Melissa wanted to go for the renowned fish head curry at this restaurant but it was heavily booked and I did not really fancy dining in the midst of noisy crowds so we had to settle for what we could get from this place instead…and though it was all right, it was not as nice and definitely not the same.
But the day before we left for KL, we had dinner at my parents’ house, all in the family…and they ordered THE fish head curry…
…except that it was the whole fish and not just the head. Ooooo…it was as nice as ever and Melissa enjoyed it thoroughly.
We also had the Nestum prawns…
…which were huge and very nicely done as well.
The roast duck…
…was a bit tough for my parents and despite being quite toothless, I could manage it pretty well. Hehehehehehe!!! Nothing’s gonna stop me…when it comes to eating. LOL!!!
The sea cucumber & beef tendon dish was great too…
…and so was the puo chai – I did not take a photo of that as it looked pretty much the same as those that we had before.
The bill came up to RM190 for seven of us – well, good things don’t come cheap, that’s for sure but what’s most important, of course, was being able to enjoy it together with the other members of the family. In today’s world, times like this are few and far between, don’t you agree?
Chamz… u wanna sabotage me kah? If that kucing saw the curry, she sure gonna pester me to cook curry… I still hutang her one tupperware-full of curry chic leh. *CRIES*
Friend-friend, promises…must always keep one. Quick! Go cook for her for Christmas, Malaysian style.
Memang intend to cook for her wan la. But I wanna bodek her for nasi kunyit to go wif the curry chic oso. *evil grinz* Kat oh Kat…nasi kunyit goes very well with kari ayam, hor?
Yes, nasi kunyit best with curry…or masak hitam! 😉
*glare* U really have to mention masak hitam, dun u? Jahat betul! Now u made me gatal wanna make masak hitam… but I masak macam tak authentic. So sien!
Too bad the paste was out of stock or I would have bought one big box to distribute to everybody when I was in KL. 😦
Kucing saw..kucing want….eee…got prawns….dun want chic liao…kucing wants prawns….
Come, come and get it… Slurpssss!!!!
Arthur,
Probably I borong all the masak hitam paste while I was there…hahaha.
No lah! Got lots more that day – you were so lucky. You know those people make business lah… Best seller should make more and supply to the shops… Instead, boxes and boxes of rendang, curry – all yang tak laku… Nasib tak bankrupt, ini macam buat business.
See… she betul betul ingat i still hutang her curry ayam. =.=
Hutang mesti dibayar… Tak bagus tak bayar… LOL!!! 😀
you all sure love curry fish head a lot ya ? Lucky not me . Kekekeke .
Keep the sea cucumber and other dish for me . 🙂
RM 190 for so many dish ?? Cheap !!
Not bad, ya… Almost one table, minus the not-to-be-named soup and dessert. 😉
Hmm… Annie more into Chinese cuisine ah?
It’s pretty obvious, isn’t it? Or anything not spicy… Surprised she took me for Indian – maybe it was just for my sake.
Yes, yes, when we had ‘meeting’ the other day about surprising u… I was also very surprised that she actually suggested that we go to mamak.
Maybe it was because she knows that we love Indian…
I can take spicy food la, but not much into Malay cuisine with yellow yellow or green green. I can take curry, but not really “must have” or crave for it. Except, when i am pregnant, i am craving for curry mee hoon and nasi lemak, everyday, that time i like to take spicy food.
I go mamak to eat one la.
I still prefer jap, korean or western or chinese cuisine..kekekkee
I know…and I’m the opposite. 😉
Annie and Claire can be very friend friend lah. Hahaha.. Claire oso same… not too adventurous and loves those Chinese food. And quite rare to see Claire eat very spicy food too. But I know Claire loves to eat belacan, especially those veggies cooked with sambal belacan unlike Annie who dun take belacan at all. Kekekekeke!
Actually, sembang sembang in ur blog here very good leh… I get to know people’s makan habit. 😛 (well, yeah, they get to know mine too… lol!)
Ya…we all know you do not eat pork.
Wah, like that when I go back to Malaysia, nobody will give me any surprise party lar…*muka tembok Berlin*. I like belacan, spicy and not chinese…Cleffairy, take note!!
You tell me when you go, I go at the same time and when they invite me, you tumpang…tag along lah! Muahahahaha!!!
Aiyah..like that where got shiok..everybody layan you like king and I sit there like lamp post only.I also want ppl to layan me like celebrity,ma!!!
Open up your blog… I’m sure everybody would be flocking there for your recipes…and nobody would drop by mine anymore. Sobssss!!!! 😦
Fuyoo…let me know early early if u wanna come ah… I plan beforehand where to bawak u go makan! LOL.
Nah!!! I let everyone know early early, tak ada pun? Lucky thing, Annie arranged…
Neway, I sure hope that the kucing will come here with a full tummy. or she’d drool like mad over all these. i know she oso very gila roasted duck, and if u buy her a roasted duck, tulang oso she tak lepas… will make it into porridge!
That’s what they do with Peking Duck at the restaurants – eat the skin wrapped in the pancakes…and they use the meat and bones to cook other dishes and serve. I prefer the meat, eaten like this…no need to recook and ruin the taste. 😦
I also prefer to chomp chomp all the meat just like that…baru rasa like a true blue carnivore. LOL!
Except that you do not eat pork. 😦
Ya… pig lover. Used to make one of them my pet. LOL. Nah, actually intolerance towards it. makan only will cramp and lausai, just like when i makan tauge. Will feel very sakit. So dun take lor.
Strange. Never heard of any such things happening before… Intolerance of fat maybe…, too thin.
curry fish head!!! me likey…
but i have been eating fried and spicy stuff. these have definitely taken many tolls on my body T_T
Curry is supposed to be cooling – the deep fried stuff is heaty…like KFC and beef and lamb are heaty, so go for chicken…or if it’s beef or lamb/mutton curry, go slow on the meat…and drink lots of water – plain water!
No worries, annant. Just nurse on cooling drinks like coconut juice, cincau or chrysanthemum tea after u had all those spicy and fried stuff. Can also drink sea coconut and honey. It helps in reducing body heat and sore throat alot. 😀
Just drink lots of water (not cold/iced water), good enough.
Anything with curry no need to ask nice or not Bananaz sure to lupp one and those Nestum prawns oh lau nua liao btw along the way got nescafe prawns kah? hehe..~;).
Ya…Penang people love it hot…and spicy! 😉 Nescafe? You try lah… If nice, share in your blog for everyone to go and try too. LOL!!! 😀
RM190…very cheap! all my favourite dishes esp curry fish + sea cucumber.
Cheap eh? Much nicer than what I have had in KL or Penang for this kind of sit-down 8-course Chinese dinners and a whole lot cheaper too!
love the curry fish head!
Best in Sibu!
Normally i ll just go for the curry and not the head because of the bones. I have no patience eating fish with lots of bones…LOL! fillet will be just good.
Must get over the phobia for bones. My brother in law has this thing with fish bones…and it got so bad that these days he even chocked on chicken and duck bones. Had to go to see the ENT specialist a few times already…
Ahemm… Ling oso pandai make curries… her fish curry is out of this world wan worr… Claire makan-ed her curry before and Claire puji her curry to the skies! 😀
My missus one also tak kalah… 😉
Food glorious food!! But now give me dragon meat also no appetite..! What a time for me to have a food-turnoff now! Just in case I am not able to get connected during the next few days, here I am…wishing you and your family a MERRY CHRISTMAS AND GOD BLESS!!
What? Can’t get connected in Singapore? Impossible! Even in Sibu, there’s free wifi at a lot of places including some coffee shops even.
Still unwell, Claire? Nevermind la… maybe your tummy needs a rest, so just eat light food lorr… when feel better can makan alot again. 😀
No spring chicken anymore… Those marathons, badminton and all for young people one. An ex-colleague collapsed while playing and had to go for bypass… Hey! One Health Minister even died while playing badminton, right?
Claire must go for tai-chi instead. Tai chi is good for health. The movement slow slow wan, not like badminton, will make u sakit sana sini. 😦 Dun cakap Claire la… I oso can’t play badminton… sure half dead after play. I’m more into those light sports like swimming… those after do, not sakit wan… will feel more relaxed instead.
Must grow old gracefully lah… Can’t stay young forever. 😦
Ohh I love fish curry or anything curry n spicy! But I don’t understand, u mentioned u had dinner at your parents’ house? But you had to pay a bill? You guys ordered delivery? :p
Yup, we ordered the dishes from the restaurant and ate them together at home. My mum’s bedridden…so we can’t eat out anymore these days…but she can sit in a wheelchair for a while to dine with everybody on special occasions and times like this – she loves that a lot.
The sea cucumber and beef tendon dish looks good and that fish curry is killing me. Please, no more spicy food posts – it’s hard to get good curries here.
I think you’re safe until after the New Year… Oops!!! Oh no! There’s one coming up day after tomorrow…so make sure you drop by to drool, ok? Muahahahahahaha!!!! 😀
Poor Yoong…haihh… I think all of us are masochist… kena torture still comes back for more! LOL!
Ya…Chinese say no bed bug to bite oneself, catch one and get it to bite. LOL!!! 😀
RM 190 is very cheap lar,Arthur.Everything look absolutely delicious except the beef tendon…eeee..geli lar!! It is very nice to have your parents sama-sama makan…especially your sweet mom.
Sure is…and she loves company. So lonely, lying down by herself all the time, eating alone by herself…so when we get together like this, she loves it…and is always =more concerned that everyone else must eat some more…
now i’m hungry.. missed lunch because needed to rush home for an urgent blog post to be up today..
Can i have the prawns please?
Sure, help yourself. Muahahahaha!!!! Wah! So busy, I write for you lah…20% enough. LOL!!! 😀
hahaha 20%? … some no pay one wor. How much will 20% of RM0 be ar? .. hehe
Ummm…the free ones, you do yourself lah. Give me the lucrative ones. Muahahahaha!!!
Why everytime I come here, I always hungry one???? All my favourite dishes. Ok, got to log off and hunt for my dinner!! :p
Come back tomorrow…. No food, I promise! Cross my heart! LOL!!! 😀
Wow, the curry looked so thickly rich, me likey lots!!! Wooooooooooo
But how come the nestum prawns looked less-nestummy? wahahahaha
+Ant+
Yup! Not like what I had at the wedding reception in KL. They were buried under the cereal. Watch out for the post! 😉
the food looks good…the family that eats together gets fat together…hehe 🙂 it’s a nice bonding time with family 🙂
Indeed it is. Today many do not have time to do that anymore. Some, they eat in front of the tv…or they’re engrossed in their ipad while eating… Tragic, I must say! 😦
I agree 200% with your last sentence! Eating is just an excuse to get family members together to spend some time with each other. The next time you come to KL, I take you go eat the curry fish head that is near my home. Then, you tell me which is better:D
A good excuse at that definitely… Now, now! Why don;t you come to Sibu and try this one and then you tell me which is better? 😉 The lady boss is Indonesian and has her own secret recipe…
fuyoo the udang 🙂
Nice! Yum yum!!!
yeah good things are never cheap and cheap things are not good. heheh
Well, sometimes…but not all the time. 😉
