Still loving you…

I first blogged about this place in January 2009, the very nice Malay food stall by the roadside (the one in the middle, not the one by the side opposite the primary school) in front of the shops at Bandong here in Sibu.

It was smaller then and over the years, it has grown. There is a wider selection now – all the things that you can choose to buy for your lunch or dinner. They open early – around 10.30/11.00 a.m. and by 12.30 or 1.00 p.m., most of the things would be sold out. It is best to go when they open when everything is piping hot…and you get to pick what you want instead of having to make do with what is left over.

I used to stop by more often when my missus was still working and it was more convenient to stop by here and pick up a few things on my way home. For one thing, we like the food – most of the things are cooked the way we like them and now, four years later, I still love what they sell and I am still their very loyal customer.

Well, yesterday, I bought these…

From Bandong Malay food stall

– some fish curry…

…and assam (tamarind) prawns…

…and cempedak muda (young cempedak) masak lemak (cooked in santan/coconut milk)…

…and two lovely salted eggs from the stall…

Ok, to make it interesting, I will not tell you how much each of these cost and instead, I would let you all try and guess. Nope, there is no need to guess how much each individual dish cost but you may, if you want to – just let me know the total amount that I paid for all of them.

Ok, shoot!!!

I can’t remember…

I would say that I have a very good memory. I can remember many things that happened as far back as during my childhood days and I can even remember names of students that I taught when I first started out as a teacher in the late 70’s, not all of them perhaps but I certainly have surprised/shocked a few when I met them in town and I called out their names.

I’ve been trying hard to recall where I bought this sweater…

…but I just simply can’t put my thumb on it. I know it is shockingly red but for people like me, we do not have the choice of colour or fashion or style when we shop for clothes – as long as we can find the size that fits, we would grab it right away without any second thoughts.

I must say that I am not too tickled by the illustration (this is actually at the back) either…for I can jolly well imagine what will go through the heads of those people walking behind me, “Fat Albert!!!” (*chuckle…chuckle*) and by sheer coincidence, Albert is actually my middle name. Tsk! Tsk!

I can vaguely recall that I got it in KL and it was at some kind of warehouse or rummage sale at a makeshift store where one would see all kinds of clothes of all shades, shapes and sizes and a small table by the door with a cash register on it and somebody there to collect your payment as you leave. I’m not sure but probably it was at City Square…or at the somewhat deserted section – what do you call that place now that was very popular in the late 80’s – Yow Chuan Plaza, as we used to have meetings at the Crown Princess quite often at one time.

It is really big, maybe too big for me even but I love it as it is very comfortable. It even has this in front…

…so I can just tuck my hands inside when it gets a bit too cold to bear, no need to wear gloves or anything of the sort.

Well, it went with me to New Zealand once – in 2005, I think it was…and it looks like it is going to go there with me again in the very near future so I had to take it out of the closet, wash and dry it in the sun, ready for the forthcoming trip.

Now, just where did I buy it? Frankly, I can’t for the life of me remember…, not at all. Sigh!!!!!
