Out of my way…

I’ve stopped by this coffee shop along Lanang Road here in Sibu…

…a number of times before to grab a bite to eat but not for a very very long time now. It is out of my way so it is not very convenient to go all the way there. I think the last time was when my daughter was in national service at the camp in the vicinity and I had to go there to see her for some reason or other…and that was in 2007. There were other occasions when I would stop by here on my way to visit the printing firm round the corner, the one that I would get to print our school magazine every year right up till the year I retired. I would usually have the kueh chap which I quite liked even though they used kway teow (flat rice noodles) instead of those broad rice sheets.

Well, it so happened that the other morning, I was driving past the place to go to where I was going and I had not had breakfast. That was how I ended up here having a bowl of kampua noodles (RM2.50)…

Both were all right – not the best I have had but they were o.k. I did not dare take the kueh chap with the innards and all for fear of a gout attack since I would be going off to Kuching the following day for the weekend and I had no intention of ruining my trip.

It certainly seemed very popular though, this shop – lots of customers and I thought I could smell something with a lot of  ginger. I turned to look and noticed that the man at the next table was having a bowl of liver soup with his noodles. Oooo…it was red in colour. I think the lady must have added a lot of the traditional Foochow red wine and I bet that must have been absolutely heavenly…but sorry, no liver for me temporarily. Perhaps I will have that, should I be passing by that way again.
