As time goes by, things change…and so it is with Sibu town. There was a small wooden church here right in the heart of town but look at it now…
I must say that I am glad that they have retained its exterior appearance somewhat and it still looks like a church unlike some of those horrendous modern structures that attempt to pass off as solemn places of worship.
As you walk around the town, you may catch glimpses of the old Sibu…
…but even in this row of shophouses, some of which have retained its original form, the pavement is no longer what it used to be like. Of course, this tiled five-foot way…
…looks a whole lot nicer than the way it used to be – just plain concrete or cement.
Some of the shops have been modified and may look quite different from what they were like before…
…and some have been restored…
…and made to appear more appealing. Of course, they’re not exactly like what they used to be anymore, I’m afraid.
This is the “newer” part of Sibu town…
…and it being sunny and dry lately, those trees have started to bloom, their flowers looking like those cherry blossoms in countries like Japan and others in the temperate regions.
In fact, it was so hot that day that an interesting phenomenon evolved…
– there was a rainbow-like ring around the sun but of course, that was only temporary. After a while, it was gone…
That’s life, I guess. Nothing stays the same, nothing lasts forever…
