Leaving tonight…

My cousins and nephew who were in town were leaving that night so in the morning, they went around town on their own to buy the kompia and the lung ngor, the Foochow version of the kay nerng kor or kuih bahulu…and they loved the Foochow mee sua that they had the day before so they went back to that same coffee shop themselves to have that as well as the kampua noodles and also the pek ting eyok – the eight medicinal herbs which I am not really a fan of…and they loved it!

Just before noon, I went to the hotel and after they had checked out, I took them here for lunch but it was closed so I decided to take them to the sister cafe instead. At least, they could admire the unique architectural design and looking at the certificates hanging on the wall beside the entrance, we could tell that they had won some awards from the architects’ association in the country – pretty impressive, don’t you think?

Well, I ordered what I had on my first visit that I thought was quite nice – their homemade XO sauce fried rice (RM15.00)…

The portion was so huge that there was more than enough for the 5 of us and besides, they all had had a fairly heavy breakfast earlier at the coffee shop.

I also liked their Thai-style midin (wild jungle fern) with pork belly (RM18.00)…

…and their homemade pork satay (RM15.00 for 7 sticks)…

…so I ordered them again.

Other than those, we also tried their sweet potato leaves with belacan (RM15.00)…

Despite the fact that we could hardly taste the belacan, there was the general consensus that it was very nicely done and we all enjoyed it, perhaps even more than the midin that I liked the first time around. Everyone thought that the food was all right…but some of us felt that there was a bit too much msg – only a bit this time around as I had specially instructed that they reduced the amount used when I ordered the food.

After lunch, we stopped by here to pick up the banana cake and also here, to get the mille crepes that they had ordered to take home to Kuching. According to them, they did not think there was any mille crepe in the state capital…and no banana cake that is as nice.

Once everything had been collected, we headed back to my house to while the time away and after a simple dinner of some home-cooked or kampung-style dishes such as my missus’ sweet and sour white pomfret…

…and steamed cincaluk (fermented shrimps) pork…

…plus my mother-in-law’s sambal udang kering (dried prawns)…

…and also our foster-cousin’s sambal buah emplam

…and paku (wild fern) fried with dried prawns…

…and so on, I sent them to the airport to catch their flight home.

Thanks so much, everybody, for dropping by. It certainly was a welcome break for me and I do love company. Do come again…soon.
