But not for me…

My missus and I stopped by this place last Sunday after the evening service in church as I wanted to make reservations of the coming weekend when my daughter would be home for the holidays and my blogger-friends from the peninsula would be in town…and since we were there, we decided to have dinner before going home.

On my last visit, I saw many people eating this…

MingMeiShi tofu

…and I was wondering what it was. It turned out to be their own-made tofu served with all the ingredients and sauce. Perhaps it is all right for many people but not for me. I thought it was quite bland and not something I would want to order again. A much better choice would be the ones here.

Thankfully, the kangkong (water spinach) fried with belacan (dried prawn paste)…

MingMeiShi kangkong belacan

…was great and the gravy certainly went well with the rice.

I have not had their fried chicken for a while now so I decided to order that…

…and of course, it was nice…and anytime a whole lot better than those from that fast food chain.

Dinner wasn’t cheap though. With rice and drinks for two, the bill came up to RM28.00. I guess it is cheaper if there are more people…say, 3 or 4 persons and you order servings for 2 only – there would be more than enough to go round and it would not be so expensive this way.

  1. hmmm, i was also wondering what that colorful dish might be.. i thought it’s some kind of fish filet topped with lots of vege chunks and flooding gravy, hahahaha~~

Even if it had been fish fillet, I don’t think it would be good either. The gravy was bland…or too weak-tasting for my liking. They would need to try another recipe.

  2. but i am more interested in the fried chicken like you lor, hahahaha!! guess this is because i am a naturally “carnivore” person?? hmmm, but this is thigh and drumstick, do they have breast and wings??

I love thighs… You prefer breasts? LOL!!! πŸ˜‰

  3. Nice angle of the food here. Still same camera? The colours looks nice!

The tofu probably looks nicer than it tastes.

Yes, same camera, same photographer…nothing’s changed. LOL!!! πŸ˜€

  4. Arthur… MIDIN will be great instead of kangkung…… hahaha… lets try the authentic Sibu dishes.. something that we really cannot get over here.. really looking forward now.. 2 seeds of wild durian is enough for me.. hehehee..

Sure! Sure! You can have it every day when you’re here… πŸ˜‰

    1. satu seed for me pls….if not have to curi from Claire’s one.hahhahahah

Didn’t count. Dunno enough for one seed each for everybody or not… Like that, have to use lucky draw lor… πŸ˜€

  5. any where serving sabah choy?

Which one? Sabah sayur manis or Sabah eyew chai or Sabah puo chai…or whatever. All got but come here, eat Sarawak chai lah… What for eat Sabah ones? LOL!!! πŸ˜€

    1. I think he is referring to the “lakia chai”. Because the people here they call it Sabah Choy. πŸ˜€

Ok…no problem. He shall have lots and lots of that here! Fried with garlic and egg. Yum! Yum!

      1. YES YES YES!!! Fried with egg, so so yummy!!! I am drooling!

Don’t you wish you are coming with all of them? Drool! Drool! Muahahahahaha!!!!

  6. I say yes to the chicken, must be the thigh for me, too…nice and smooth mah. That kangkung doesn’t look belacany enough leh, mild taste?

You like thighs too? LOL!!! Aiyor…cannot have too much belacan – if the taste is too strong, it will not taste that great. Too much of a good thing is not good…. Everything in just the right amount!

  7. The fried chicken sure look nice. I look like those ayam penyet sold here. And yes, I still think this type of fried chicken taste better than the other fast food chain. :p Less flour! hehehe!

This one is a lot nicer than all the ayam penyet that we can get here – those here rather dry…but still better than those at the fast food chains anytime!

  8. Sigh … i makan maggee only tadi. silap masa la pulak bukak blog ni time ni… =P

I had Maggi goreng for breakfast this morning – fried instant noodles. Watch out for the post, coming soon… πŸ˜‰

  9. hehehe..the KL gang can’t wait to try the food that you blog over here! Yes, midin, “lakia” chai, seacucumber soup, sibu style taufu soup, all must try!! Have you jot down all, Arthur? hahahha. Now, look who is more excited than you.

Oh, Melissa will be in town too? Wow!! Great!

Yes, feasting will begin the moment the first group touches down tomorrow… Nom nom nom nom… πŸ˜€

    1. Wah!! So nice, will be so much fun…jealous πŸ˜‰ How many visitors in total, Arthur? Hiring a Hummer limo, are you, heh heh!!

9 altogether, I think. Not me – they’re rented a car big enough to take all of them around…

    2. Who is the first group? Yee Ling, Small Kuching and Quay Po? Then Claire will be on Sat?

Papa, mama & smallkucing coming tomorrow with Quay Po and her friend, Ah Peng…and Yee Ling will be here Saturday morning…and Claire and two of her children around 4, Saturday afternoon – nine of them altogether including the little boy.

  10. Wah, starting tomorrow I don’t need to come ‘here’…or else sure air liur meleleh saja…buat I kempunan only.
You order the kangkung belacan never ajak me makan also…extra rice,pls..hahahaah.

No worries. I have scheduled posts for many days – just in case I do not have time to upload the photos, come online, write the posts and publish…so it is going to be a “delayed telecast”. LOL!!!

  11. But 3-4 people with the same amount of food that you ordered, enough or not? For me, I can finish the whole fried chicken! πŸ˜›

That’s what we do here – 3 or 4 people going for dinner, and we will order the food and ask them to cook for 2-3 persons only. Servings are huge – more than enough to go round – maybe you can’t do this in KL, I wouldn’t know… Wah!!! You eat so much and still so slim? Amazing!!! If you eat chap fan – at best, they will just give you one piece…where got so generous, let you eat so much. 😦

  12. maybe the sauce of the tofu is also bland and thus it doesn’t taste good. Usually the sauce should be more salty to add flavours to the otherwise bland tofu

Yup! They need to work on that recipe…or perhaps, others like it that way? I wouldn’t know.
