Nice change…

I dropped by the Aroma Bakery here the other day to get their very nice chicken pies and the lady told me that those with the black toasted sesame seeds…

…were the curry ones. They did not have those before and at first, I thought of not buying, but she said that they were very nice and there was cheese inside as well. Cheese? With curry? Hmmmm…pretty strange combination, don’t you think?

In the end, I decided to go ahead and give it a try. Inside, there were a lot of meat and potatoes…

The curry flavour was very light and putting all that together, it did indeed taste very very nice and I loved it a lot! I would say it was nicer than their plain chicken pies which everyone who had tried fell in love with at first bite. They’re RM3.00 each now though – for either plain or curry chicken. The pies used to cost RM2.60 – 2.80 each…but considering that they do taste really great, I would say it is value for money and worth buying once in a while.

Moving on from the pies, I received an sms on my handphone one fine day from my satellite tv provider asking me to drop by their office to collect this voucher…

Usually I would not bother about such promotional stuff that I get frequently on my handphone. Furthermore, it said in the text message that the offer would expire in a few days so I decided to just ignore it.

Around the middle of the year, one petrol station was giving out a lot of these vouchers. I think for every RM20 of petrol that you pumped, you would be entitled to get 1, so for every time I went to fill up at a station, I would get at least 2 or 3. I thought I could collect all of them and then give them to my daughter to use in Sungai Petani to go and eat and enjoy with her friends. Β Unfortunately, when I read the fine print, it was in conjunction with the Gawai Dayak Festival and would be valid for use only in Sarawak and the vouchers were due to expire in a week or two or so. Eventually, it left me no choice but to throw them all away. Anyway, they were discount vouchers that would entitle you to buy certain set meals at reduced prices and they were not really that cheap, actually – maybe just a few ringgit less, that was all.

Now, in this particular case, it was different. It so happened that I was passing by the office two days before the expiry date so I just popped in to see what it was all about.. The sweet and friendly girl at the counter asked to see the sms. Good grief! I have this habit of deleting every message that I have read but somehow, this one was still in my inbox and I could show it to her. So she promptly did what she had to do and gave me the voucher. The best part was the voucher was given in conjunction with the current “sports season” aka the London Olympics and I don’t even subscribe to any sports channel! Hehehehehehe!!!

When I got home, I looked at the terms and conditions at the back…

Hey! It is valid till 31st July next year. Now, that’s more like it! Frankly, I do think that if they want to give people such things, it should stay valid for at least 3 months…or 6 perhaps. This certainly was a nice change from the ones that I got from the petrol station, I must say.

And talking about vouchers, I am expecting one in the mail soon but that will have to wait till another post. Has any of you been getting any lately…like me? Wink! Wink!

I bought a few of those chicken pies for my friend, Mandy, in KL and she ate one of the curry ones for dinner…and she loved it so much that she could not resist having another one for supper! That, I must say, certainly speaks volumes and was indeed a compliment, coming from someone who insists she’s not really a “foodie” and would eat everything and anything and most of the time, nothing’s good or bad to her as long as it is edible.

  1. curry chicken pie – that reminds me of Yvonne..
cheesy curry – that reminds of me Anay TM..

Wah…everything reminds you of somebody kah? So what will remind you of me? πŸ˜‰

  2. well, curry chicken pie.. that would sounds nice with chunky chicken breast meat and loads of potatoes, but i don’t see they have egg wedge inside right?? anyway, i wonder how the cheese taste like with curry, but you mentioned it’s very very very nice, and that Mandie cannot resist to have another one.. i would believe it’s very tasty..

Nope, no egg wedge…not curry puff mah! Don’t get them mixed up. It is really good. Now that I’m back in town, I will have to drop by again and get some more… Yummmmm!!!!!

  3. .. and oh, that voucher that expires soon reminds me of that “free double zinger burger with any purchase” promo KFC had during the beginning of the year.. it’s invalidated after 4 hours from the time of issue, wakakakaka~~ πŸ˜€

Tsk! Tsk! But zinger’s very small…one mouthful already gone. Still, if like that, better don’t give lah! Bluff people one…just want to boost up sales. 😦

  4. That chicken curry pie cetainly looks good. I have a weakness for anything curry and I used to eat lots of chicken curry puffs….until I myself puffed up. So had to take a break and go slow for the sake of my weight. Anyhow, if I come across any chicken curry pie, puffs or whatever, I’m going for it!

Heaps better than any that I have tried before… Love it! But RM3.00 each is not cheap though… 😦

  5. I’m already drooling on the curry chicken pie. I like anything curry..hehe
Vouchers are everywhere nowadays, it’s a way of promoting their company. Deals sites in the internet is rising like mushrooms after rain. Better be careful and read the fine prints prior of redemption or purchase πŸ™‚

Ya, thanks for the advice. Usually I don’t bother…

  6. wow .. RM20 petrol and you get a RM10 voucher..
    very good deal…
hey how come I don’t get the pie? I also like to eat chicken pie..
    wink wink…

Where got? This voucher is a different one. The RM20 petrol one…you get to buy a meal at those fast food joints, some RM1 or RM2 discount only.

These pies cannot keep lah…and luckily I did not buy a lot to give to friends – the fridge in my hotel room was not working – wait for my post on that. Sure not good already by the next day. Next trip perhaps but I can only give to you if you can pick me up at KLIA upon arrival… Wink! Wink! LOL!!!

  7. Wow wow cheesy curry chicken pie?? That sounds like the perfect pie recipe! Can mail some over? Hehe

Hah!!! I’m sure you have a lot of lovely pies there…but I’m sure they wouldn’t be coming for less than AUD1.00. LOL!!! I’ve bought some, frozen…and imported from your side. Very nice but expensive!

  8. OMG! The cheese curry chicken pie looks so sinful!
BTW, the bloggers’ gathering wasn’t on last weekend…. I was at Penang last weekend when you came KL remember?

yes, last Saturday night… Posts on the trip start tomorrow – you may get some sneak peeks on Facebook. πŸ˜‰

  9. I get a lot of Parkson vouchers, H&L vouchers, and KFC vouchers but i never bothered to use them. If they give me vouchers for electronic devices, now that wud be waaaay better. Btw the pie looks really sedap! nasib sudah makan

Wow!!! You sure shop a lot… I used to get those Parkson ones, buy up to RM50 and above and they give you one… Not anymore, haven’t been to Parkson for ages.

  10. Nahh….did not get anything lately. I think got to wait till my birthday lor…..
    I like pies!! hehe…
Such a nice way to promote petrol in Sarawak….
So, you are going for KFC anytime soon lor?

I think it is more to promote the fast food joints – petrol, everyone has to buy sooner or later…but with the vouchers, that will lure people to go and get the meals at discounted prices. I gave to my missus – I think she used it already last weekend when I was out of town, no need to cook.

  11. I love me a good chicken curry pie. I’m quite fussy about pastries. This one looks pretty well made tho. Can’t really tell just by looking πŸ˜‰
I’ve had some pretty strange combination foods before. This is pretty tame by comparison. Actually, it sounds quite appetizing!

It is…just that I’ve never heard of curry and cheese but then again, we have yogurt and curry in Indian cuisine – more or less the same, I guess…and there’s cheese in paneer too.

  12. So coincidence. I’m going to post about pie tomorrow (scheduled post). RM3 for a pie is quite pricey….but i love pies too…won’t mind to spend that money.

Cheap compared to the imported ones..and big – the size of a saucer but what’s most important is that it is very nice. There are others at other bakeries – smaller, not necessarily cheaper and not nice. Looking forward to your pies tomorrow…

  13. I don’t find the combination strange because we combine curry and cheese all the time. I seldom eat store bought pie, I make my own:D Next time you come to KL, I make some chicken pies for you instead of bringing you desserts.

Yes!!!! I would love that! I love savoury stuff more than the sweet things – sweet ones, once in awhile…savoury pies and the like, anytime! I make my own too…but lazy lah…and once I make, I make so many…eat…eat…eat… Just buy one to enjoy, better. Oh? Cheese in your curry? Must try that sometime.

  14. hmmmm..i am not really a pie person…if i got to choose, i won’t choose pie, i don’t know why. ahahha. Curry and cheese? Good combination?

But you like this one leh? And your mum ate so many till sore throat. LOL!!! This curry cheese one is very much nicer than the nice plain chicken ones.

  15. Dropping by and i see some delicious pie πŸ™‚ Hm vouchers, I echo your sentiments on the due date of those vouchers. They really should put longer due dates if they’re really sincere on giving it actually.

You don’t need these vouchers, I’m sure… Always invited to all the grand events and getting to enjoy all the delicious food. Some people have all the luck in the world… πŸ˜‰

  16. Curry chicken pie? That’s very Malaysian…haha. But with cheese? That’s very western! I bet the combination is awesome. You said it, I believe in your taste buds πŸ˜€ I need to try one day. Maybe try to make one day. Just too long to wait till I get home to try.

100 metres from your house in Sibu, you can just walk there.
