I love a rainy night…

Ya…I love it when it rains at night but only when I’m at home sleeping. However, the other night, my missus was invited by an old friend of hers to her son’s wedding reception – and my daughter and I were not invited. Tsk! Tsk!

We decided not to cook dinner for ourselves that evening and went out instead…even though it was raining and it could get quite tedious but we managed somehow and headed to this place that I’ve featured in my blog a number of times before.

Nope, we did not have their burgers that they are most noted for and looking at the menu at the place, it certainly looks like spell-check’s AWOL…

…or it would have detected the spelling errors right away.

A mono-lingual waitress came to take our orders, no price for guessing what language she could speak. It wouldn’t be so bad if she knew a little bit about what they had in the menu – to every question, she just replied curtly, “I don’t know!” All she did was to wait for us to tell her the numbers in the menu for our orders which she jotted down to hand over to the chef…and she was not at all, in the least, pleasant or friendly. I really wonder if people like her were given any proper training or not prior to working at a place like this one. Tsk! Tsk! She even came back a while later to ask if I wanted ice in the big mug of cold water that I had ordered.

My daughter had their Green Forest (RM6.50)…

and of course, the waitress did not know what that was so we just had to take the risk and ordered – whatever it was, we were pretty sure that it would be…a drink. It turned out to be some kind of apple-flavoured drink which was fine as far as my daughter was concerned and as for what she wanted to eat that night,  she decided to try their breaded chicken (RM11.90)…

…but she did not think it was great, just o.k.  I tried a bit and felt it was in fact quite good – perhaps she did not like the strong taste or fragrance of the herbs used.

I had the baked macaroni cheese (RM13.90)…

…which was passable – not bad at all, I would say but I do wish that for the price they were charging, they had a sprinkling of turkey ham at  least, if not real (smoked) ham or bacon, and parmesan cheese on top…

…other than those miserable bits of carrot and mushroom.

All in all, however, we had a great time – the place was not crowded and the in-house music with the acoustic versions of some of the latest favourites was very pleasing to the ears. I went to the counter to pay the bill and when the boss saw me, he passed me these…

…complimentary ang pao packets. Angry Birds!!! I certainly would not give that to anybody come Chinese New Year when everyone’s supposed to be happy and not angry but I saw the guy at a table near ours paying his bill and there were at least six of them in the group plus they had a lot more to eat and I did not see him getting the free ang pao packets. Hehehehehehe!!!!

As we were leaving, a waiter standing by the entrance greeted me – in English, “Good evening, teacher!” He did not look familiar and I guess he sensed it so he quickly told me that he was a student in my former school, waiting for his SPM results and working there part time…and that he was in transition class in 2006. Good grief! That would mean that I never taught him and he was in Form One in the afternoon session (I was teaching in the morning) when I retired in 2007…and to think that after all these years, he could still remember that I was a teacher in his school? Hmmm…I really must work on making myself less conspicuous!

My daughter and I went straight home after that and on the whole, I must say that we did enjoy our father and daughter night out together…despite the rain.
