It was raining cats and dogs yesterday morning but I had told Melissa the day before that I would take her here…
…the next day for brunch so we just made our way to the place nonetheless.
This is the 1st-in-Malaysia Korean franchise and according to their Facebook page, it is a highly successful Korean traditional-style fried chicken franchise with more than 2,000 outlets in Korea and it has now made its way into Malaysia…right here in Sibu.
This is the counter on the ground floor and you can opt to eat there or go upstairs.
I would say that the staff members were pleasantly nice and efficient and we did not have any problem at all conveying to them what we wanted.
We ordered the Chinese New Year crazy deal (RM18.80)…
– the one on the screen to the left and added RM1.00 more for two cups of iced lemon tea…
We found the drink nicer than those at those other franchise places where most of the time, they would just serve you one of the local brands that we can easily get in the supermarkets and shops in cans or tetra packs.
For the set, we got two pieces of their Peli Crunchy Original…
…which Melissa said was nicer than the ones at that other chicken franchise place…and she loved the accompanying yellow sauce to go with it…
She said that it tasted like the honey mustard salad dressing that she used to buy in Wellington.
Other than that, there were also five pieces of the spicy Yangnyeom Original…
…and these were really very very nice. We had something very spicy when we had our Korean dinner in Auckland, New Zealand but this was not spicy at all. I think the next time we drop by, I would definitely order the Hot Hot!
For one thing, we ordered everything in their takeaway boxes as we thought there was such a lot in the set and we probably would not be able to finish and were planning to take whatever that was left home. We were given this complimentary treat to try – the fragrant Korean rice…
It was nice with toasted sesame seeds and seaweed in it…but I’m no fan of sesame oil so I can’t say that I would want that again.
Somebody had this seaweed side dish and I managed to snap a photograph of it…
I guess it must be one of the side dishes but I did not get to try that so I cannot comment on it.
They also gave us these Korean canned drinks…
…on the house and I quite liked the melon one that I had.
Both Melissa and I enjoyed ourselves and one thing’s for sure, we certainly wouldn’t mind going back there again sometime. Anybody interested in tagging along?

For the uninitiated, this place is located at No. 2, Lorong Wong King Huo 3A, to the left of Medan Mall, directly opposite the very popular Hong Fu Restaurant.

ooo, interesting preparations for fried chicken! am crossing my fingers, toes and various unmentionables that chicken pelicana comes to KL sometime this year! (maybe you can hint to the manager here next time, heh) 😀
The owners – a brother & sister are NZ PR’s but they decided to come back and try their hand at this business venture. Actually they were contemplating on either KL or Kuching…but in the end, they decided to give Sibu a try – since they’re originally from here. Who knows, if they do well, they may spread their wings to Kuching or even KL?

I’ve never seen this place before in my life!
I’ve eaten at a Korean fried chicken franchise in KL though – says it was the first too, although the first or the first to use extra virgin olive oil to fry their chicken is ambiguous in their copy.
This looks *much* better! 😀

I think I’ve read about this fry-in-olive oil chicken somewhere, can’t remember now. Nothing has been heard sine – wonder how it’s doing. We can drop by this one sometime and you can give it a try and make comparisons. Don’t just take my word for it.

I like the look of the fried chicken, very crispy indeed. Had tried a few times in Malaysia these Korean fried chicken but I wasn’t too taken in by it as they were very oily and the artificial flavoring was too strong. I think yours look much better.
Both tasted great and no oil in the takeaway box – try doing that at that fried chicken chain – check the piece of waxed paper lining. I love the spicy one, very nice.
Am not really into Korean food though but the fried chicken really tempts me. Very nicely done, looks cripsy. Really want to give it a bite. Yummy!!….
I enjoyed the Korean barbecue dinner in NZ very much – loved everything except the kimchi. Hehehehehe!!!! But their spicy beef or chicken was very very spicy – this one isn’t really. Didn’t feel a thing. Will have to request for extra spicy the next time around.
Not a fastfood fan due to the calories… but at times I do not mind indulging in a piece of crispy fried chicken!
Luckily, we still do not have this chain in SIngapore yet… 😀
LOL!!! Watching your figure, eh? The spicy one is worth the calories. 😉 Not something that would get me jumping up and down with delight and lining up, craving for more, but I thought both were good and I would not mind going back there again.

From pleasure or pressure? Just a piece will be fine – everything in moderation…which makes me wonder about the crowds at those popular fast food joints.

oh, interesting!! korean franchise opening it’s first Malaysian branch in Sibu??!! hmmmm, they must have heard about the Food Mayor of Sibu so they decided to open it in Sibu first.. when are they coming to KL?? the chicken looks good~~
Search me. If they do well here, they may want to branch out…or if they don’t, they may get out of Sibu and try KL instead… Keep your fingers crossed.

I just had it once, the authentic stuff…in NZ and I really enjoyed it except for the kimchi. This isn’t too bad – anytime better than that chicken chain that I don’t bother going to.
I love Korean fried chicken, ate it when I visited Seoul last year and am still craving for it !! Hope they open an outlet in Kuching soon.

Ahhhhh!!!! So they DO have it in Seoul. Somebody’s commenting on Facebook that she went to Seoul and she did not see it there. I have not been going to KFC for quite some time. I wish I can have some good Fried Chicken like this too. I actually prefer fried chicken than burger and pizza.

Pelicana! They have been around in korea for a few years. I hope ppl appreciates them and hopefully it would expand and grow bigger.

Yum! Yum! I love fried chicken! From the photo it looks like the chicken pieces are crunchy on the outside. Hmmm…how come there isn’t a Pelicana in KL or PJ?
They decided to open up shop right here in Sibu. If it does well, maybe someone will start there?

Oh, the fried chicken looks so much nicer than the Kung Fu Chicken here. But I’m not a fan of fried chicken, prefer burger 🙂
Not me. I think I’d rather have fried chicken but not from that chicken place! Any others will do, roadside Malay makan stalls also nicer…
Wow! Looking good!! Ok, i am leaving to Korea tomorrow night, will check this out in Korea this time. I know korean fried chicken is very nice and very addictive. Last week, someone showed me some korean fried chicken she got it from Sri Hartamas, forgot the name, she said it is very nice, but i do agree the smell is superb!!!
Let me try the original one in Korea, then i go back to Sibu next month and try the Sibu one.

The chicken looks good! Hopefully someone will serve something similar here in KL. There was one fried chicken franchise that was Korean based but was too short lived.
I hope this will will be around for a while – not many places to go to here…so it’s a welcome change.
