I remember the jingle they use in their advertisement, “…so good you can eat it on its own!

But unfortunately, I never really liked their buns and muffins – those that I used to buy from the 7-11 shops for breakfast in the hotel room before departing by taxi to KLIA around 5 or 6 something in the morning to catch my flight home to Sibu, well before they started serving breakfast in the hotel cafe or restaurant.

However, when my niece was home recently for the weekend, she bought us this loaf of butterscotch bread (RM4.20)…

Gardenia butterscotch bread 1
*Who’s that Uncle Slocumm, can anybody enlighten me on this?*

…and I must say that it certainly was good enough to be eaten on its own, as claimed but still, I would very much prefer it with generous applications ofΒ peanut butter or jam instead of having it plain like this…

As they say, old habits die hard and that, I simply can’t deny.

The waffles (RM1.40 for a pack of two slices) were very nice though…

…even when eaten cold without any melted butter or thick syrup or honey or ice cream.

If I’m not mistaken, these are usually available at the airport shops (though I may be wrong) and anyhow, if I happen to see them anywhere anytime, I certainly would grab a few packets to bring home. They are that good, or at least to me, they are!

  1. Now I seldom eat gardenia bread…..
Normally I just get the plain wheat bread n add d toppings…
I like those gardenia cream bun… My fav is jagung flavor…
    Nice though…

Eyewwwwww!!!! I think I had those jagung ones as well for my pre-dawn breakfasts in the hotel. Can’t stand the cream – artificial essence overdose…and those ikan bilis ones – the sambal tastes like the one from the can. Not nice at all….

  2. BAN BAN BAN!! i’ve already banned gardenia!! will never buy gardenia bread anymore..

*starts singing, “Gardenia…so good you can eat it on its own!!!” Muahahahahaha!!!!!

  3. Throw into the toaster… ShiokAlicious!

Malas. All gone, anyway. Will try next time…when I get my hands on some more. πŸ˜‰ LOL!!! πŸ˜€

  4. Normally I would buy their plain wheat bread to eat with peanut butter or kaya. Never try their butterscotch bread. The waffles looks good though.

Can get in Kuching also? My cousin in Miri says they get at a supermart there on Thursdays and Fridays every week… Can’t get in Sibu. 😦

    1. My daughter used to buy for me when I went to KL. Can’t find any in Kuching too.

Ok, fair and square. Hehehehehe!!! πŸ˜‰

  5. Someone is boycotting Gardenia.. hahaha… yes, one time my girl loves that flavour.. there are two actually, one is the choc one, not so nice.. i prefer this butterscotch more.. I havent try the waffle though.. heard it is good.. yeah..

Go, go and buy….beli banyak-banyak!!! Muahahahahaha!!!!!! My cousin in Kuching likes the choc also and the raisins, her hubby will buy at LCCT everytime when on official trips because butter scotch always out of stock, she says. First time I’m eating their bread loaf and waffles. Never had before.

  6. Taste all like the same to me lah. I don’t really care what bread I’m eating…

I guess you’re not into bread. I’m not either. Never mind what special flavour or variety it may be, I can’t eat it plain – would need the whole works to make it into something that is more to my taste. Btw, your first time here? Welcome and thanks for dropping by and commenting. Do come again… πŸ˜‰

    1. Yeah, first time. wkwkwk…
      I saw you from SK’s blog…

thanks for dropping by my blog too… thanks for linking me… I’ll be putting up link exchange on my blog soon, so expect that I’ll be linking up your’s too. I just need to do it manually because my template now has no CSS. as you can see, all the widgets in my blog was manually added.
and oh, nice knowing you and hope this is just the beginning of more blogging moments to come. I just started blogging not 3 months ago

Ah! So you’re [SK]’s friend. Good, good, most welcome here. Ya…I did notice that you’re pretty new. Do stick around, hope you will drop by often. πŸ˜‰

  7. I like Gardenia soft with a hint of sweetness. I used to buy the ikan bilis buns as they tasted better than from bakery although you are right, the ikan bilis macam from the! Haven’t seen the buns though the last time I was back and I have definately not seen the butter scotch and the rest of the gang. Oh, another favourite of mine is the fruity ones…nice when toasted.

At KLIA? They do not sell them at the convenience store anymore, other brands…but you can get them at the LCCT. I’m not really into bread but I quite like this one…and I prefer the waffles.

  8. I love Gardenia breads, but unfortunately I couldn’t get them in Kuching. If I do go to KL I will buy few loaves home.

I guess you’re not the only one. My niece bought a lot that day – gave us two. I gave one to my parents…kept one for ourselves.

  9. I love waffles.. Must try it! But never seen before leh… Can get anywhere ??

Dunno. You have Gardenia in Johore? These were very nice, both flavours – I wouldn’t mind having them again. πŸ˜‰

  10. Empty calories. I’d rather have wholemeal bread! YUMS!

Carbs = energy-producing food. Not into bread…unless I’ve ham or bacon…or at least, tuna or sardine…or eggs. YUMS! LOL!!!

  11. We also have Gardenia loafs here in the Philippines and I like blackforest among the flavors.

You have? Made in the Philippines, same name, I’m sure…not imported from Malaysia.

  12. Haven’t tried the butterscotch bread, but yeah, the waffles are nice! Put them in the toaster lagi best!

Ok, noted. Will d o that the next time I get hold of anymore. πŸ˜‰

  13. this is one of my favourite when it just out in market. I can eat it for my lunch and dinner!! So nice to go with coffee, and can imagine, sometime i can finish one loaf in a day. Maybe i eat too much, till i phobia, had been quite sometime i didn’t had it already.

Ok, i will bring a few back for you next week!!

Good grief! A loaf a day!!! Muahahahahaha!!!!! Ya…looking forward to that – next week! πŸ˜‰

  14. there was one time i was crazy of these. but now ate too much. jelak already

Same thing with everything else, gets tired after a while. Guess that wouldn’t happen in our case as we cannot buy them here.

  15. Itu butterscotch I oso suka but the waffle never try before. Must go hunt for it one of these days πŸ™‚

I like the waffles more than the bread…but then, I’m not really a bread person…

  16. i’ve not tried the waffles. I spot the word cinnamon which means I will be buying it tomorrow. I love cinnamon!

    Very nice. Very fragrant… πŸ˜‰

  17. Yes..both also I have tried. Taste good. My girls love the waffle when I top up with a scoop of vanilla ice cream

I thought so too…but before I could go and buy any ice cream, I finished eating both already. LOL!!!!

  18. I never buy flavored bread. Always go for plain ones for any brand. Looks like I will eat lots of breads for the next three weeks. I want my rice.

Hahahahaha!!!! You do not have much choice, do you? Cold sandwiches… I love their meat pies though…but can’t have too much – after a while, they all taste the same. At least you do go for westerns – pastas and stuff so you’ll get by pretty well. My father wouldn’t touch anything not Chinese – imagine him surviving on fried rice from Chinese takeaways when in Quay Lo land…

    1. Ya, laugh at me. Tell me about it!! I am not too far from your Dad. When I was in Rome for a month, guess what I survived on? Pepperoni penne everyday in the same little Italian Restaurant until the chef got curious and came out to find out who this stupid customer was. Even the waiters there all need not ask me what I want to eat when I walked into the place. LOL!

Why? It would have that pasta taste still – nothing like our noodles back home. Yummmmm!!!!! LOL!!!
