Phone ringing…

It has been said that ringtones are an opportunity to express yourself and they do say something about you.

Old & new handphones

It is believed that users who constantly change their rings might be flighty and unreliable, adding that people who retain one particular tone for a long period of time are more reliable, but sometime misjudged as ‘old school’. So, what is your current ringtone? What does it say about you?

According to one website, if your phone plays a classical tune or a favourite oldie from days gone by, you’re showing your age. If your phone is still playing festive songs out of season such as Chinese New Year, Hari Raya or Christmas songs in the middle of the year, you’re considered as being not very productive but if your ringtone is a current hit, you are young at heart.

Well, I don’t change my ringtone all the time anymore. When I was using my old one, the one on the left in the photo above, I had Nirvana and later, I had Maroon 5 and a number of others but eventually, I stuck to “1973” by James BluntΒ for a long time…and no, I never had “Crazy Frog” nor “Fast and furious – Tokyo drift” ever! So where does all that put me? Young at heart or showing my age? LOL!!!

After I had switched to the new one (right), I found that I could not transfer the ringtones from one to the other so I just used one of those (boring ones) that came with the phone…until quite recently, when I discovered that I could go online on my mobile and download ringtones for free. Yipee!!!!!

So, of course, I’ve got a “new” ringtone now!!! Wanna guess what it is? LOL!!!

  1. My ringtone is usually something that I like with a catchy beat, sometimes it’s a latest hit — but not always. I don’t change it often, when I find something I like. I tend to stick with it for a while. πŸ™‚

Perhaps your ringtone is ‘Forever Young’ or ‘Party all the Time’? Regardless of your age, you’ll always be the life of any party. πŸ˜‰

Aha! I think I had “Party all the time” once…a long time ago but I never had “Forveer Young” – hmmm…that would be appropriate, wouldn’t it? LOL!!!

  2. Nice! You have Nirvana’s The Man Who Sold The World as your ringtone?
I like that song – it’s by David Bowie, Nirvana did a cover for it for their MTV acoustics album. πŸ™‚

Personally, I stick to the default ringtone or if I don’t like it, just a general ring. I used to put loud NOFX songs as my ringtone but I quit doing that. I find that I tend to notice the phone ringing more if it’s a ringing sound instead of music, which can come from anywhere either at home, work or outside.

My guess on your ringtone based on your title – Telephone by Lady Gaga. πŸ˜‰

Hah!!! I thought only ancient relics like me would know that David Bowie sang The man who sold the world! And there was a cover version by Lulu too – bet you’re too young to know who she is. Nirvana came much later. Lady Gaga? No….yunno that I’m not a fan though I do like Telephone…and I liked Bad Romance before the overkill – it seemed that everybody’s ringtone then was that song but not mine though – didn’t know how to download ringtones for free then. Me, cheapskate! LOL!!! πŸ˜€

  3. would it be something from Lady Gaga?

Hmmmm…thought the handphone shops sorts out all your ringtones and data transfers?

Now, you’re the 2nd one who’s guessing it’s the Gaga(k). No, it, isn’t. LOL!!! Do the shops do that? Maybe mot for cheap antique phones like mine – see photo! Blush! Blush! 😦

  4. my ringtone is baby rap new version according to zedge. been using it forever.. so i am reliable. LOL!
so many ringtones, hard to guess you use which one ler… >.>

That’s cute…but when you have babies of your own, that’s probably the last sound you would wanna hear. LOL!!! πŸ˜€

  5. Phone Ringing by Yo Gotti if we are going by the title of your post πŸ™‚ But Huai Bin prolly hit the nail on the head with his guess

No, sorry. Actually I googled that up to look for am appropriate title for the post. Not my kind of music though – I wouldn’t wanna use it for my ringtone…and no, it’s not Lady Gaga either.

    1. Just as a note, I love that you have your daughter’s pic as your wallpaper πŸ™‚

      She’s all I have…<3 ❀ ❀ πŸ˜‰

  6. Before I got my smartphone…all my ringtones are the ‘ring ring ring’ like my land line phone. LOL! Den now modern abit dah…got songs liao…but not I set wan… my husband set for me. πŸ˜›

The traditional ringing, they say – you’re not funny. Maybe they take it as a joke or what. So what’s your current ringtone now? Dunno the name? Hmmm…typical of old people – know the song, dunno the name. Muahahahahaha!!!! πŸ˜€

    1. LOL… no la… actually I like those songs wan, but they’re very soft and usually hard to listen to when they ring. The ring ring more pitching… so I wun miss the calls. LOL! Now punya kah? Entah… tak tau apa Japanese song. Quite hippy! LOL!

Always good to check once in a while…just in case one fails to hear. Some people never bother – my missus is one. No need to bother to call or sms most of the time as call half-dead also, she would not know (and she has TWO handphones!!!) but after all the nagging and grumbling and complaining, she’s a whole lot better these days – no longer like before.

      1. *sigh* okay la, okay la… I mengaku la… my current ringtone is Doraemon song and Chibi Maruko song. Dunno what title la… the Doraemon one goes ‘Ang Ang Ang’ den the Maruko one goes ‘Pipi pa pa pipi pa pa.’ *blush blush*

2nd childhood…or you’re like somebody – forced to choose a ringtone for the sake of the anak? Very maternal eh? πŸ˜‰

  7. My ringtone was what my phone came with. It’s always in silent mode ’cause I get rather embarrassed if my phone blares with some pop songs I thought were cool at the wrong places, which was happening all the time back in the days.

LOL!!! Silent mode eh? Definitely doesn’t reflect your personality… πŸ˜‰ I always switch my hp to silent mode like in church or school, at meetings and so on…so as not to be a nuisance and to avoid any embarrassment. Just can’t understand why people can’t do a simple thing like that – simple etiquette, sheer good manners and discipline. Imagine at a funeral and a phone comes alive with Wham’s “Wake me up before you go-go”!!! πŸ˜€

  8. Before my iphone, my nokia music express is full of songs I downloaded from the net… mostly christian songs were my ringtones. But now with the iphone, I have to use the old “phone ringing” sound because this is the only one which rings loud even though it is in my office drawer! πŸ™‚

Wah!!! So holy hor… LOL!!! Can’t hear? Hmmmm….maybe it’s true what they say – as a person grows old, he/she grows a bit deaf but his/her fart grows a bit louder! Muahahahahahahaha!!!!

    1. very true re: fart… hahaha… tan phui bo chau, chau phui bo tan…

Hahahahaha!!!! Speaking from experience eh? πŸ˜‰

  9. I have ‘if I ain’t got you’ as my ringtone. A duet by Anthony evens and Jesse campbell πŸ™‚ fell in love with the song the first time I listened to it. Hehe..but most of the time my hp is in silent mode πŸ™‚ I’m guessing yours would be one of adele’s songs maybe?

Oooo…so sentimental, so romantic. LOL!!! Mine’s not on silent mode unless there’s a reason to switchit off…but I hardly get to hear my ringtone as nobody ever calls me… Sobssss!!!! So sad… LOL!!! πŸ˜€ Adele? Well, she’s got a lot of songs…so which one? πŸ˜‰

  10. actually quite troublesome to change the ringtone, and because my phone seldom rings (i text message more), so hardly remind myself to change.. my current “rolling in the deep” ringtone is like nearly a year old, i think i shall change it already.. :p

Yup…my hp hardly rings too – nobody ever calls me. 😦 Hmmm…”Rolling in the deep” is nice, quite current…

  11. Ok ok! I am still young at heart but not so up to date lah. My the current ring tone is “Love you like a love song” by Selena Gomez is my girl’s favourite, so i install the ring tone for her sake! ;p

I saw the song on the list but I did not choose it – not my favourite song and not my favourite singer either.

  12. Dont tell me you download “Rolling in the Deep” by Adele as your new ring tone? ;p it was my ring tone for few months before I changed it to current one

No, no, not “Rolling in the deep”! That’s [SK]’s ringtone… πŸ˜‰

  13. got new phone ka? Me…I am lazy to change ring tone and wallpaper. You see my blog you also can agak already…layout template all the same till Uncle Lee complain I baru change

Mine hardly ever changes either – I would think the content is the most important. The template doesn’t serve any purpose actually – only to sloe down the downloading when there are simply too many things, wallpaper, tags and all. 😦

    1. I more lazy la… more than one year not yet change… malas…biarlah… content first. LOL!

Yalor….cantik-cantik…all crap, also no use. πŸ˜‰

  14. I used one of those ringtones that come with the phone. Quite catchy…”Hat Dance”. I hardly change the ringing tone from time to time. Would stick to one only.

Must be a very loyal person. Hat Dance? I wonder if it’s the Mexican Hat Dance…

  15. Korean Girl Generation – hit song Genie.. LOL..
by the way .. couple hp kekekeke…
I always upload the latest hit song .
but recently I repaired my phone and all the songs gone..
so I just use the classic phone ring tone..
    so what it says?

K-pop? Eyewwwwww!!!! Well, I guess that just goes to show that the old one is still the best – like me! Hehehehehehe!!!! πŸ˜‰

  16. I used to have different ring tones for different people. Among the ring tones I had was When the stars go blue by Tim McGraw ( my fave ) for unknown numbers, Suspicious mind by Elvis Presley ( don’t ask for whom the ring tone belongs to ), Walk The Line by Johnny Cash ( don’t ask ) , Strawberry Shortcake theme song for my 3rd sister, Kungfu Fighting for my 2nd sister, That’s not my name ( British Girl group…forgot the name ) for my god-daughter and I don’t feel like dancing by Scissors Sisters for Justyn and for my darling, Chasing Cars by Snow Patrol.Nowadays, all standard ring tone from Iphone for everyone…only because I can’t figure out how to allocate each song for every!!

Good grief!!! That is so confusing! I know many use We are family for calls from family members and another ringtone for others. Ahhhhh!!!! Chasing cars! I like… Not Leaving on a jetplane or Fly me to the moon kah? πŸ˜‰

    1. Simon’s ring tones most of the time before he use Iphone was Time of the season by Zombies….sexy hor!

Muahahahahaha!!! My goodness! That’s really old… I think I was still in school when that song was a hit. LOL!!! πŸ˜€

  17. Alamak! I guess I’ll have to label myself as “Boring” since my phone ringtone sounds like … wait for it ……. a regular phone.
I’m not going to attempt at guessing what your ringtone is since I don’t know you well enough and there are a gazzillion sounds out there!

LOL!!! Not going to take the chance and make a wild guess? Who knows? It may be your lucky day. LOL!!!

    1. Ok then, here goes …. Bohemian Rhapsody (Queen). Howzat?

      Ooooo…that’s a classic – I really love it a lot…but no, that’s not it! LOL!!! πŸ˜€

  18. My current ringtone is Gotye’s “Someone that I Used to Know”. Yours is….Adele’s “Set Fire to the Rain” !

Wah, Shereen back then didn’t have a compilation of tunes but a complication of tunes, hahahaaaaa! The first time I heard Chasing Cars was on Grey Anatomy, great song.

Now who has told you that???? *stomping on the ground in rage *Rumpelstilskin mode* LOL!!!

Bingo, you got it!!! Now what dates will you be in Penang again? You’ll have to text me as soon as you arrive at the hotel – Onn’s full name (I suppose you’ll be there with him and registered under his name? Wink! Wink! LOL!!!) and also your room number and I’ll poslaju you your prize – dijamin sampai hari esok so should not be a problem reaching you before you leave.

I’m ok with the Gotye’s song – not really my favourite. I think it’s on the list of downloads too but I did not choose it. I’d much sooner choose Chasing cars…but that’s past its time already. Hehehehehehe!!! πŸ˜‰

  19. Really?? I guessed correctly? Woohoo! I think you mentioned on FB when Adele got her awards that you like this song, I like it too. We’ll be checking into the E&O Hotel on 25th, I will sms you before then – hotel can hold parcel till we get there. So happy to get a prize from you!

And I am going to ask the hotel for a room keycard for your collection and I will chuck a wobbly if they refuse!

Ok, 25th. Noted… Nope! I like “Someone like you” but “Set fire to the rain” is newer or released as a single later or something like that. I like “Rolling in the deep” too…and of course, “Make you feel my love”.

  20. let me guess.. Gong xi fa cai ring tone?.. hehe, oh.. not yet ka? πŸ˜›

For me, my iphone is forever on silent vibrate mode, until i’m so used to it that I haven’t heard any ring tone coming out for years. But if playing games or watching movies on the phone, then only do I switch on the volume.

Wah!!! I would have thought you’re the silent type, very reserved and keeping to yourself…but no leh! Not at all. LOL!!! πŸ˜‰

    1. Why vibrate only? Won’t you miss any important calls? Gosh!

I guess he keeps it in his trouser pocket and hopes many people will call so he can syiok…enjoy the vibrations. Muahahahahahaha!!!! πŸ˜€

  21. love Adele!! Me too! Love all her songs…rolling in the deep, someone like you and set fire to the rain, all my favourites.

Hmmmmmm…Yoong know you very well hor…

Ya…I’m a fan! Eeeee…you’ve got great taste in music too, I see. That makes two of us… Muahahahahaha!!!! πŸ˜€

  22. my siblings and i all have the same ringtone–moves like jagger by maroon 5 πŸ™‚ we were surprised to find out and laughed about it πŸ™‚

I loved that song once…last year but they’ve been playing it day in, day out on the radio here – overkill already. Getting quite sick of it… 😦

  23. Before I change to Iphone the ring tone on my nokia that I gave my Quay Lo is “Phantom of the Opera”. So when my phone rings, I knew my Phantom is calling me! LOL! Then on his phone, I set the ringtone from me to him “The music of the Night”. Now we both use Iphones and just use ringtones that comes with it. I guess I am bored playing with ringtones liao.

LOL!!! I used to buy ringtones – RM2, or was it 3? But now that I can download them free, I would try and keep up with the times. The ones that came with the phone aren’t to my liking…so I’m glad I am able to change it…finally.
