I am truly blessed that I have such wonderful friends who will always be there whenever I need them…
My daughter had just gone over to Sungai Petani around three weeks ago so she was not keen on making the journey to and fro all over again just to come home for a week or so for Chinese New Year. Besides, she had a lot of assignments to do so she being the kind of person that she is, I am sure she would definitely not enjoy herself even if she came back.
Thankfully, my dear friend, Eng, who lives and works in Bukit Mertajam, offered to come over to SP to pick her up and take her to Penang (island) to join his family for the reunion dinner on Chinese New Year’s Eve. Melissa has a wonderful time with them – nothing like being surrounded by the warmth and happy feeling among the family and their loved ones all around, that’s for sure. They had steamboat and after dinner, they even had games and she won three of the prizes…and from the photograph that she shared on Facebook, it looked like she got some ang paos too! They sent Melissa back that night itself and she got back around midnight – when she called home, it was already around 12.30 a.m.
Then, on the 2nd day of Chinese New Year, Mandy said she would drive over from Butterworth to Sungai Petani and offered to take her out for lunch. Well, Melissa had a friend who stayed back with her (instead of following one of their friends home for the festival) – Myra, a Kadazan girl from Sabah…so I asked Melissa to ask Mandy if she would mind if Myra came along for the lunch. Of course, Mandy, knowing the kind of person she is, did not mind at all…and good grief! She took them to some expensive Chinese restaurant and they had fish…
…and prawns…
…and ooooooo….pork belly with mantao…
…and vegetables.
I don’t know if it’s the usual price or whether they jacked up the price because of Chinese New Year but I understand the bill came up to over RM100 but not exceeding RM200 for three persons!!! *faints*
I truly am indebted to the two of them for what they have done…and for friends like them and also for many of you out there who would have done the same if you had the chance, I am most grateful and will give thanks and praise the Lord each passing day.

you really have lots of friends around that love you so much, and i guess it’s also the effort that you’ve spent to bond the friendship.. friends are fallen leaves found everywhere, only true friends are like gems, precious and rare.. you’ve got lots of precious gems 🙂

Ya…I had that for dinner last night. 😉 I don’t know there but here, they simply cash in on the opportunity to fleece the customers. Normally, kampua noodles would be around RM2.50 but over the 1st few days of CNY, they were selling for RM5.00…and many who came home once a year would willingly pay so as to appease their craving.
Including me! If i am in town, i also won’t mind paying that price to eat my kampua. hahahhahah
Ok…get ready to pay that amount or more when you come back for Chinese New Year 2013…. Eeeeeee!!!! Wouldn’t that be great?
I am so happy to know that Melissa enjoyed her CNY and are being taken care of by your good friends. If she is studying in KL, she can always come to have reunion dinner at my house and spend the New Year with us. I told her already, anytime she comes to KL, she can stay with me 😀
Yup! I told her as well and she seemed keen at the time. But knowing her, once there’s work, she will lose all motivation and interest in anything else. Takes her studies very seriously, that girl. Ya…I’m very sure you’ll be ever ready to take good care of her for me. 🙂

Yes, there are, present company included. I’m sure you’s help too if you’re around – when she first met you, Melissa said you’re very nice. Easy to see… 😉 Come, plan a trip to Sibu – you promised. We have that pork belly here too.

Can never find someone like her – will go out of her way, even if it is not convenient for her, she’ll say it’s all right. Sometimes very pai seh…so I try not to trouble her as far as possible. For one thing, she will never take no for an answer.
What goes around, comes around. Good people will always be blessed:) Glad that Melissa had a good CNY despite not being with her family.
I’m glad too…and most of the time, she was in her room doing her work. Looking on the bright side, I guess she would not be as stressed out as the rest who have been leaving everything till they get back this week.
