Huai Bin loves this a lot, it seems…
…so much so that he even blogged about it! He said that he could not find it in KL and the surrounding areas – what he had, he got from Seremban. Well, taking his word for it, when I saw it at a local supermarket here, I grabbed a pack without a second thought. It wasn’t exactly cheap though – over RM6.00 for a pack of 4…so that worked out to over RM1.50 a packet. I will have to go back there and confirm though as in his post, Huai Bin said that he paid RM12.99 for his in Seremban. That much!!!??? Gee! That would make it as costly as those Korean or Japanese ones here then.
The packet’s pretty big, I must say, something like those Korean noodles so there should be enough for two. The noodles or what they call semi-dry ramen inside are not like our regular instant noodles as you can see here…
…but unlike the Korean ones, these made-in-Singapore are pretty instant and would soften very fast so you would not need to boil a bit longer.
There are three sachets inside – one, the seasoning, another the chili paste and the third one, the “special” garnishing. I boiled the noodles and added the first two and once cooked, I dished everything out into a bowl…
…and having placed the homemade fish balls, the pan-fried turkey SPAM slices and the hard-boiled egg, cut into halves, on top, I sprinkled the garnishing and served.
And now, the moment my truth! My verdict. I’m afraid it did not tickle my fancy, not at all. Maybe I should have added more water but it did say “semi-dry” on the packet…and to me, it came across like noodles tossed in chili sauce, lots of it and nothing much more than that, I’m afraid. Even the extra ingredients that I had did not save the day…and frankly, I would be much better off with my Bovril noodles…or our very own homegrown Mee Daddy – curry flavour, no less.

I seldom eat instant noodles with those prepared seasonings due to my girls will want to eat them too. I will buy those plain instant noodles and add my own ingredients like natural vegetarian seasoning (to replace salt and msg), liquid aminos from soy protein (to replace soy sauce) and olive oil.
Once in a while, hubby and I will indulge in instant noodles with seasonings for supper when our kids are sleeping. If the girls are not asleep, I will let them have a small portion.
Yup! Best not to go for all those instant noodles. It’s more for convenience than anything else…but I guess many would make it their staple diet as they’re too lazy to go through the hassle of cooking anything more than that. Should not give your girls a bit – kids love this stuff…all the junk food and what not…and maybe if they’ve never eaten it before, they will not like it and ask for more…
Oh so this is the noodles that looks so yummy with the perfect half runny eggs of yours!

Ya, I’m sure you would agree with me – kampua is lots nicer. This one is from Singapore, not Korea lah…. I tried the Korean ones once – can keep boiling, will not turn over-soft and soggy…nice, but sooooooo expensive. No, thank you. 😦
oooo, chili crab noodles! somehow that sounds almost singaporean! i’d be quite tempted to buy it if i saw it in kl, even though i don’t eat much packet noodles anymore =)
Good for you! Best to go without those. This one IS Singaporean, made in Singapore. Doesn’t make it a lesser sin though – they’re all the same…not healthy and must not take regularly.
It has been awhile since I last drool over packet noodles….you make it look good.
Presentation…and photography. That is why when I see all those nice stuff in food blogs, I really wonder if they’re as nice as they look…plus appearance can be deceptive. At times, what looks awful may taste really great.

Don’t bother – just stick to your usual. This is more expensive and I would not say it is nice.

It’s really good, but you have to measure out the water *exactly*. It should be like Indomie with just a little gravy, looks like a bit too much water in yours.
We saw this at Ta Kiong again for much cheaper – it was slightly over RM 10 but less than RM 11 if I’m not mistaken. Wanted to get some back coz it’s cheaper but too bulky. Haha!
Myojo also has another version called Spicy Prawn Noodle but it’s nowhere near as good. It was quite bad actually.
I’m sure your Bovril noodles taste better though, gotta eat them sometime.
It’s Myojo, made in Singapore – long ago, I used to love their abalone chicken noodles, very nice and cost more or less the same as Maggi.
Yes, it was at Ta Kiong. My daughter bought a cheaper Japan-made one – RM10 something. Dunno what flavour as it had Japanese writing all over but in the picture, it looked like beef. All the other Korean & Japanese ones are over RM10…around RM12.00, so expensive…and my daughter did not want to buy those. I am quite sure this is over RM6.00…or I would not have bought. Actually, even at over RM6.00, I would not have bought (and only 4 inside some more) but since you said it was so good…and this is not available in KL…I just had to grab a pack and try.
Too much water? I thought mine was too dry – I saw yours – it was swimming in the soup…and I thought to myself – maybe I did not add enough water so that is why it was not as nice. Well, chilli crab is like thickened chili sauce gravy with egg…so I guess if it tastes like chili sauce, that’s the way it really is…and it is not something I would fancy. As I always say, to each his own….
Oh man, looks great! I eat ramen once in a while when I am craving for some childhood comfort food and I am too lazy/busy to make something with “Ang Mo” ingredients LOL. I saw a blog post about these noodles in someone’s blog, and they said it was about RM12 for a pack of 4 as well! Holy hell, that better be one heck of some great tasting noodles!
Unfortunately, it wasn’t…or not to me at least. The Korean ones are selling at that price here…and there ARE many people who would buy and they would sing praises of those too – how it will not become soft and soggy even though you boil it for a long time (I wonder why and how). It’s true – I tried once…and it tasted pretty good too…but at over RM10 for a pack, no, thank you… With that money, I’d go for the fresh stuff and cook from scratch…and it will be sooooo much nicer!
I wonder why imported food cost so expensive.

As spicy as chili sauce… 😦 Snob appeal mah – bergaya, ada class mah…buying all the expensive imported stuff but this is from Singapore, should be cheaper.
Too bad it didn’t live up to expectation. But still, I didn’t have breakfast today (no appetite) and just looking at the fish balls, pan fried turkey spam and hard boiled eggs, I am starting to feel a little growl in my tummy 🙂

Well, it looks so yummy but sad to hear that it is not as good as what we see. At times looks can be deceiving. I guess the presentation makes it looks so delicious. Most of the time I would buy mee daddy chicken or curry flavour.
Stick to those! You can take my word for it – they’re nicer…and cheaper too!
I cooked marmite meesua (didn’t have bovril) the other day, and I must say I liked it a lot! Hehehe. Was especially fragrant tossed in fried shallot oil. Mmmm…….
I’ve tried Marmite…and even Vegemite – also nice…but a bit pale as they’re salty. Can’t add a lot…and have to cut down on or leave out the soy sauce too. With fried shallots and chopped spring onions and home made pounded fresh chili, oooo…so nice! No msg required! Gerrie cooked some once too, with Bovril, and Tracy loved it!
was just talking to Pollie abt yr crab noodles, went to pantry n show her i got the exact packet, i dont like the flavour too, also bought frm Spore. I cooked meesua bovril yr version for my two sis yesterday, they like it.
Of course!!! My Bovril mee sua’s the best! Soooo nice! LOL!!! Missus just cooked a packet of the crab noodles for breakfast this morning and she said: Eeeeee….not nice lah….bla…bla…bla! There! I’m not the only one who feels that way… 😉

I think its even cheaper in sg. Nissin noodles only cost around $2 here while these type should be around $3.
This is MYOJO but on the pack, it says manufactured by Nissin Foods, product of Singapore. Well, $3 = RM7.50. Will drop by and confirm price… I still think it’s RM6 something – I even told my daughter that since it’s not too expensive, not like the Japanese/Korean ones, I would like to try. Otherwise, forget it.

Arthur, I have not seen these in Ipoh too. From your photo, the mee looks good…and the egg looks good too….like those japanese hard boiled egg with runny yolk 🙂 I don’t mind having a plate of packet mee like yours..with so much extras 🙂
The mee was not to my liking…everything else was. Life’s like that – when it isn’t much to shout about, it is up to us to add some special stuff to make it a lot better… Nice philosophy, don’t you think? LOL!!!! 😉

I remember seeing it more than RM6. Even with offer price also is slightly more than RM10. My mom bought a pack to try. She said it doesn’t taste as spicy like what we see on the packet :-p

a wee bit disappointed to see instant noodle on this blog leh. I don’t mind repeats/variations/experimentals etc..but instant mee…..no lar cuz….

Of course!!! But kids/young people…they love instant noodles! My choice will always be Mee Daddy – made in Sibu…or the made-in-Kuching Lee Fah (seems that our cousins over there are going for the Sarawak laksa flavour, buang gian…as and when necessary). Must support own homegrown industries. LOL!!!

Mmmmm I still think Daddy mee (original) is far better than the other brands. Hehe. The only ‘expensive’ type of instant noodles I used to like was those Korean Shin Ramyun just because it’s super spicy! Nowadays I just make my own soup with any noodles I have on hand.

You are generous when eating instant noodles. You toss boiled eggs, SPAM and other garnish. As for me I just eat the noodles without any add-on. Save me a lot of money. (Coz I’m a cheapskate) 😉

Woooaaahhh… i just had my lunch.. and now i feel like going home to cook instant noodles for dinner… i’m always tempted to try those big packets instant noodles..and those local instant noodles when i’m travelling.. hahaha.. i got myself few packets from vietnam in march and i haven’t got the chance to try them yet. 😛
Vietnam? Never tried. Some Thai ones are pretty good…but not this one from Singapore. Don’t bother!
