Is any of you watching American Idol this year? It’s Season 12 already…but I am not actually following the competition, not in the true sense of the word. Usually, I would just catch some of the performances online and take note of who the better ones are. For one thing, I just cannot stand that Malaya Curry (who can never get up to give a standing ovation as she’s simply too top and bottom heavy) and worse, Nikki Minaj. Call me old or old-fashioned but I think the latter’s an absolutely weird character. Keith Urban’s good though – he gives very lengthy comments and goes through the trouble of telling the contestants all their strengths and their weaknesses like what a truly capable and good judge should.
Well, all the boys have been eliminated so it will definitely be a female American Idol this year. The last female to win was Jordin Sparks in 2007. There have been some bright moments here and there this year but I do not think any of them is really consistent except for Candice Glover perhaps.
I am never a fan of the song “I who have nothing” but she did it really well…
…and drew my attention from the rest of the pack.
Then, when she did one of my all-time favourites, Burt Bacharach and Hal David’s “Don’t make me over”
– one of Dionne Warwick’s classic, I was sold! “This is the one to win!” I told myself.
By the time she did her second number on the show that night, The Cure’s “Love song”…
…it was pretty obvious that she was way ahead of the rest and they would have a tough job if they would want to beat her to the coveted title.
Meanwhile, The Voice USA 2013 is starting to pick up and they do seem to have more good singers in the competition. One that impressed me a lot was Judith Hill…
I never liked that Christina Aguilera’s early hit but the way she sang it, I thought that was really very very good. Well, we’ll see how far she gets to go in the competition.
Well, it sure looks like it’s a year for the ladies!
