A happy day…

It’s Father’s Day today…but don’t wish me a Happy Father’s Day as my daughter left town yesterday to go back to finish off the final leg of her studies in Sungai Petani in Kedah.

But I must say that I had had a great three weeks with her while she was home for the holidays and two days ago, we had a small celebration in advance. She and her mum bought me this Father’s Day cake…

– the white chocolate cheese or something like that…

Father's Day cake 2

…from this bakery and I must say it was pretty good.

They also bought me some XXXXL t-shirts and Melissa went through all the trouble of making me this beautiful card…

…and that, of course, means a whole lot more than any of those ridiculously-expensive commercially-produced ones as it comes straight from the heart…

Father's Day card 2

– those words that mean so much…

…to one who has, all these years, tried to be the kind of father anyone can ever hope to have.

Thanks so much, darling, and to the mum too. Even though it was not on the actual date, it certainly was a happy day…and God willing, we will be celebrating more of such happy days in the years to come.

Coincidentally, Huai Bin dropped by my house that same afternoon to pass me this Indonesian layer cake…

Indonesian layer cake

That must be one of those that Mery is always praising to the skies…

Kek lapis Indonesia

Well, Huai Bin was in Jakarta a few days before he came back to Sibu and it certainly was so sweet and thoughtful of him to think of me while he was out having all that fun there. Thanks, buddy. That is indeed very much appreciated.

And going back to the day in question, here’s hoping that all fathers out there are having a great time…and here’s wishing all of them a Happy Father’s Day. Cheers!!!

  1. How was the kek lapis?

Very nice! I like the fact that the kayu manis is not overpowering – very mild, just right. Texture also good, not dry. Not like some that I’ve tasted – I did not quite like the ones in Kuching, Main Bazaar. Will never buy those ever again.

  2. The card is very nice…
Ur daughter is so creative..some more limited edition…
I bet u bring ur new phone around …
    Have a great Sunday….

No, it’s in my display cabinet – to treasure and cherish…right next to William & Kate – my friend, Yoong sent me a commemorative coin all the way from Perth, so they’re both there, the card and the coin side by side…

  3. Happy Father’s Day to you… Enjoy the day!

Same to you… But you’re in Indonesia, aren’t you?

  4. Hi, Ok just wish you Happy day!
The handmade card from your daughter look so cute and very creative.
    The cake look delicious too.

    Have a nice weekend.

Yes, I’m so happy…even though we had to do it two days in advance. Been so long now since I last celebrated the day with her…

  5. Layer cake. Yummy.

    The card very lovely πŸ™‚

Hey! That rhymes! LOL!!! Yup! I heated it up a bit in the microwave – 30 seconds…very nice, extra fragrant. Ya, love the card so much… πŸ˜‰

  6. I cannot refrain myself from wishing you a very happy father’s day πŸ™‚ you’ve been a great dad and there is no doubt. I saw you very often with your daughter in church during my earlier Sibu days. πŸ™‚

Thanks. You did? Hmmm…now I’m wondering who you are. Let me check on Facebook. Oh? We have 9 mutual friends, Joan…and you’re very pretty. Hehehehehe!!!!! πŸ˜‰

  7. I also can’t resist.. gonna wish you Happy Father’s Day too… just rmbr the good memories you had with your daughter. And plan for her next trip back!

Thanks. Yes, all the sweet memories to cherish – we’ve had lots of good times together and I’m thankful for that. I wonder how many parents, fathers especially, devote much of their time to their children…especially the traditional ones. All upbringing is left to the mums.

  8. No matter how, I have to wish you Happy Father’s Day cos you are the greatest dad to Melissa and loving hubby to your beloved wife. May God Bless you abundantly. Have a great weekend, Arthur. The indonesian layer cake looks great.

Thank you, thank you. God’s blessings, I certainly need a lot of that. A Happy Father’s Day to your hubby too – son not at home, I guess…can have a belated celebration when he comes back. Ya…the cake is very nice.

    1. Both kids not at home. And yes, they remember today is Father’s Day and make an effort to send their father text messages and follow by call to wish him Happy Father’s Day. It is the thoughts that counts.

So sweet… Hmmm…good husband material like that! Muahahahahahaha!!!!! πŸ˜€

  9. from indonesia, unique! Ok, shall not wish you a happy father’s day then, but my, the card is definitely thoughtful and looks great!! Such creativity

Yes, I second all that. You called your dad yet? Don’t forget to do that to wish him Happy Father’s Day too…and this time, next year, I’ll be wishing you as well. Wink! Wink! πŸ˜‰

  10. Aww … Sg Petani isn’t that far away. At least she’s not in some foreign country. Have a good weekend then, since you don’t want to be wished a Happy Father’s Day … there, I said it anyway. XXXL?! (Did I miss an X?) Whoa!

Ya…it isn’t but even so, it is a hassle getting there from here…and where she is is really the dumps! Bad administration! Not really a big place – would have been really nice if only they could run it properly. Some of our schools here are heaps nicer!

Yup, you missed out one…XXXX! LOL!!! πŸ˜€

  11. Thank god Simon is away on his 3 days trip.. we totally forgot that today is Farther’s Day in Asia and the US, Australia’s and NZ’s is on 2nd September…hehehehe. Love the card πŸ™‚

Ya…dunno why they just have to be different. Well, at least, you’ve ample time to prepare a big Father’s Day surprise for him then… πŸ˜‰

    1. OMG…did I just write Farther…muahahaha. Finger trouble…not intentional!!! Happy Father’s Day!!!!

Not very far wrong as well, I must say. Muahahahahaha!!!! πŸ˜€

  12. Happy father’s day to you Arthur. So nice Melissa making you a limited edition card…really looks like real one.

Thanks. Ya…it was really nicely done, love it! πŸ˜‰

  13. Wishing you Happy Father’s Day, everyday πŸ™‚ Indeed a very special card. And that is one cheery green/gold t-shirt, very Oz!

Thanks. That’s Melissa’s favourite colour. Said she would want to buy a car that colour next time – the mum horrified! Muahahahahaha!!!!!

  14. Your daughter’s card is really creative. The two cakes look yummilicious. Have a Happy Father’s Day.

Thanks. Ya…love the card and the cakes. Yum! Yum! πŸ˜‰

  15. No worries, glad you like it! πŸ™‚

Hey, that card is awesome! Melissa certainly is creative. It not only looks like an iPhone but the “app icons” actually opens up to show a message! πŸ˜€

Thanks for the food recommendations, we ended up having our Father’s Day dinner in Payung Cafe coz my dad has not tried it yet.

I’ll catch up with you again soon! πŸ˜€

Ya, Melissa loves doing such things. Ah!!! Payung! Nice, very nice…and hopefully not too spicy for your parents. See you! πŸ˜‰

  16. Happy Belated Father’s Day Arthur. I love the card Melissa made for you. Money cannot buy one. Are you sure you wear XXXXL T-shirts. I went to look for some cool Big Dog T-shirts for you but I was told they closed shop already 😦

Thanks. Oh? Bankrupt kah? Not enough big people to buy their t-shirts? LOL!!! πŸ˜€

    1. Arthur, I checked, you wear XXXL for Big Dog T shirts, are you telling me you now wear XXXXL???? Quickly tell me because I found a way to buy Big Dog T-Shirts!! Close shop also no problem for me. I clever or not? hahaha

Big Dog 3X no problem… Sometimes depends on the brand, 4X may be too big sometimes.

  17. Happy Belated Father’s Day, hope you do have a great time despite Melissa was away from home. Did Lucy bring you out for dinner? kekekekkekek..

Lovely card, so sweet of Melissa and i have to say she is very creative!!

Nope, we celebrated earlier, so hapus kira liao. πŸ™‚ Ya…it is indeed very lovely and so sweet of her – that’s my girl! πŸ˜‰

  18. Ahhhh….such a lovely and creative handmade card. I’m liking it!
Happy Father’s Day! Hehehe…everyday is a father’s day when Melissa is around. Rite?? ^^

My! You’re early? Muahahahaha!!!! Ya, it certainly is…but unfortunately, she has gone back to college now… 😦

    1. Hahaha…of cos I’m ‘early’!
Ahh…don’t feel sad. Nvm….there’s oways promo on flight ticket. She can come home soon after her last sem. Or mayb you can plan a family trip soon after she finish her semester? =)

Ya…we can always go over at any time convenient to us. Shouldn’t be a problem now and it would not be as expensive as when she was overseas. πŸ˜‰

  19. haha, you were celebrating Father’s Day and i was celebrating my birthday!! that was really a nice and unique card, love it!! iDad5, very creative, hahaha~~

Oh? I didn’t know… Otherwise we could have drunk a toast to your good health and good luck in the year ahead. πŸ˜‰
