Melissa left for Sungai Petani on New Year’s Day, the 1st of January, and the night before – New Year’s Eve, I suggested getting a few dishes from my current favourite restaurant and having dinner at my parents’ house as I knew it would make my mother especially happy. Nothing beats seeing the smile on her face and the sparkle in her eyes everytime the family – those of us around here – get together and sit down for a meal on such auspicious occasions.
I ordered the Four Seasons + one…
…which seemed to be some kind of a seafood platter special. I requested for these – the fried fish fillet with almond flakes…
…that we had before and I really liked them a lot.
The fried prawn balls with salad cream were very nice too…
…and even though I’m not a fan of mussels, these mussel fritters were pretty good as well…
These were not bad also…
..,.and the fish maw with snow peas made up the whole dish.
I wanted the fish again – the one with the very nice sauce…
…and this time around, instead of one thick slab, they gave one half of the fish. Everybody loved and enjoyed it a lot.
Then, there was the sea cucumber and beef tendon with broccoli…
…and it being the eve of the new year, I ordered a bit of fried mee sua…
…in keeping with the tradition – for longevity and prosperity.
All in all, the bill came up to RM150.00 for 6 persons…and in addition to all that, my mother asked Melissa whether she wanted crabs and since both of them expressed a fancy for the crustaceans, my father ordered a dish of two huge ones…
…that came up to over RM60.
All in all, dinner was great and certainly a fitting farewell to the old year…
