That night…

That night, when Cibol and his missus, Lily, were in town, we went out for dinner together and since Lily wanted rice and dishes, I had to bring them to where else but here.

We did not have the specialty of the house though – their braised pork with mantao (steamed buns)…but we did see every other table having that and also their fried ladies’ fingers in XO sauce. Instead, we had their pork ribs cooked in stout…

The waitress told me that we were in luck as they do not have that every day and it so happened that it was available that evening. It seems that the preparation is not that easy as they would need to marinate the meat for a long time before cooking or something like that.

We also had their sweet and sour fish fillet…

– something that I had not ordered for quite a while on my last few visits to the place.

This time around, I wanted the crusty butter prawn balls…

…and also the midin (wild fern), fried with extra belacan

We also had their Foochow-style tofu soup, with minced meat and canned oysters, and rice with all these dishes.

While we were there, the place was crowded as usual with somebody celebrating his/her birthday and I met my ex-students, Patricia and her sister, and their parents…and the mum pointed at the fish saying, “There! We’re eating all that we see in your blog!” LOL!!! Then, there was my Facebook friend, ex-blogger, Anthea, and her family and I wished I had taken a photo of her eating the mantao stuffed with the braised pork. Muahahahaha!!!

Of course, Cibol and his missus enjoyed the food there – I’m afraid I do not know how much it cost as halfway through dinner, Cibol sneaked off to settle the bill. He said it was to make up for the fact that I had to miss their wedding reception sometime last year. Well, ok…so thanks a lot for the treat, Cibol, from me and my missus and we certainly hope that you two would drop by our llittle town again soon…

  1. **all of thats**… with the sssss… i meant those…

    Yes, yes, we’ll go there once…or twice…or more. 😉

  2. Probably not a good idea to check your blog in the middle of the night 😦 feeling hungry already.

Poor thing… Raid the fridge! LOL!!! 😀

  3. Everything looks great. How were the pork ribs that were cooked in stout? Did you like them?

I don’t drink stout and I don’t really know the taste…but I love these ribs – very tasty. I don’t think stout is anything like that, dunno how they cook it… 😦

  4. oh, nice!! i like the ribs cooked in stout.. hahahaha, if what you showed in your blog is nice, then why not just follow right?? 😛

But don’t know the complete recipe leh? Maybe it’s like how they cook CocaCola chicken/meat – just substitute the cola with the stout… 😉

  5. Butter prawns…delish.

Recent titles for each entry, when put together, sound rather suggestive and perhaps naughty. HaHa.

LOL!!! Exactly what my friend in NZ, Shereen, says…and she thinks tomorrow’s post will be “Satisfaction”. What’s your guess? 😉

    1. Ditto with Shereen…`Fun but too short’ maybe?

LOL!!! Patience, patience… Drop by past midnight tonight or tomorrow and you’ll see. 😀

  6. I “second-ed” WK… put it on our list.. esp the midin.. I want to eat lots of that! hahaha…

No worries! You will have lots of that when you’re here…. Getting excited yet? 😉

    1. yes..yes..more or less… dont know which to eat first.. hahaha..

Hah!!! Have to make do with whatever’s possible…and next time, come again. 😉

  7. Same thing lah last time when we went out with Manglish, Voon and Bananaz. Manglish sneaked out to foot the bill 😦

He was working in Japan, wasn’t he? Very rich lah…like that! LOL!!! 😀

  8. See how influential you are. I went to MMS that day, the owner asked how I get to know the place and I told them it’s your blog that brought me there. He seems happy and told me he know you…haha.I think you should be rewarded.

Which owner? The lady boss or her chef-husband or their handsome young son? They know me? I’m “Mr Wong” to them there – their transcription of my Chinese name. No lah! Good things, must share with friends…and not so good things, must let people know so they will not go and waste their time and money on those. No need for rewards. You were at Noodle House because you saw it in my blog too or you knew about it already?

    1. If I am not mistaken, Wee tells me you are a Hokkien and Wong is Foochow but both carry the same chinese surname(黄). Yes,I was there to try out those food in your blog.

      Don’t ask me how it happened but I’m a Wee and a Foochow…but I can;t speak the dialect – I speak Hokkien. It’s complicated. Muahahahahaha!!!!! 😀

  9. Wow. This time is stout! So nice and full of alcohol dishes~ XD

One dish only lah…and I read somewhere that if you cook with wine or whatever, the alcohol evaporates so no longer intoxicating. If you want the effect, add when serving – add a lot and you can have a good sleep after eating. LOL!!!

  10. Gosh!!…all the food looks jolly good. Midin…..slurpppp. You are famous now and some more eating what they saw in your blog.

I’m glad nobody’s cursing and swearing at me – you lah, you said so nice in your blog, tastes like crap… LOL!!! 😀

  11. Oooo!! My fav sweet and sour! I came..I saw..I leave (quick, before I put on weight just by looking at the pic!). Mmmm…yum, mmmmm…

Your fave? Very common here lah… I will order once in a while for a change, not really crazy over it.

    1. When we go and eat Thai food, I prefer a whole deep-fried fish (to fillets) in sweet chilli sauce. I think I like sticky sauces!

I don’t wanna know, spare me the nitty-gritty details, thank you very much… Muahahahahaha!!!!

  12. Ladies’ fingers in XO sauce? You had it before or not? Nice? I must try cooking that.
All the food look so niceeeee…drooling I…and I know that the pork ribs in stout are very nice

Ok lah… I still prefer it fried with sambal udang kering or boiled and ulam with sambal belacan. Ya…you had the stout pork ribs when you were here. Nice, eh?

  13. Ok…will whip up a dish this weekend….Marmite pork ribs! I have some pork ribs but no Marmite. Duno can swap with Bovril or not…ehehehhe

Dunno… Never cooked with Marmite before…nor Bovril other than tossing it with noodles.

  14. All the food i like!!!! Yum! Lucky today i had my sweet and sour chicken chop with rice at least not so bad. *blek*

But i want that midin with red wine and foo chow taufu soup…slurp slurp!

Ya, lucky you… LOL!!! I know, when with you, no sambal hay bee, no belacan…. Booked your ticket yet? When will you be home? 😉

  15. nice food there, I’m always in for some good simple but really tasty chinese cuisines such as there.. yum, haven’t eaten for the whole day. Now I’m getting really hungry…

Took the day off today, just to rest and I did just that, sleeping nearly the whole day away. I think working stress is taking its toll on me recently.

Or too many social activities. Have to set priorities…wife and family first and everything else is secondary. No food the whole day? Gosh! That’s bad, real bad… Must take better care of yourself and Janice too and vice versa.

  16. I’m so jealous every time I see you put that midin picture in the post. makes me hungry!

Come on over! You’ve been all over the world…but not to Sibu. 😦

  17. Im falling in love with malaysian dishes. I hope I could find Malaysian resto here for the upcoming weekend stroll

Thought I saw a Malaysian chef in one of your posts? He’s Chinese so you should be able to enjoy Malaysian Chinese cuisine and perhaps traditional Malaysian as well.

  18. Hey Arthur is it safe for Aunty Lucy (Quay Po) to eat ribs in stout or not? After she walk backwards. How? hehehehe

Can hardly taste anything alcoholic unlike our Foochow mee sua…or the Hakkas’ kacang ma. That one, sure intoxicated after eating. LOL!!!
