I have this problem whereby in the event that I come across something really very nice, the next time I drop by the place, I would not be able to eat that same thing or else I would not have anything to blog about as I can’t jolly well be featuring it over and over again. Thus, I would have to opt for something else which may not be quite as satisfying.
Take this cafe, for instance – one of my favourites in town…
…and one that I have been to lots of times and I have brought so many friends there as well…and the food is so good that many would make a beeline back to the place to enjoy what they have on the menu…like Huai Bin, for one. Well, I was there not too long ago with my friend from KL and his missus and a few days later, my friend, Jimmy, from Bintulu, dropped by and since he had never been there before, I just had to bring him there.
I tried the Indian red curry chicken before and did not think it was that great – I reckoned it was just chicken cooked in tomato sauce with lots of chili thrown in…so this time around, I decided to try the beef…
I thought it was a little bit nicer than the chicken, not much…but given a choice between the two, I would choose this one.
We had the green curry chicken…
…before as well and it is one of the nicer options available there.
Of course, anyone who comes to dine at this place MUST order their otak-otak (fish paste)…
…which is like no other anywhere else in the country and I can confidently say that it is simply THE best. All the other versions will have to take a back seat, that’s for sure!
We also had their special mushroom roll…
…and their very nice durian ice cream for dessert.
I also ordered their banana split…
…which is new on their menu to give it a try and it includes three scoops of ice cream of different flavours on a bed of bananas sliced lengthwise…and a variety of fruits in place of the usual sprinkling of chocolate rice elsewhere. I thought it was all right – nothing to shout about and not something I would be dying to have again…and then the boss treated us to this for us to sample – their Mulu ice cream…
I guess many of you would have heard of Mount Mulu and the world-renowned Mulu Caves. Well, one look at the dessert would give you a fair idea why it has been thus named. It does look like a plateau or a section of a mountain cliff, don’t you think? So what is it actually? Well, you have layers of chocolate cake and chocolate ice cream topped with rich cream plus a generous amount of crusty and crunchy toasted muesli – oats, raisins and all – a winning combination, I must say. Simply out of this world and rest assured that I certainly would order that should I happen to drop by the place again.
All in all, the bill came up to RM77.00…but it looks like you will have to come back again, Jimmy, as you have not had their belimbing prawns yet. Come, come to Sibu again…and let’s do it again…one more time!
