Wait so long…

This is a nice place to go for very nice food at affordable prices but I guess going on a Sunday was a bad mistake unless you’ve made prior reservations and ordered what you would like to eat earlier. I was there with my missus and Melissa over a week ago and we were lucky to be able to get a table. It was very crowded and extremely noisy – that is one reason why I do not really fancy eating at this particular restaurant.

Of course, Melissa wanted her favourite – their sizzling beef on a hot plate…

…and also their fried prawn balls served with their creamy salad dressing…

I think it is mayonnaise with a squeeze of lemon and other things that give it a nice and pleasant taste, a far cry from other places where they would just use plain mayo.

They make their own tofu here – very fine and smooth and this is their most popular way of cooking and serving it…

When eating here, it would come as no surprise that almost every table is having this same dish as well – I guess it’s one of their signature dishes.

We decided to try their long beans fried with belacanย (dried prawn paste) – something that we had not had before…

…and it turned out to be really very good.

The bill came up to about RM34.00 inclusive of rice and drinks for three which I must say was very cheap…but the long wait for the food to be served pissed me off somewhat. I think we had to sit there for about an hour before the first dish came. Thankfully, the food was great and that certainly helped make up for the suffering somewhat.

Well, time flies…and Melissa has been home for quite a while now. She made some scones once for tea and she also made these quiche…

…following Elin’s recipe.ย Instead of salmon, she used the SPAM (oven roasted turkey) that my NZ friend gave me way back then and the fragrance was not as strong and nice as real/smoked ham or bacon. Still, it was good and we all loved it!

Not to be outshone, the mum wanted to make lokan but the ones at the market were very small that day so she used scallops instead…

Of course, they were very nice…but considering the amount of work required, I wouldn’t be caught dead cooking that – no, thank you. LOL!!!

We’ll be flying over to Kuala Lumpur tomorrow for a few days and hopefully, we’ll get to eat some nice things there too. Watch out of the posts…

    1. Kl here very terrible lah….not to discourage u…but flash flood everywhere. Make me really feel scared u kno. Silap haribulan…keluar rumah kejap aje will kena trap in flood.

      Sigh!!! ๐Ÿ˜ฆ

  1. Wow.. and hour wait? My goodness, that is a long time.!

Everything looks so nice and colorful. I was getting ready to ask you whether the salad dressing was tangy, but I already see you answered my unasked question. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Yes, there were too many people and some big tables of 10 or more people. I think they cooked table by table…so they probably spent a long time cooking the many dishes to be served at those tables. At other places, if there are several tables ordering the same dish, they would cook in bulk so the wait would not be that long. I guess in this case, there may be a need to compromise on the taste… ๐Ÿ˜ฆ

  2. I always love fried tofu with lotsa veggies + mushrooms on top, very nice & healthy. Oh when you arrive KL, I’ll be off to the Lion city again ๐Ÿ˜‰

Oh? Have fun there. Hopefully the weather isn’t as wet as in KL… ๐Ÿ˜ฆ

  3. I like scones too but lazy to make. That’s the problem with me. I bake simple cakes and muffins occasionally. Whenever I see muffins sold outside, i would think, ‘So expensive. I can bake some myself’. Then lazy to bake and end up nothing to eat. Ha!

LOL!!! I’m like you. Must be our Foochow blood… But once in a while, I may buy even though expensive. I’ll console myself by saying that I will not be eating so much compared to when I make myself. ๐Ÿ˜‰

    1. I am not a Foochow, Hokkien actually but I think growing up in Foochow community has a great influence on Sibu people. Hubby thinks I am shrewd when making business decisions during our discussions and I will say, ‘Of course, I am born and grew up in Sibu.’

Oh? I thought Yi(i) and Ling all Foochows…but I guess they’re not your surname. My missus also not Foochow but born and bred here – can speak Foochow like a Foochow. I’m the disgraceful one… Speak Hokkien only even though Foochow. LOL!!!!

  4. Have a lovely time in KL, hope the weather will be fine during the weekend. Ciao.

Thanks. Do pray hard for good weather in KL over the next few days…

  5. I hope you’ll have a good time in KL. Would love to see you in KL but unfortunately I’ll be out of town. Take care

Aiyor…I go to town and everybody runs away kah? Muahahahahaha!!!! ๐Ÿ˜€

  6. The food looks nice. I like the look of the prawn balls !

And oh my, Melissa’s quiche looks mouth-watering !! Happy daddy you must be ๐Ÿ™‚

Yup, the food’s nice – one place worth dropping by when in town. Ya…she followed your mum’s recipe…of course nice lor! LOL!!! ๐Ÿ˜€

  7. So much delicious food for RM34.00?? Is there a wrong calculation? So you will be in KL tomorrow? Where are you staying? Any chance of us having a cup of tea together before you leave?

Ok, will text you when there. See when we can get to meet… Would love to meet you in person… ๐Ÿ™‚

  8. Oops, I forgot, I will not be back till Saturday. Aiyah, I will be back in KL Saturday afternoon so hope you are still in KL Saturday evening or Sunday.

Nights, all fully booked…but daytime, still available except lunch on Monday – also booked already. LOL!!! ๐Ÿ˜€ Leaving on Tuesday.

    1. MY GOD!! okay okay, I booked you and your family for Sunday lunch. Come pick you guys up at 11.00 and we go for an early lunch? My Quay Lo said if he recover from his cold by then, he will join us (he does not want to pass you guys the virus lah) but if not, I will be coming alone ๐Ÿ˜€

Ok, let me jot that down. Sunday lunch, no longer available for bookings. Muahahahaha!!! Looking forward to our date… ๐Ÿ˜‰

      1. Text me when you arrive KL. Will send you my handphone number via FB. Aiyoh, Forgot to ask if I need to pay to pay a 30% booking fees or not to ensure that no last minute cancellation. muahahahaha…. Now I laugh like you already!

Oh dear! Now everybody’s laughing like me – so contagious! Muahahahahaha!!!! Ya, I’ve got your hp number already – from your poslaju receipt. LOL!!! ๐Ÿ˜€ Ummm…no need for booking fees, your credit card number will do… ๐Ÿ˜‰

      2. hahhahahahha..Quay Po Cooks, you’re late. I booked him like two weeks ago???

Wah!!! This sound like booking China doll along Bukit Bintang… Oops! Muahahahaha!!!! ๐Ÿ˜€ But that one a lot easier, I’m sure… ๐Ÿ˜‰

      3. Walau…Annie, u booked him so long ago. Gee…guess me and Mamarazzi want to book him also susah la…sigh**

Saturday, lunch? Or just drop by in the morning… We’ll be in. Shops in KL open late.

  9. Did the waiter warn you first that you have to wait for that long? Normally if it takes that long, they will inform the customers first. Neway, glad to hear all the food turned out to be a good one! I personally like the tofu. Wow..ur girl did a great job. I think those quiche are fit for sale!

Nope, they did not say anything. Ya…normally, they will tell if one may have to wait a long time. Hmmm…maybe she can do that as a sideline – home-based business kind of thing? I can help to count the money. ๐Ÿ˜€

  10. What is an hour wait if the food is so yummilicious, man…the long beans must be very sedap..wink! wink!..and soooo cheap. I think if I live in Sibu, I will not be bothered to cook and I can be the 2nd SIBUTUAPUI..lol!
Mel can really cook..like her mom. Both dishes so mouth-watering. You must be a very happy man..ho!ho!ho!
Have a very pleasant time in KL and hope that all will go smoothly for you. Lucy and Mel ikut tak? Don’t forget to makan for me,ya ๐Ÿ™‚

Sure will. Hopefully the weather will be kind. Ya…now I goyang kaki, others cook, I eat… LOL!!! The long beans were great – would definitely order that again if you drop by…and I’ll make sure I make reservations and order the food way before hand.

  11. Lucky Daddy…Melissa will be a good cook and baker ๐Ÿ™‚ She did a good job on the quiche…looks yummy ! Please tell her that she did a great job on it . Love that scallop your Missus cooked…slurrrp..and thanks for the mention and link up :))) Have a nice trip to KL ๐Ÿ™‚

Thanks. Ya…follow your recipe mah. She made in NZ using salmon, same as yours and she said it was nicer… ๐Ÿ˜‰

  12. Thought a hungry man is an angry bird..*ooops kena bird fever already* angry man? To wait for an hour and bear with the noise for those extremely hungry would be a good test haha, unless there must be something very special about this Nice House Restaurant. Actually you gave us the answer its C&G, *Cheap and Good* or the Canto version PLC *pang lang chang* at RM34.00 inclusive of drinks and such nice food where to find?

No lah…I went for a walk to buy numbers – but unfortunately. no luck. No extra spending money when I go to KL… ๐Ÿ˜ฆ

  13. Wow! Going to KL again for its food? Lol! Enjoy yourself! Look forward to more food pics from you for me to drool! hehehe!

Nope, got wedding to attend…and sticking around for a few days – need a break. Hopefully, not stuck in hotel all the time… ๐Ÿ˜ฆ

  14. Wahh…all fully booked during the nights!! Wonder who have booked you in advance! So no time for older ladies like us.. hmmptt! Ok, guess we wont be able to meet this time.. maybe the right time will be in Sibu.. hehehe…
About the food.. gosh!! Only RM34 for the 4 dishes?? No wonder crowded.. anything cheap and nice, people will not mind waiting…

You will only be driving past, you said…so cannot date you anymore lah. ๐Ÿ˜ฆ

  15. oh man. the dishes looks gooooood. my aunt brought me around sibu to eat once and the food was good although im not too fond of the kompiah in gravy. i much prefer the dry ones. haha. and QUICHE ???? I love quiche. hehe. have fun in KL and i would recommend petaling street’s grill fish. ๐Ÿ™‚

Eyewwww!!! Petaling Street. Old man, once there, head spinning already…so crowded and noise… LOL!!! Ya, I think I’ve seen your sister’s posts on her visit to Sibu…

  16. Nice House! I still have not been there. Remember last year when i went there on Sunday night, like you said FULL HOUSE!!! No one entertain us. ๐Ÿ˜ฆ So we walk out and to another restaurant. ๐Ÿ˜ฆ

Oh..that sizzling beef look tender and juicy and nice. Yum yum!!!

Quiche that Mellisa made look so good and delicious! Can’t wait to meet her in person. ๐Ÿ™‚
    See you

Have a good and safe flight, and pray hard the weather be good!!! Hope you bring the sunshine over and rain rain go away.

Ok, so two places to take you on your next visit…MingMeiShi and Nice House…and ah yes, Noodle House too… Thanks, sure hope no delay, good weather and everything.
