Been a long time…

It had been a long time since I met Raphael, my ex-student who is currently residing and working in the US, San Francisco to be exact, and comes home once every two years…but we do keep in touch via that social network plus he drops by my blog regularly to see what mischief this old man has been up to. LOL!!! Well, he was back in town and we got together one night…

With Raphael & Gerald

…along with Β another ex-student of mine, Gerald, who was Raphael’s classmate in school and whom I had not seen for a long time too.

We agreed to meet at this place

…that night. Gee! I’ve lost count of the number of times I was there over the past few days…

Raphael was down with tummy upset so we did not really eat much and spent most of the time chatting. I ordered the mushroom roll, considering that it is not spicy, and also their pomelo salad…

…to share. Personally, I did not like the strong smell of some leaves that they had in it so I think I would very much prefer their guava salad instead.

Gerald had their otak-otak while I ordered their green chicken curry…

…which was pretty good and I would add that to my list of options that I could have the next time I dine there.

They fried this dish for me…

Myanmar veg dish

…on the house. The boss said that it was some kind of Myanmarese vegetable dish. It was spicy and quite tasty but I did not think it was anything really special – not something that I would be longing to have again. Actually, I loved the titek, their Indonesian-style tapioca leaves with sweet potatoesΒ that I had had once before but unfortunately it never got permanently featured on their menu. Perhaps unfortunately, it did not go down so well with the other diners.

We were there enjoying ourselves, catching up with old times and old acquaintances and things of general interest…until a BIG group of women came and plonked themselves at the table right beside ours and they were talking so very loudly that we had difficulty getting ourselves heard. In the end, we decided to call it a day and left.

Thanks so much, Gerald, for the treat – we can get together again sometime…and thanks to you too, Raphael. It sure was nice to see you again – do keep in touch as always and thanks for the chocolates…

Chocs from Raphael

…and the fresh supply of…SPAM, American no less!!!!

Oh? You eat so much? Never mind..you’re so thin and I guess you go to the gym often, so eat to your heart’s content! πŸ˜‰

  2. Wow! I love the deco and the chocolates and spam! yum!

What about the boys? They’re very eligible, all available…except the one on the left. Muahahahahahaha!!!!!

  3. LOL… Claire is gonna drool on the SPAM for sure. She loves SPAM.

No worries, her son can get her half a dozen can anytime… So cheap down there. πŸ˜‰

  4. 3 youngish boys hanging out together. I hope no mischief happened..hehehe. Love the flower arrangement and of course the foodddddd!!!!

Yes, don’t worry. The 3 of us are all good boys, so well-behaved. LOL!!! πŸ˜€

  5. This in a killer post ni. Semua orang seberang sungai & lautan rumah banjir air liur dibuatnya…oh pomelo salad oh SPAM….Lucky no belimbing prawns.

Hah!!! Click the link…you can get to see belimbing prawns somewhere. Btw, I saw the Indon guy cooking – very easy. I think I will do it one of these days… πŸ˜‰

  6. haha, yeah, it’s that restaurant again, it’s that pot of flowers again, it’s that pomelo salad again~~ LOL.. no wonder you got something on the house for you!! πŸ˜€

Hehehehehe!!!! Have I posted a photo of the pomelo salad before? I don’t think so – the guava salad, yes. It must have been smallkucing. She had that (on the house by virtue of the mere mention of my name) when she was in town. I don’t remember having it myself before. And Annie-Q also had something FOC when she dropped by the place the other day. The people are very nice and friendly.

  7. Arthur you so notty wan! Ppl fry for you on the house but you no fancy. Instead you like their tetek! @_@

I give my frank and honest opinion mah. If not, they put on their menu and then everytime they get scolded when people complain it is not nice.

  8. Titek is such a funny name for a dish! I guess some diners find it weird to order “Satu titek please BOSS!”

Not as bad as, “Kasi lu punya titek dua, boss!!!” Muahahahaha!!!! πŸ˜€

    1. Ya la, guys better don’t say the wrong thing to a waitress when order that dish. Try what Arthur said and get two tight slaps! hahaha

LOL!!! They may get more than what they expect, who knows. Hehehehehe!!!!

  9. Oh, love the creative flowers arrangement. Your favourite hangout place, hehehe. The green chicken curry looks nice and of course not forgetting my favourite chocolate too.

Yes, but I guess I will not be going so often now that nobody’s coming to town… Most of the time, we just eat at home. 😦

  10. must be so heart-warming to meet your ex-students and are still maintaining such a close relationship with each other. They even bought you chocolates, SO SWEET huh πŸ˜›

Yes, I am glad I had some very good students who take the trouble to keep in touch… Many have gone their own ways. 😦

  11. tsk tsk tsk…so many visitors, one after another one and i can count you been to Payung three or four times a week!!! *faint* The boss must be so so happy to see you!! Their loyal customer!

When the other day i saw u post that picture in FB, i want to say, i know the place!! I remember that blackboard. hahahhah

I like that pomelo salad, very refreshing..nice!! And now i miss that Jelly Pisang!!!! Especially on a hot hot afternoon!

Make your own. Buy the jelly crystals, come in a little box at the supermarket – cherry flavour (strawberry’s sour – not so nice). One box can make a lot of jelly already. In a tall glass, put some cut banana slices, some jelly (original, they put shaved ice on top, Payung’s doesn’t have) pour in a bit of sugar syrup and milk (evaporated) and top that with vanilla ice cream (original, no ice cream). Come, give it a try – easy and cheap… πŸ˜‰

  12. wuah…ho chiak! i was there during my Gawai trip back to Sibu. impressive place. first time there. can i have some of your Spam collection please? πŸ™‚

You were there? When? I was there for dinner on the 2nd, dessert on the 3rd and around lunchtime on the 4th. Were you around? SPAM…ummm…sale at Giant, around RM13. Usual price at Ta Kiong RM15,00. Hehehehehehe!!!!

  13. the food doesnt really attract me much, probably because of the color. =p
but the flowers in the pot really nice!

Never judge a book by its cover! Some food looks so nice and colourful but may not taste great. Same as picking a wife – never choose based on outward appearance alone. πŸ˜‰

  14. By looking at the first 2 pics, I would have guessed it’s a thai place. Hey I like SPAM too! And it’s quite cheap in Manila where I used to buy it for USD$2/can.

So cheap! It’s around $4 in Singapore… RM15 here, the other day RM13 at a mid-year sale. 😦 This one’s isn’t a Thai place – they have an Indon, a Bangladeshi or two working there…maybe a Myanmarese too so you get a mix of all the different cuisines. Nice place, nice food.

  15. The food look delicious but I love the flower pot, very creative ideal.

Care to share some of your chocolate with me?

No problem! That’s a big bag, enough to go round. Better come over quickly before all of it is gone… Hehehehehe!!!

  16. what a great food to have. I wish i could join you all there.

Most welcome to hop over… We’ve got some good stuff here but not many places where we can go to enjoy good authentic Indian food. Btw, welcome and thanks for dropping by…

  17. the one on the far right is still available? >=< i remember him, he used to be a small, thin guy… πŸ˜› heard one of your ex student passed away too… r.k. rip..

Yes, that’s what one of them told me that night – leptospirosis, they said. So sad, still so young. Yup, the mousey, scrawny guy has grown into a real hunk – still available. πŸ˜‰

  18. I love the way they decorate the flowers in water, very nice!! I am a firm believer in Feng Shui and that water flowers will attract clients to come back!!!!! No wonder lah, Suituapui pergi balik….. ha ha ha ha!!!!

Oh? Is that so? Then I must start doing the same at my house… I need good feng shui, lots and lots of luck.

  19. SPAM…there must always be at least a can in the larder or else the hubster will go insane.

Well, I’ve eaten one. Two more to go… Hehehehehe!!!!
