This was formerly at another location not too far away, maybe 100 metres or so and it was also very popular then. The place would always be so very crowded with people, all there for their kampua noodles. Then, all of a sudden, it closed down and nobody knew what lay in store for all their kampua lovers.
It must have been a few months later at least when it resumed business at its present location. The new place is a whole lot nicer and it is air-conditioned if you choose to sit inside but the crowd came back and more often than not, one would need to sit at one of the tables along the pavement. One interesting thing is the fact that they brought along the old sign from their previous place…
…and they just put it up, untouched – exactly the way it used to be despite the fact that they now have a much nicer place and to date, the sign has remained the same – no new coat of paint, no touch-ups, nothing. Perhaps it has got something to do with good luck or feng shui, I wouldn’t know.
Well, I had not been there for quite a while – not since Yee Ling and Mandy were in town in April, I think it was…and I took them there for what I feel is the best in town…
Like I said before, I cannot go back to the same places to eat the same things as I cannot be blogging about the same things over and over again and consequently, I would not have anything to post in my blog if I were to do that. But the other day, I had this craving that simply could not be ignored so there I was back at the cafe again to enjoy the much-loved noodles for lunch.
It is RM2.50 a bowl now compared to RM2.00 at the start and I think it went up to RM2.20 once and the crowd thinned…but that was only temporary. I think when they got over the shock and were dying for the kampua noodles again, they all came back eventually.
It was served in a bowl and the noodles were heaped up like that so you can imagine how much there was in that one serving…and they were very generous with the minced meat and the thick slices of braised pork as well. But of course, what matters most would be the taste – and it still tastes as good as ever!
I also ordered a bowl of pian sip (minced meat dumplings), also RM2.50 a bowl…
– the dry version and it was pretty good too. Long ago, at the old place, I did order this once but it came out like the soup version, minus the soup or with just a bit of it and I would say that it was bland, quite tasteless and most disappointing. That was why I had avoided ordering the dry version since. Now that they can do it pretty well, I guess I would be ordering that again should I happen to drop by anytime in future. By the way, I wonder if you’ve noticed that they do not use those miserable plastic or melamine plates and bowls that one can find all over the place? That is certainly another point in their favour, don’t you think?
They also sell beef noodles andΒ laksaΒ both at RM5.00 a bowl but I am not really a fan of theirs and that is why I do not bother to order them at all ever.
For the two bowls of noodles and the pian sip plus two glasses of kopi-o-peng (RM1.50 each), the total came up to only RM10.50. Yes, we can go out for breakfast or lunch here and spend less than RM10.00 for two persons, believe it or not and that certainly was a heavy lunch, I must say – just the noodles and the pian sip which I shared with my missus but of course, I had the lion’s share and I was so full for the rest of the day that I could hardly have dinner that evening.

Oats, cheap meh? And if you boil and add milk and sugar and eggs… Oooo…so rich…and definitely not cheap. Slurpsss!!! Haven’t had that for a long long time!
i buy cheap oats mah, only add hot water and not milk.. then i add in some sunflower seeds, raisins and almonds to make it taste nicer lah.. hehehehe!! sometimes health does comes with a price~~ :p

The noodles and the dumplings look so yum, yum! What is the difference between kampua noodles and kolo mee? Sorry, I got a bit confused, they look similar π I think the signboard brought them luck, so if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it π
It’s hard to explain. You come to Sibu and eat the kampua…and then you go to Kuching and eat their kolo mee. They’re just…different! They’re about as different as wanton mee and Hakka mee…and Sabah has the konlou mee which is also not the same.
Kampua noodles are really delicious looking. I don’t mind having the noodle alone, and let you help me with the pork meat. I hope i can taste Kampua soon.
Reminds me of a friend who was allergic to protein. We would go out to eat and I would have to finish all the meat for him, so nice! Hehehehehehe!!!! π
At first I thought where is the kopitiam…now I know the place,and actually I passed by there almost everyday,but I never noticed this kopitiam at all.

Oh yes! The plates they use is very important too. It adds a touch of ‘class’ compared to other melamine plates places…

So yummy pian sip. For pian sip I prefer the dry version. The skin looks transparent & smooth. The kampua noodles looks equally nice but I like our kolo mee more.
This one, Sibu people – some do not like. They said like kolo mee. Maybe a bit, quite true…and that is why I like it best!!! I find it nicer than the authentic original kampua…

Yup, something like that…but this is is a whole lot nicer than the Hakka noodles I had at Seremban – that one not half as nice, I tell you, not worth the calories!

Pian sip is actually dumpling, right? With generous amount of fried shallot (hope they don’t use the readily packed one!), I can finish the whole bowl by myself~~ Burp, kampua noodles, er, I’m too full after pian sip. Maybe next trip π

Eyewwwww!!!! I will never have kampua or pin sip with dark soy sauce – will drown out the fragrance. You will end up tasting…the kicap only. Blerk! π¦

I think that they kept the old sign for nostalgic purposes. Their customers, once they see the sign, will know that that is the old restaurant they love.

Muahahahahaha!!! So kesian. No, this is the same place where I went with you and CK Superman last time – they were at another place before they moved here. Now, got parking fee already…so cannot sit in the parking lots anymore. Remember when we went, it was so crowded we had to sit in the parking lot. I think it was still RM2.00 at that time.

No, no, no…the one we went to IS the NEW place – it’s still there!!! They were elsewhere before – a few doors away from WeCare Bakery where Quay Po bought the nice Japanese baked cotton cheese cake…
I miss pian sip. However I do not think I can eat out so often end of the year when I am in Sibu due to having to prepare food for baby every morning. Cooking porridge, vegetables and fish/ meat in slow cooker require hours. Babies eat the least amount of food but requires the most time to prepare.
You’ll have to get people to tapao for you then. I will be away around 7/8 till a few days before Christmas…but if I’m around when you’re in town, I can do it for you.
It is OK. My dad will do that if necessary. I stay at the opposite side of the town and that is out of the way where you go every day. I like going out for meals actually. If my baby can settle down nicely, I can go out cari makan more often π

Sorry, not for you, this one…but if you come, I know of a place – very nice too, you can eat one. The mee jawa there also best lah!!! The special, they give you half a dozen prawn fritters, yum…!!!!
