Just one more post on Wellington, New Zealand…
…before we move on to Auckland. The aerial view from the aircraft just before we landed looked pretty impressive, don’t you think?
Well, if you remember, in an earlier post, I mentioned that we went for the Sunday service at this church – the Church of St Mary of the Angels…
It is very big and looks very beautiful not just on the outside but also inside…
Wellington is basically an old city, a very nice one at that, with attractive very well-preserved buildings like this one that is being used as a pub these days…
I hear this modern one is the highest in the city…
…but personally, I prefer those vintage ones with their colonial architecture.
They seem to have a lot of buses in Wellington including those that run on electricity…
They have two feeler-like extensions that are connected to electric wires above the roads.
I was attracted by this sculpture of a man and his dog in one of the lanes near the serviced apartment where I stayed…
…and this is an old-time typically-English telephone booth that we happened to come across while in the city…
…and here, you can see the father and the daughter clowning around…
On the day of the parade, everybody had to assemble at the old government building…
…near the Parliament building…
…and the war memorial…
I saw the pigeons in the trees…
…and this sign…
After the parade had moved on, I walked to the Wellington waterfront…
The view is captivating there, very picturesque indeed. These are probably carvings/sculptures of cactus…
…and as it was lunch hour on a very bright and sunny afternoon at the time, everyone opted to grab a bite to eat in the open…
…so they can enjoy the very nice sunny weather.
On the way back to the apartment, I saw this Salvation Army band playing some Christmas carols and songs…
I gave a small contribution, the least I could do in keeping with the spirit of the season of loving and giving.
The following day, all too soon we had to leave Wellington for Auckland…but stick around – there will be more, lots more posts coming up on my stay in the Land of the Long White Cloud.
