Something fishy…

We wanted to go for some yong tofu the other day but when we got to this place, to our disappointment, it was closed. It being the school holidays right now, they probably have gone off some place on a vacation so we had no choice but to go around town and much to our delight, we found a stall here selling more or less the same stuff (RM5.50)…

It certainly is much cheaper here than at that other place. The brinjal and bitter gourd stuffed with fish paste were very nice and they were very generous with the ladies’ fingers ones. There was also tang hoon (glass noodles) in it…

I thought it was quite good but I feel that the ones at the other place would be very much nicer – somehow the clear soup there tastes better.

I saw this at another stall that day…

Curly veg

…and could not resist taking a photograph of it. According to Annie-Q, this variety of greens is not available in K.L. though I would not know exactly how true that is. We call it khiew chai (curly vegetables) and it is only good for cooking soup. We will always have that for steamboats and there was a bit as well in that bowl of yong tofu that we had. If you fry it, it will shrink so badly that you will not have very much left to serve…and it will not look very presentable either.

A day later, Melissa and I were browsing at a gift shop in town and by George, she caught a fish!!!…

Melissa & Figaro

Wait a minute! A whale is a mammal and not a fish, right? Ah well!!! It is so soft and cuddly, nice to hold and hug and she loves it a lot. She calls it Figaro – after one of the songs in that operatic animated feature on a singing whale. I enjoyed watching that cartoon very much – you should click the link and check it out too. I think it has an underlying message of how hard it is for people to accept those that are different from them and unique in their own ways.

Well, never mind whether that is a fish or not, as long she loves it, it is worth getting for her. Wink! Wink!
