Annie-Q came home to Sibu with her twins on Thursday, the 31st of May, and that very night itself, we went out for dinner at that regular dining place of mine.
Of course, she MUST try their pork belly with mantao (steamed buns)…
…and my favourite, the fish (tapah, no less) with the yummy thick brown gravy…
…and we also ordered the lemon chicken…
…that Melissa loved a great deal, and also their honey prawn balls…
…which were very nice as well.
The sea cucumber soup…
…was all right – a bit too sour for my liking but the twins thought it was the not-to-be-named soup so that would give everybody a fair idea of what it was like and how good it was.
Annie-Q must be so very disappointed as halfway through dinner, we were informed that they had run out of midin (wild jungle fern). She was looking forward so much to eating that. But she did get to eat the cangkuk manis fried with egg…
…and she ordered this plate of kangkong (water spinach) fried with belacan (dried prawn paste)…
…for her son, Cruz. She herself would not touch belacan or eat anything cooked with it but the irony is that the son loves it a lot! LOL!!! It was really very nicely done that night and everyone enjoyed it a lot despite the fact that I thought there were more stalk than leaves. Thankfully, the stalks were soft, not hard, so nobody had a problem with that actually.
I saw the people at the next table eating something that I had not had before – fried pumpkin with salted egg and it looked and smelt very nice so I wanted that as well. Unfortunately, when it was served – the chef had got it all wrong and dished out a plate of bitter gourd fried with salted egg instead. So, we sent it back and decided to cancel the order as everyone was already filled to the brim by then.
The bill came up to over RM170, inclusive of rice (some had seconds) and drinks, for the 10 of us (including Annie-Q’s brother and his wife and son). I went to the counter to settle it but was told that the lady had already left a deposit with them well before dinner started. Hmmm…that would be Annie-Q’s mum! Gosh! And to think that it was I who invited them out for dinner… I guess I will have to take them out again for dinner while they are in town – and hopefully, they will not beat me to it the next time around.
