I received a text message from my ex-student, Alex, that night saying that this place was so crowded…and I replied that I was there for dinner but I had left the place. He responded saying that he saw my car and they had to go to some place else instead…and indeed, the restaurant was so very packed almost every night over the Chinese New Year period, at times even for lunch, so it would be best for anyone planning to dine there to make prior reservations like what I did…
My missus and I were there for dinner with my godson/ex-student, Andrew, and his wife Michelle who would be leaving town in a couple of days and also my ex-student, Hang Yuh, who is presently based in Kazakhstan. I wanted the Four Seasons or the leng pua (cold plate)…but the lady boss said that it would be easier for them if I would have the steaming hot version instead…
…and I agreed to her proposal just to make things easier for them to cope with the crowd.
I ordered for them my favourites and of course, we had the braised pork with mantao (steamed buns)…
…and the deep fried tapah (fish) in the very nice brown sauce…
They got this particular order of mine wrong – I wanted the creamy butter prawns and got the kiam sor hay (salty & crusty prawns) instead…
It didn’t really matter actually for they enjoyed it a lot. I can imagine the commotion in the kitchen as they desperately try to cope with the unusually huge crowd…and we’re thankful that we were able to get a place to enjoy the delightful dinner.
The bill came up to only RM115.00 for 5 persons, inclusive of drinks and rice…and this vegetable dish…
I would think that was pretty reasonable as we had the expensive fish and the prawns.
After that, we adjourned to this place…
…for drinks…
…and to chat. It was also very crowded but thankfully, we had no problem getting a place there.
We stayed there till quite late before we called it a day. It definitely was a great night out for me…and I do hope the feeling’s the same with the others concerned.
