Just one more time…

My friend, Huai Bin, was saying that he would be leaving town in a day or two and asked if I would want to go out for dinner with him just one more time. Well, of course I would! I’ve always enjoyed his company, he being always so very cheerful and positively-inclined unlike some people who would moan and groan incessantly about work and everything under the sun so much so that it would leave a bad taste in the mouth.

After the not-that-satisfactory pork burger that I had but which he was pretty impressed with, I had to take him here

SG

…to let him try what I would think is really good and truly worth the calories.

Yes, another thing about Huai Bin is how every little thing seems to impress and delight him and he would go and capture everything from every angle on camera…

HB1

…and that makes one feel somewhat appreciated as it gives the impression that one has taken him to the right place – a place that he likes and finds pretty nice unlike those people who would complain and criticise everything left, right and centre upon arrival and spoil whatever mood there may be in the first place at that point in time. You would have to be careful though whenever you’re in his presence as you’ll never know when you’ll be caught on candid camera. Smile!!! LOL!!!

I remained faithful to my jumbo-sized glass of iced water while he had this mixed fruit yogurt (RM3.80)…

MFY

…which would normally cost RM6.50-7.50 as stated in the menu.

They were having some special promotions on their smoothies & yogurts and also some of the other drinks and amazingly, they had even lowered the prices of their burgers by RM2.00 each…

SG menu

I was getting worried a bit when the waitress confirmed that there had been a change in management since sometime last year…and I was keeping my fingers crossed in the hope that they had not changed the chef.

Huai Bin wanted one with an egg so I suggested the beef cheeseburger (RM12.90)…

SG beef cheeseburger 1

…instead of the double cheeseburger which would have two beef patties and two cheese slices but that would not have an egg (RM14.90, formerly RM16.90).

So did he like it? Well, one bite into it and he was rendered absolutely speechless – nom…nom…nom!!!

HB2

It was so very nice and juicy and he enjoyed it thoroughly to the extent of using a bit of the bread to wipe off the juices that had dripped onto the plate to eat it all up nice and clean…

SG beef cheeseburger 2

I had the fish and chips with apricot mayo (RM10.90)…

SG F&C

…and I thought that was very good too.

I ordered the Ceasar’s salad (RM7.90)…

SG CS

…just in case the burger was not filling enough for Huai Bin but it certainly looked like that was sufficiently substantial and between the two of us, we only managed to finish half of it.

For our after-dinner dessert, we adjourned to this regular haunt of mine for the mille crepes…

NH MC

– the rum and raisin (RM7.80) and the double chocolate (RM8.80)…and I had the Horlicks dinosaur (RM4.50) while Huai Bin had the Godzilla (RM5.50)…

NH - HD & HG

All too soon, it was time to call it a day…and time to say goodbye. Thank you so much, Huai Bin…

HB3

…for everything – it was absolutely great each and everytime and we’d do it again the next time you’re back in town, wouldn’t we? Take care, God bless always…

  1. Dinosaur and Godzilla LOL! The foods are cheaper than Penang, especially the mille crepe and the burgers! Calories oh calories…. πŸ˜›

Penang? Georgetown city mah! City people richer…and lots of tourists with lots of money too. Try hiking up the prices here and you will be forced to close shop in no time at all.

  2. Wow! Good food with good friend! What more can you ask for?

I have my eyes on the R&R crepe cake!

Yes, sure was happy to be blessed with great friends and to be able to enjoy great food. I like the R&R – chocolate is nice for choc lovers especially but a bit too sweet for me. They’re coming out with Tiramisu today…and no prize for guessing who will be first in line! LOL!!! πŸ˜€

  3. Burger, horlicks and mille crepes. Right now I crave all the food you wrote and where do I find them lah at this hour for my supper?

There’s Rambly, 7-Eleven or the all-night mamak stalls…but I’m afraid, for the crepes, you’ll have to wait till morning. Hehehehehe!!!!

  4. Food Contentment for those who go to Sibu.. they will come back fulfilled.. hahaha.. I will definitely go straight for those crepes!! Nice!

No plans to come over again soon… I am waiting!!! Come, get Aaron to fly over from JB and you from KL and you two can meet here, stay at my place and all that…. How does this sound to you? Great idea, eh? πŸ™‚

  5. wow i wonder if i go sibu find u what kind of comment you would give me. LOL

Praise must be given where it is due…and it is a wise and ancient thought that if there is nothing nice to say, then it is time to remain silent. Talk about other things – the food, the place, etc… Hehehehehehe!!!!

  6. Oh I never knew such beautiful places existed in my own home town. huhu… must explore it next time. πŸ™‚

You’ve been away too long… Not too sure if this one’s certified halal though but like most cafes, I don’t think there are any pork dishes served here.

  7. I should plan a trip to Sibu for one month and taste many many yummy yummy foods there also the nice nice place there, kakaka….

You should. Just let me know when you’re coming and I assure you you’ll be in good hands. πŸ˜‰

  8. I used the bread from the bun of the cheeseburger to soak up all the yummy juices that came out of the beef patty. πŸ˜€

It was truly awesome, a *juicy* and rare patty, and this is hands down the best burger I’ve eaten in Sibu (it can even hold itself in KL). Maple Leaf’s burger pales in comparison to this one, it’s always good to go with the Sibu food guru!

Thanks for a wonderful time buddy!

Yup, it’s always good to talk to you. I know what you’re talking about. Haha! People hang out to get away from work, not to talk about work. Being positive is always good, I like the photo wall of Secret Garden.

You’re a very nice person too, which is why I always like hanging out with you. Thanks again for taking me around and for dinner and desserts my good friend!

I’ll see you this upcoming elections when I’m back! πŸ˜€

You can bet I’ll be looking forward to that – just let me know when you’ll be landing and I’ll pick you up at the airport…and the feasting can begin right there and then. LOL!!! πŸ˜€

You’re most welcome and it is my pleasure as well as I had a great time really. Thanks for your kind words – old people are generally quite boring and I am old, that’s a fact! LOL!!! πŸ˜€

    1. Haha! No, you’re not boring, I find dinner with you very enjoyable! πŸ™‚

Yeah, I’m not sure when I’ll be coming back, when the election date is firmed up. I bet tickets will be horrendous at the time but I’ll still like to come back and vote.

      See ya then!

I’ll let you know as soon as I hear anything. Would love to see you again…

  9. the mille crepe looks good but the burger looks even better! Just read about this place from Huai Bin’s blog. Looks like both of you have been eating out together most of the time!

Yes, we certainly did this time around as he was home for some two-three weeks. I would encourage him to spend quality time with his family though…since he does not come home all that often…and he has his other friends as well but we would go out together whenever both of us could make it.

  10. Just for the record, I’ve to check on your blog everyday just to drool over the food. It’s become an addiction :(. But today’s post makes me want to jump on the plane to Sibu right now just for the burger and the mille crepe!! I’ll just make myself a cup of Nescafe. *sigh*

You’re addicted to me? Oops…I mean, my blog? Hehehehehehe!!!! πŸ˜‰ Good! Good! Just keep it that way. How long has it been since you last came back to Sibu? Come, come…hop on over! Will take you round to enjoy the best in town!

  11. Oh, that’s a very nice dinner you have with Huai Bin. All the glorious and appetizing food & desserts. Love the wooden sape (1st pix). Hope I got the name correct.

I loved it at first sight – great souvenir for friends from overseas. I don’t think it’s wood though – looked like stone to me.

  12. aww i like that burger.. looks so much nicer than the one from McD!! the other day i tried the new beef & egg burger from McD, to my horrendous disappointment, not nice at all.. but luckily it was the cheapest among all the sets lah…

    McD? No, thank you…

  13. There are ppl who complain and criticise about the place u brought them to?
I too dislike meeting ppl who keep on complain or boast about their life.
Food at Secret Garden looks not bad. Price is reasonable oso.
Double Chocolate mille crepe looks good! Wait a minute…Huai Bin has his name printed on his T-Shirt! (HB) hehehehe…. wat was the full sentence? :-p

“HB was at Boracay!” His name was too long to be printed in full so he settled for his initials instead.

You haven’t met people like that? There are some for whom nothing is good enough for them – complain left, right and centre about the place, the food and so on. Even when I treat them to some very nice things, they would have something to say and make comparisons to things they had elsewhere or what they have in the country they came from. Such people really piss me off.

Not nice, not nice lor – our old folks taught us the decency and good manners to keep not-very-nice things to ourselves, no need to spell it out loud…but I would want to add that sometimes, it is not what but how it is said. Not all comments have to be condescending or even to the extent of being contemptuous.

    1. Hello Melissa! πŸ™‚

It’s actually “HB ❀ Boracay" – a custom tee from Boracay. The ❀ and Boracay is there so the customization bit is your name. My name is too long to fit in the space so I went for my initials.

Yeah, I know what you mean buddy, I know people like that too – whining about the food and comparing etc etc. It's very tiring to go out with people like that.

Thank goodness we’re not like that, eh? πŸ˜‰ Oops…it’s ❀ – didn't check photo to have a look – just from memory…and I guess it isn't like what it used to be anymore. Hehehehehehe!!!!

  14. change of management ah? But food still good is okay la.

Burger really looks tasty But the salad…a bit expensive leh for the small portion

It looks small in the photo – big bowl…and we could not finish all, so full.

  15. So envious of the prices you enjoy over there!

Ya…for such gourmet burgers with own-made patties, they’re really inexpensive…and now they’ve discounted prices some more.

  16. no burger this round for you? HB’s burger looked very good, especially with the egg yolk still almost raw… imagining the yolk coating the patty…ahhhh….

wish we can enjoy such good food at such great prices here too… hehe

Ya, not expensive at all for gourmet burgers, eh? See my comments in Huai Bin’s post and you will see why I had fish… 😦

  17. Eeek, now if only this was found in PJ… the burger and fish & chips look promising (was the apricot mayo special?). Plus, the sight of that Horlicks Dinosaur has me weak at my knees at the moment. Wonder why we only see Milo dinosaur all the time? 😦

You have Burger Lab there – Huai Bin says it’s very good too… I loved the apricot mayo, very nice. Oh? No Horlicks there? I know Pappa Rich has Milo and the dinosaur is almost RM10.00 – so expensive!

    1. BurgerLab is good but some nights I just don’t wanna queue after a long day of work! Yeah, haven’t seen a Horlicks dinosaur yet. Nvrm, shall make my own πŸ˜€

Gosh! Queue? You will never catch me queuing for food – nothing is THAT good. Absolutely crazy, I would say. Ya…I hear they only have Milo at Pappa Rich.

  18. I am always on a look out for a good burger! The one Huai Bin had would be my choice too. Apricot mayo? That sounds lovely, is it good? I am eyeing the double chocolate mille crepe with its shiny coating πŸ™‚

Yes, the mayo was good. Everything was good… πŸ˜‰

  19. ahhh, with a chunky beef patty and a gloriously runny egg like that, i’d be in burger heaven too! and ooh, nice juicy-looking raisins in the mille crepe πŸ˜€

Rum-flavoured…probably pre-soaked in it. Very nice! Yup, the burger’s great too – the best we have in town, if you asked me.

  20. I bet he enjoyed the burger very much when he claimed is the best burger in Sibu, probably Malaysia.

Btw, McD had just launched something similar. McD Beef and Egg Burger. Not sure how it tastes since I don’t take beef but I am confidence nothing can beats this yummylicious burger.

He obviously did – got him so excited that there was something so very nice here. Well, if SK’s comment is something to go by, I don’t think the McD’s one is half as great… Might as well go for the very cheap roadside Rambly’s…

    1. Yeah, this is one juicy burger, Yee Ling! πŸ™‚

You should check it out next time you’re in Sibu.

Hey, why not go during election time? You can vote…and then go to Sibu. Haha!

Me and Arthur will be there at that time. I’ll be going back to vote.

Hah!!! A one-night trip again – done it once…can do it again! LOL!!! πŸ˜€

  21. I really like this burger since the day I saw this in HB’s blog. The juicy patty coupled with the cheese and egg looks really yummy. Dinosaur and Godzilla are two fantastic name for a glass of horlicks.

I’ve been praising it to the skies since the first time I stumbled upon this place…and obviously, Huai Bin agrees. Really very nice…

  22. The beef cheese burger looks so yummy!! (Though I don’t eat beef)

But if I were to eat it, I’d have eat the egg, beef and bun all separately, haha xD

So elegant, all in dainty tiny morsels, I guess? Hehehehehe!!!! They have chicken if you’re not into beef. My favourite is the spicy grilled chicken – thick slabs of grilled chicken in it – very very nice.

  23. I did not go to Secret Garden during my visit to Sibu end of 2013 because my 8 month old son and 2 daughters were too handful. I did go there when I was back in 2012 when my son was still in my tummy (more convenient that way, haha). If I manage to go back to Sibu end of this year, it will be on my ‘must eat’ list. Love the chocolate mille crepe too but I did not have to chance to savour it as often as I wished to.

Quite hard when travelling with children. They’ve just launched a new flavour today – tiramisu…will slot it into one of my posts – coming soon. Call me when you’re back here again – I can take you here, there and everywhere – not a problem at all.

  24. Secret Garden? This look good, i shall try this on my next trip back, noted down in my list. πŸ™‚

It is good…though I can’t compare with those in KL as I never had those there – but Huai Bin says this one is on par, just as good…and cheaper!

  25. Haha! Yeah, that’s how I first got to meet Arthur when I was a kid – coz he’s my mom’s classmate.

Always good to hang out with you buddy! Yeah, we do get along very well eh? πŸ™‚

Yes, we most certainly do. πŸ˜‰

  26. I never try mille crepes before. It looks so tempting to me. Burger and fish and chips too look good here.

Lots in KL and Penang…and Malacca. If you come to Sibu, I can take you here to try – just as nice…and much cheaper too.

  27. thats is how i like my bread and egg be
when the yolk is spreading at every bite haha
at first i thought that meal you had was chicken but then
    its fish haha

    Yup, abstaining from meat…
