The more we get together…

…the happier we will be and indeed, such was the case when we had a small gathering of bloggers here…

LPK

…on the evening of our 7th day in KL.

I had this Devil’s Curry set…

LP - DC set

…which came with a bit of lor bak (fried meat roll), jiu hu char (fried cuttlefish – which was actually fried sengkuang/mangkuang, or turnip in English…and I did not get to see nor taste any cuttlefish at all in it) and rice.

My missus had this prawn curry set…

LP - AP set

…with paku kerabu (wild jungle fern “salad”) and the lor bak and rice as well. Mine was fine but my missus’ had a burnt smell/taste probably the result of the thick gravy sticking to the bottom of the cooking pot.

Melissa and a few others had the Penang’s signature dish, the char kway teow (fried flat rice noodles)…

LP - ckt

…which was pretty good but Isaac asked for extra spicy and it turned out to be a bit too hot for him to handle.

I think it was [SK] who had the nasi lemak

LP - nl

…but he did not say a thing about it so I guess it must have been all right…and someone had the curry mee

LP - cm

…and there was no feedback from him either.

I think Bananaz and Simple Person also had the char kway teow, I’m not too sure…but I know very well that smallkucing‘s mum had this plate of fried rice…

LP - sk

She said it tasted fine but goodness gracious me!!! Now that must be the worst-looking fried egg I had ever set eyes upon in my entire life. Either Penang’s fried egg is like that, which I do not know and perhaps somebody would care to enlighten everyone on this…or somebody needs to go back to cooking school!

smallkucing had this bowl of fish ball noodles…

LP - fbn

…and I had to help him with the fishballs as he did not seem to like those and I did try a bit of the noodles and the soup as he could not finish the big bowl all by himself and I would say it was really very good. I wouldn’t mind having that the next time I drop by the place, not at all.

We also ordered the lor bak to share…

LP - lb

…and also the otak-otak

LP - o-o1

…and this was the Penang nyonya-style ones with the egg custard…

LP - o-o2

It tasted ok but all I ate was the egg and not the fish. Perhaps somebody else ate whatever little fish there was…or perhaps, they were all blended and mixed together inside. It certainly was in no way the best that I have had.

My cousin from Kuching happened to be at that same place with her friends and she said that the Siamese lemak laksa was very nice…

LP - sll

This one would be available only of Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays…and upon hearing that, we just had to order a bowl to try. I would say it was nice – something like Penang assam laksa with santan (coconut milk) added but I wouldn’t say it was something I would be dying to have again.

For our dessert, Melissa had the black pulut (glutinous rice) with dried longan inside…

LP - bp

…while Isaac had what they called the Red Ruby…

LP - rr

…and I had their cendol

LP - c

I guess they were all o.k. – no complaints all round but there weren’t any ooooo’s and ahhhh’s either.

Don’t ask me how much each item costs as I really do not know – they flatly refused my money and completely ignored me when I tried to chip in a little to settle the bill. After all, I brought along my missus and daughter to the gathering as well…*face palm* Perhaps you can hop over the Isaac’s blog and check out his post – I think he has a photograph of a section of the menu and he did mention the prices of some of the things we ate…and if you haven’t seen it yet and are interested, this is the link to smallkucing‘s post on the gathering.

Melissa certainly looked happy in this photograph…

M & the guys

…and who wouldn’t be when you’re flanked by three handsome young men? Too bad two of them are already taken but one is still very much available. Ehem! Ehem! Wink! Wink! LOL!!!

Jokes aside, thank you so much for coming, Isaac, [SK], Simple Person, Bananaz, mamakucing & smallkucing…thank you all for the sumptuous dinner treat and the very lovely time that night and thanks also for all the gifts and especially to mama & papa & smallkucing, thanks so very very much for the BIG bag of goodies – this post is already rather long and has too many photos so I think I would just leave those till some other time.

Till we meet again someday soon, somewhere…all the best to one and all!

  1. me no likey Penang’s otak otak, berry mushy and tastes odd, and got some kind of grass in it one :/

and there’s coagulated pig blood in Penang’s curry mee which gave me the shock of my life when i first ordered it in Penang! me no likey innards as well! :/ i don’t see any in the curry mee here.. phew!

Not grass lah – Thai basil leaves…very the wangi one!!!! Pig’s blood very good – old Chinese people will tell you, must take once a month to detox and cleanse the system but long time I haven’t eaten that. Missus sama as you…geli, doesn’t like. I think they have cocokles in curry mee too…but not in the one here. 😦

  2. wah so nice of the bloggers… u should snap a picture of the receipt and tell them u wont be paying it. Hahaha

Receipt? Didn’t get to see it… They would not let me get near… 😦

    1. Must make early appointment with the Food Mayor one else sure lepas peluang

Next round, must give chance to new people laio lor…those I’ve not had the chance to meet. Hehehehehehe!!!!

  3. it was a really nice outing with all of you, to be able to meet the bloggers for the first time, was priceless.
lol, love the way you described in detail each of the dishes, and no, my extra spicy char kuey teow wasn’t too hot to handle.. it was just a tad too spicy. hahaha 😛 ..

thanks for linking to my post ya .. much appreciated. Now have a great Thursday you!

Same to you. Ya…had a great time. We’ll do this again sometime, won’t we?

  4. I realize, in one of the photos, my forehead is shining like a bulb.. sigh, guess it shows i’m aging..

That one, big towkay punya forehead…a symbol of prosperity.

  5. Someone should organize one trip to Sibu… all bloggers’ meet-up… how about that? I think that would be great fun!!

We had one in Sibu last year and it sure was a lot of fun. Come, come…come over again – get in touch with mamakucing, plan a trip together.

    1. Claire, I think a few bloggers like Mamarazzi, Yee Ling & Quay Po visited STP last year…

Yup! And Claire was here too…and we had great fun! Dunno when anybody’s coming this way again… I’m right here waiting…

      1. LOL…maybe Angeline will arrange for Taiping Bloggers to Sibu? 🙂

They dunno what they’re missing – only those who have been here know.. Everything’s so cheap and so nice. What for go to KL? Mostly expensive…and at best, mediocre only most of the time.

  6. What a nice dinner with great company. All the food and desserts look so appetizing. Ahem!!!…Ahem!!!…who is that lucky man that is still available. Hear that. Hands up and step forward please. It is more like a prize giving night than a blogger meet up. How blessed you are, Arthur.

I truly am so very blessed, praise the Lord. The lucky man? Dunno…see anybody responding to that and you will know he’s the one… Hehehehehe!!!!

    1. I think I can roughly figure out who is that lucky man.
Wink!!!…Wink!!!…Old people used to say boyfriend and girlfriend, husband and wife, in one way or another would look alike…and they both do, hehehe!!!…this is a worthy trip.

      Who? They do? Hehehehehehe!!!!

      1. Shhhhh!!!….not too loud. You know, I know, hehehe!!!…

        Wink! Wink! LOL!!! 😀

  7. This must have been the happiest-looking, merriest table of customers in that restaurant that day! 😀

It certainly was a fun gathering, so very nice. You can tell from all the smiling faces… 🙂

    1. We’ll see ok… Gonna be very excited to meet you at Sibu. I’m waiting for my company to send me to Kuching warehouse for assignment then I shall plan a trip to Sibu.

Sometimes, airfare from Kuching to Sibu more expensive than from KL – have to check airline websites to see… This is what we have to put up with all the time – being bullied and taken advantage of by the airlines, no choice.

      1. STP always say this :
AA ticket cheap! No need to wait for company to send lah. Later only busy with work, where got time to let STP bring you makan everywhere in Sibu. ;p

I said that??? >.< The first part maybe, about AA being cheap…but that will depend on the time of the year.

  8. I would probably enjoy your plate, SK’s one and also Mamarazzi plate. I like our Northern otak otak like this Penang Nyonya otak otak.

Our Payung Cafe’s the best! Come, come to Sibu and try…

  9. The more we get together, the happier we are, the more food we ate, and the fatter we got!! Haha (Kidding la! xD)
Melissa sure happy cause surrounded by handsome men! ^^

Ya, too bad all of them married…except one! LOL!!! 😀

  10. How come Mango wasn’t there?

    eugene

Dunno about Mango, didn’t ask. Perhaps she thought it was a bloggers’ thing. We met for tea a few days earlier though – looking very good, prettier than ever. Bananaz has been taking care of her well… 😉

    1. Eugene, howdy! Yalor STP read Mango’s mind. Bananaz taking good care of her? Where got! lol

She also taking good care of Bananaz. He also looking good, always smiling from ear to ear… 😉

  11. When together, it is a “Bang”. Full of food and photo shooting around. Hahah! Nice to meet up with other blogger friends.

It was indeed. First time meeting [SK], the others I’ve met before.

  12. Love the group pixz with all the smiles and its quite rare for Bananaz aka the nicknamed ‘Chairman Mao’ to smile haha.

Senang hati, ada isteri…always happy! Hehehehehehe!!!!

  13. it was certainly a nice gathering especially meeting up so many bloggers for the very first time.. but this post came so late (almost a month later) that i have almost forgotten about it, muahahaha!!

Like striptease…must keep in suspense…baru (s)exciting mah! If quickly-quickly show, not nice anymore lah… 😉

      1. yeah, i should have got that understood under this food blog!! haha.. food comes first before anything.. 😀

Not really food blog but more or less…and who would be interested in a bunch of old married men…except one? Muahahahaha!!!!

  14. but i have to ask.. since this is a blogger gathering, why must the food come first before you show and talk about the bloggers?? so mean lah, in the eyes of this Sibu Food Mayor, food comes before anything, tsk tsk tsk!!

Yalor…and most not there – I’m sure they would want to see the food more than photos of guys, all but one not available anymore…vacancy closed, no more chance. Potong steam if show the people first. Hehehehehehe!!!!

  15. nah, SK will not comment anything about the food lah, we are not food bloggers, also this gathering was meant to meet bloggers and not for food review, furthermore we have been to this place and eat the same thing a lot of times~~ that was why, we just ate to fill up our stomach, that’s it!! hehehe~~

I’ve been there before too…but yes, never mind the food or the place – the get-together the main objective…and I enjoyed it very much. Thanks to all for coming…

  16. hey, don’t eat too much lah, you are cutting down on snacks right?? the snacks were really meant to be that little so that you can have a little bit of everything, we call this DEGUSTATION, haha!! only little by little you will die for more, too much and excessive and you will get sick of them.. so i’d rather make you feel the former, muahahaha~~ 😀

This is like a bait! Give a little…so will be yearning for more. Pandai lah you! 😉

  17. it seems a bit odd on the cendol, tub tim krob is one of my favorites! Judging by the look of those dishes, no thank you, definitely i can find some better ones in Penang LOL 😛

I guess so…just like going for Sarawak laksa or Kuching kolo mee in Penang. Nice but nothing like the real stuff! Same thing!

  18. I like the Penang Lam Mee there… food used to be even better till they become halal…still good but I miss their non halal version… lol

wah, looks like a prize giving ceremony.. hehehe…

Oh? It’s halal now? Ok, will keep in mind the lam mee – I liked smallkucing’s fish ball noodles. Love anything in tasty refreshing clear soup.

  19. I missed the party! My damn foot! LOL! Will catch you another time my dear friend.

No worries! There’ll be other times, that’s for sure. Come over to Sibu when you’re better, always warmly welcomed.

  20. Such a nice gathering! The Char Kuey Teow and Siamese Laksa look good. Tub tim krob is one of my favorite Thai dessert. The prize giving ceremony looks so fun…hehehe….

Yes, it was nice to get everybody together – the smiles on the faces tell the whole story. Sure had a great time…and always nice to meet friends, never mind first time or again.

  21. Lol.. nice gathering la. Paiseh..u tarak mentioned isaac coming…me tarak brg him anything pulak..only knew bananaZ coming.

Thanks for your goodies too. Somebody went and licked all the cream off the biscuits and hide the biscuits under the chair.

Adoi!!! So jahat!!! The biscuits were nice too. I texted Isaac and Bananaz and Pete…but Pete could not make it.

  22. Smallkucing’s mum’s fried egg.. Do go to any local uni’s canteen and you’ll see lots of them. What happens is that the egg content is poured into pot of hot oil before being scooped up. Lazy way of frying egg lah..

Probably graduated from some uni canteen then… 😀

  23. What a nice gathering… I quite like their CKT there.

I ate a bit of my daughter’s. Ok. I would prefer the fish ball noodles…if it’s noodles that I want.

  24. If i can remember clearly, this will be your first “man blogger gathering”? Usually, your gathering always with group of ladies. hahahahhahah

Figure-hugging clothes??? Are you refering to the one at the back with red colour clothes? faint!!! You’re bad!

Hahahahaha!!!! You just know kah? I memang very bad one. ROTFL!!!!
(Btw, I’ve removed my remark already as some people with no sense of humour obviously found it offensive and posted a comment that somewhat expressed his/her displeasure. I wonder why people want to voice their views but would not use their real name and email address – speaks volumes and reflects badly on them, don’t you think?)

Ya, I guess so but there’s mamakucing, so not all male. Usually lots of ladies or a mixed group…but individual get-together with a blogger, both male and female got lah.

  25. well the foods amazing! i could see how tasty tehy all was just by your shots!
i like the dishes but most especially those desserts
I wish I could as well bond with you guys, too bad were miles apart

Everyone can fly. Air Asia flies cheap from Clark’s…and I know there are many budget airlines as well operating between the Philippines and KL. Come on over!

  26. Prize giving ceremony is a priceless moment..hehe

All the food looks pretty good but I still prefer the cendol at Nyonya.

Both so so… Wouldn’t say they’re all that good. Didn’t sweep me off my feet.

  27. wow! the food looks good! i had mediocre char koay teow at this place 2 years ago… have fun in kl! hello from hazy kuching!

Oh? Been back in Sibu for a long time now…and it’s terribly hazy here today especially after the horrible fire at the kampung here yesterday.

  28. Lovely gathering! The food looks quite common in my place here (because I stay so near to Penang), but I’m still tempted by your photos 🙂

Yup! You can get better there but it’s the company more than the food that counts. Great bunch of people. You should go down KL sometime and meet them all… 😉

  29. Everything looks delightful. And isn’t it nice hanging out with friends/loved ones? It makes the meal so much better with all the stories and laughter that accompany those occasions.

What’s in the cendol? It looks like some type of green bean, cooked bean and I’m not sure what else.

There’s the green jelly-like thing and red beans (boiled till soft and mushy but still whole) served in coconut milk with palm sugar added and lots of shaved ice. Cendol is a popular Malaysian dessert.
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cendol
Yes, we certainly had a great time that night. Real fun getting together with friends in person…and not online, for a change.

  30. I love looking at the pictures in this post. I love your sense of humour too.

All shots were nicely taken, especially the food pics. You are indeed a food mayor, second to none.

This was indeed a very fun and lovely gathering for all bloggers. I missed that. I told them, i wished to be there. I wanted to meet Arthur in person.

Ya…would love to meet you too – I think you were still in KL at the time. Too bad you were “far away” and it would not be convenient for you to come all the way. Thanks for all your kind words and compliments. 😉

  31. Very nice gathering and nice food too 🙂 Very cheeky, were you referring to that lady behind you in the tight T-shirt 😀

Hehehehe!!!! I refuse to comment further – anything I say may be taken as evidence against me! Muahahahahaha!!!! 😀

  32. What a lovely gathering! Love the smiles! I will do a little blog hopping today and visit your friends ‘virtually’ thanks for the heads-up!

It was great meeting virtual friends in person and yes, we had fun. Ya, feel free to hop over and say “hi”. Bet they’d love that. 🙂

  33. Ahh, always nice to meet up with blogger friends…I can see this time more male blogger friends than usual, huh. Normally you are surrounded by lovely ladies friends 🙂 Hey, why only bloggers can meet you? What about fans and followers of suituapui?? hehe

Can, can…anytime! Can come over to Sibu and meet here too. Wanna wait for me to go over again, maybe not so soon.

  34. Chill Daddy! Shotgun!! It’s time Melissa mingle around and get to know more bachelors 😛

Hehehehehe!!!! Too bad yours is way too young or we can negotiate… 😉
