New day…

It was a new day – our 5th (5Β½) in Auckland, New Zealand…and we had breakfast before leaving the house to explore more places in and around the city.

We had these lovely savoury pastries…


…and everybody would know by now that I would prefer these to anything sweet.

The pie was very nice…


…and I loved the roll too…


I do not quite remember enjoying the other one with the mashed potato topping so I guess it did not leave much of an impression. For one thing, I would like to think that my own mashed potatoes are nicer than others’. LOL!!!

We also had this what-they-call lasagne squares…


…which were all right as well – pretty good, I would say…


…and I would say the same about the lamingtons too…


…with the cream…


…or without…


…and those snot blocks as well. Eeeeee….what a name! Ewekkkkk!!!! LOL!!!

So, after that pleasant breakfast that morning, off we went…and do come back if you want to see what we had up our sleeves that day. See you!

  1. The lasagna square looks amazing, shall try to do this at home!! Can you describe it a little more? Obviously it has a meat sauce, bechamel sauce and pasta sheets. Is it wrapped in the pasta sheet then dredged with bread crumbs and fried? And luckily I just ordered a steak and kidney pie from the pub which the other half is going to bring back (when he finishes work), just got extra hungry looking at your pics!

    I’m afraid I haven’t the slightest idea…but I would say that personally, I prefer the real thing. You may want to try this:

      The link of the lasagna square recipe you gave is not for the same type of lasagna square that you had. As my family loves them so much, I thought I can make them myself but I have never found any recipe remotely close. There are some things in life we just have to buy.. hehehe.

      Yup, obviously it’s not the same – can see from the photo, none of that creamy part but I guess that’s one place to start…since I could not figure out all that go into it. It did not really turn me on though – the best is yet to come – at breakfast the next morning or the morning after that! Yum! Yum!

      Well, I guess sometimes it’s a lot easier to buy…and one would not end up making too much and everybody/somebody has to finish it all. That’s why I would just go and buy stuff, never mind if it is not as good…as long as it is good enough.

    2. Actually that’s pretty close, just need to add bechamel sauce and there we have it! A way to spice up my already awesome lasagna! Hehe

      Give it a try…and next time I go KL, you can make some for me… Hehehehehe!!!! πŸ™‚

  5. All that for brekky?? hmmmm … i can’t wait to see what’s for lunch πŸ™‚ Forgot to ask Shereen to sneak you into one of the golf clubs on the shore for their pies…

    These pies were anytime better than those I got from the convenience store…but I prefer shortcrust pastry like what we have here – so much nicer and RM3.00 each – slightly over NZ$1.00 only… Hehehehehe!!!!:

  11. interesting Lasagna squares… maybe I ll try and freeze mine, cut it up and deep fried it too!!

    and yes… pies are my favorite snacks… buttery and flaky with any savory fillings will work for me… πŸ™‚

    Should be nice. After all, even fried wantons taste good…
