles.

I would always have my kampua noodles, white so that I would be able to savour the fragrance of the oil used to fry shallots and perhaps, garlic as well without it being overpowered by the strong taste of dark soy sauce…and besides, if it is with dark soy sauce, I can jolly well cook my own at home – I have that in the house. Anyway, it so happened that that day, somebody pre-ordered some kampua noodles, black and so she got them ready and had them served at another table next to ours and before the guys came (from the shop next door) to eat, I quickly sneaked over to snap a photograph of it…

Gosh!!! Doesn’t that make you drool, Annie-Q? Muahahahahaha!!!!!

Well, if you think that was it, then I’m afraid you’re wrong. Philip loves the fruit cakes made by this home-based guy, Marcus, at Delta Estate here and everytime he comes back to Sibu, he would order a few to take home to the US. Now, isn’t that something? Our made-in-Sibu fruit cakes can rival any that he can find over in the states. In fact, he used to love those made by that renowned kek lapis place in Kuching but after I got him acquainted with those made by Marcus, there has been no turning back! And guess what? The day before he left, the thoughtful and generous man dropped by my place just to give me one of those that he had ordered…

Marcus'

Oh dear! I suppose this means that he will have less for himself this time around then?

Thank you so much, Philip, thanks for everything…and a special thank you also for dropping by my place to help Melissa tune her guitar and for the very user-friendly software for her to do that herself in future…and thank you especially for your delightful company – I certainly had a great time and I do hope the feeling’s mutual too. Have a safe and pleasant trip and I look forward to seeing you again, if not in December, then around this time next year. Cheers and God bless always – you, your missus and Michael as well!!!
