Fly away…

We were blessed with beautiful sunny but cool weather throughout the duration of our one-week stay in Wellington, praise the Lord but as we were leaving on the 14th of December, I could see the dark clouds gathering…

Clouds

…over Wellington airport…

Wellington airport

The airport is rather small especially considering that this is the capital city of the country but it is very nice inside…

Mel @ Wellington airport

…and like everything and everywhere else around here , there is always something there to remind you that you are in Middle Earth…

Orc

I like this one – it looked like that mean-looking Gollum, originally known as Sméagol (or Trahald), was stretching out to grab hold of Melissa…

Mel & Orc

They seemed to be promoting their sunny summer Christmas here in New Zealand…

Sunny summer Christmas 1

…so they had these bean bags all over for people to sit while waiting for their flights…

Sunny summer Christmas 2

There are seats all over, of course and some saw it fitting to occupy more than one, it seemed…

Comfortable

We flew via their national airline to Auckland…

Air New Zealand

…where we spent the next 6 or 7 days in the country. I texted my friend to ask her if we should have lunch at the airport before take off but she replied, “Don’t you dare put anything in your mouth before you get here!” so we did not get to try any of the stuff that they had at the many food outlets at the airport.

Initially, I had wanted to include the welcoming lunch we had upon arrival there in this post but there was so much to eat and so many photos that I reckoned it would be better to have all that in a separate post. Do come back tomorrow to see what we had in store…waiting for us in Auckland, the City of Sails.

  1. so wat did shereen manage to put into your mouth…? hahaha… must be juicy… and voluptuous…

Thinking of the lobsters, are you? That came later… 😉

  2. Don’t you dare put anything in your mouth! haha, i like that statement.

Good morning!, Merry Christmas and a happy new year 2013 Arthur :D..

Hah!!! Another one! Christmas was yesterday, my friend…but I guess you had your hands full with little Martin. Welcome to fatherhood… Hehehehehehe!!!! Wishing the same to you, Janice and Martin. Cheers!

  3. Good morning, Arthur.. today is supposed to be Boxing day but not celebrated here… will look forward to seeing your Food pictures tomorrow… yes, the airport in SF is pretty small too, I was surprised, not grand and posh like our KLIA 🙂

This is the day when they have all the sales overseas…but not here, just another day. 😦 Ya…even Auckland’s wasn’t that nice. Not user friendly. I had to walk and walk upon arrival till I felt like my legs were coming off…no travelators…or one or two – didn’t make much of a difference! 😦

  4. Hah! Hah! Shereen warned you to reserve your tangki 🙂

Ya…and over the many days during our stay there, we ate and ate and ate. Good thing I did not explode!!!! 😉

  5. Wellington may be the capital city but not the most populous city in NZ, perhaps that’s why the airport is smaller than you have expected??

wow, nice Sméagol there hahaha!! but why you didn’t take a photo with him?? you were scared?? kekekeke~~ :p

I would expect it to be bigger than Sibu’s but it does not look like it. Much nicer inside though – carpeted departure area and all and nice looking eateries and shops. Hmmm…grew so fat, deleted all my photos…and if I had one taken with it, I would block the whole thing, I’m sure. 😦

  6. A bit late but Merry Christmas & Happy Holidays to You & Your Family! 🙂

Since I m late in wishing for Christmas, I ll wish you a Happy New Year early since I will be out of town.. 🙂

Cannot wait for yr next drooling post…. hehe…

Thanks. Well, that will be tomorrow then… Get your tissue ready…slurpssss!!! LOL!!!

  7. Wow! That is truly an amazing piece of ambient ad – the 3D Gollum with bubbles of water coming out while he’s going for a fish. Great photo op – nice one of Melissa!

Hope you had a Merry Christmas buddy! 🙂

Ya…it certainly was impressive…and HUGE! Christmas was ok, had a quiet one…still a bit tired from the trip so I’m taking it slow and easy atm.

  8. Nice airport with all the Christmas deco. That’s a good warning from Shereen. So have to kwai kwai listen to her. Your stomach must be playing drum by then. Aiksss!!!… the mean-looking Gollum.

Ya, certainly not pleasing to the eye. Hmmm….I would say it was very good “advice”. She cooked soooooooooo much!!! Come back tomorrow and see. 😉

  9. That doesn’t look like an airport to me. More like a relaxing eatery. Oh gosh..the Smegol looks so ugly…after all its him. ahhahahahhah

Ya…but fans of the Hobbit or LOTR would be excited to see that, I’m sure. 🙂

  10. Very nice place!

I fall in love with NZ already~ 😛

More to come! But knowing very nice people like Shereen and her family certainly made a world of difference. Been to Auckland twice before – certainly nothing like this trip. Had a ball of a time…so very nice!

  11. well i enjoyed reading your post about your stay
it feels like i have been there too

That was Wellington. The Auckland posts start tomorrow – don’t miss any! Had so much fun there, great places, great food, great company!!! Certainly was a trip to remember. 🙂

  12. Weather is like that in KL too ! 祝你聖誕快樂 !

Thank you, and a Merry Christmas to you too. Ya…heard news on the radio of flooding in parts of the peninsula. Pretty good here but drizzling today.

  13. heheh, i actually like that gollum replica. cool expression 😀 i’ve never been to new zealand before, so am looking forward to your auckland posts. definitely hope to go someday, maybe in the springtime 😀

It was late spring when we went, summer actually started on 21st December so it was somewhere in the middle – not cold, not hot and flowers still in full bloom. Very very nice time to visit. I shared an album of all the flowers on Facebook, not going to include that here – too many photos and things to blog about. Ya…it’s not the best looking of creatures and neither is ET, but it’s cute too! LOL!!! 😉

  14. Aren’t you glad that you did not have anything to eat in Wellington or else rugi cannot eat the fat burger in Ponsonby.. Lol! Love the Smeagol replica, look so real! Anyway, I’m so not looking forward to tomorrow’s and days after posts 😦 You are so naughty and did not let me vet your photos and knowing you, you would put my most unglamorous pictures.. Lol!

No worries…I am not sharing any of the photos with you in them. Likewise in my case. Omigawd!!!! I look soooooooo fat in all the photos in Auckland – all cannot let people see one. Looked perfectly all right in Wellington… 😦

    1. Where got? All that I’ve taken of you looked so nice and so slimming especially those of the close up:)) You are so photogenic.. muahahaha… Opps!

      Humph!!! Tsk! Tsk! LOL!!! 😀

  15. …and I am not reading from tomorrow onwards coz I don’t want to get upset at seeing all the food that Shereen cooked for you. My weak heart forbids such food excitement…

You sure you can tahan? Curiosity kills the cat, they say… Be forewarned!!! 😀

    1. I didn’t cook la, Yoong. Where got time? So many things to do, see and eat but so little time 😦

Never mind. She would not be able to stay away. Bet she’s dying to know all the things that we were up to. Hehehehehe!!!! 😉

  16. Whilst Shereen was happily slaving away in the kitchen, were you a darling and helped out by taking the dogs for walkies 😉

Her kids all very homely ones…not keen on going for walks…like me! Hehehehehehe!!!!!

      1. But he is a darling 🙂 He waters my plants every morning while I was still in bed and in the evenings too.He even went a step further and scoop my dogs poo-poo.. Hehehe

Of course, I am. Told you no need to go out, just stay at home, laze around and relax and chit-chat, enjoy one another’s company…and I can even cook for everybody, help you with your chores…but you would not hear of it. Could only help a bit when everyone was still asleep. Hehehehehe!!!!!

    1. I really cannot tahan you… Muahahahaha!!!!!!

But you love me just the way I am….right or not? Hehehehehe!!! 😉

  17. Is that a python or an anaconda occupy three seats too many? You know what my old folks will say ‘hey you’ve got no backbone kah acting just like a snake’…hehehe

    Shereen’s got it right – more like a whale… 😉

    1. Bananaz,
Nooooo… It’s a blardy rude beached whale with no consideration for others that may wish to rest their feet.No matter where in the world you are, you will always find inconsiderate people like this. What is worse is that Wellington airport the boarding lounges are pretty small and with flights going and coming all the time, there are not many seats.

Ya, not that many seats…unless you buy food and sit at the numerous eateries. I was rather surprised to see this – thought I would only see it in Asian countries like Malaysia…on the seats for the disabled, elderly or pregnant women some more! 😦

  18. Wow!! That Gollum look scary and huge and it look so real. I think my boys will thrilled to see that.
Can’t wait to see what Shereen cook for you all. Yum yum yum !!

Any plans to go to NZ? Surely you wouldn’t want to spend your holidays going to Korea all the time?

  19. The airport looks small….

It does look small outside, nothing much at the check in area…but if you go on to the departure area where all the shops and eateries are, it is really very very nice. Sibu’s new one is big but nothing much to shout about inside…
