I’m Luke…

Nope, he’s not that Skywalker guy…but somebody who happened to drop by my blog not too longer ago to comment. It turned out that he’s actually somebody that I know, the son of a friend from way back when.ย Well, he’s studying in Perth, Australia at the moment and is back in town on holiday…and so was Bernard, my ex-student, from Canberra.

Bernard called me the morning of my birthday just to say hi but he did say that it would be fine if I had things planned for the day – we could get to meet some other time. Well, since I had nothing on around lunchtime that day, I suggested that we went out for a while. He told me that Luke was around and asked if I would like to ask him to come along. Of course, I said I would – I always love to meet my fellow-bloggers and commentors in person anytime anywhere, so there we were…

@ Payung with Luke & Bernard

…the three of us at Payung. I reckoned that since they’d just come back from overseas, they would prefer something Asean, something more exotic.

I ordered all my favourites that I felt they would love, like the belimbing prawns…

Payung's belimbing prawns

…and the otak-otak, for instance…

Payung's otak-otak

We also had the lamb masala

Payung's lamb masala

…and the mushroom roll…

Payung's mushroom roll

I thought the masalaย was good but I would prefer it with a bit more of those fragrant Indian spices.

They had something new on the menu – the titek and initially, I thought it was some kind of a duck dish, itek being duck in Malay but it turned out to be tapioca leaves with sweet potatoes…

Payung's titek

Ooooo…it was so very nice and I really loved it a lot. Actually, I’ve cooked this combination before but as a soup. Hmmm…I must try and cook it this way the first opportunity that I get.

Well, we had a great time – eating and chatting…or at least I did. It sure was nice to see you again, Bernard and I’m glad to have made the acquaintance, Luke – guess we’re no longer faceless names on blogosphere, eh?

  1. more blogger friends! wow, you’re really famous stp! Anybody who is anybody in the blogosphere will want to meet you.

Why we have only met once?! I demand more times. hehe

Where got famous? And where got many who would like to meet this nobody from this little town? They’re not bloggers lah, just an ex-student and an acquaintance I made via my blog. More times? Well, I’m waiting for you to come over to Sibu one of these days… ๐Ÿ˜‰

    1. wow, even ppl outside of the blogosphere love to meet up with you, now thats what i call awesome! if only i could walk to sibu ><

No need to walk. These days, everyone can fly…

  2. For a moment, I was expecting Luke, Leah, Han Solo and Darth Vader! LOL~!

Hah…only the older ones would know those Star Wars characters… ๐Ÿ˜‰

    1. I’m about ur age wud, so sure I know those characters! Love the Star Wars Saga to bits. Love those creature characters in Star Wars too… Chewbecca, Ewoks…and the robots, C3PO and R2D2!

LOL… I even know Indiana Jones and Crocodile Dundee leh! They are my hero! And Indiana Jones is still cool in my opinion! Wakakakaka… yea, I’m a big fan of Harrison ford! LOL…

      Dundee’s not Harrison Ford leh? I like Yoda…and R2D2!

    2. Heh heh!! What? Who?? Never heard of them! I’m soooo young, that’s why I haven’t come across all these characters!

Yalor…only ancient relics would be familiar with those. Muahahahaha!!!! ๐Ÿ˜€

  3. *Star Wars mode on!*

Darth Vader: Obi-Wan never told you what happened to your father.
    Luke
Skywalker: He told me enough! He told me you killed him!
Darth Vader: No. Luke, I am your father!
Luke Skywalker: NOOOOOOOOOO…. my father is dead!

Cleffairy: Wahahahahahahaahahahaha! I’m gonna go Star Wars marathon this wik. Lemme see where I put the dvd! LOL!

Never really a fan of the shows – not into sci-fi and space movies… I’d very much prefer…SUPERMAN! Muahahahaha!!!

  4. I think I am seeing double, Arthur.. both of them look alike to me! Perhaps I better put on my longsighted glasses and look nearer? LOL…
About the food… gosh.. I am not going to say that word again… the Capital D word!

Ya…I thought they look quite alike too… LOL!!! ๐Ÿ˜€

  5. all the food look so good! i would agree with cleff that you are well loved! next time must put warning first if you decide to post about prawn la….tsk3…left me drooling early in the morning.huhu

LOL!!! For a while, I thought you’re allergic. Many people cannot eat prawns… So kesian – they do not know what they’re missing.

  6. A truly happy combination ….. Meeting new friends and eating at the same time! The dishes look to die-for especially the belimbing prawns. I’m now trying to imagine how the dish tastes-like :s

    Happy Monday! ^^
    +Ant+

Don’t imagine. Catch a flight here…and you can get to eat this first hand. Come, everyone can fly… ๐Ÿ˜‰

  7. definitely a nice experience to meet up with other bloggers.. wow, that belimbing prawns looks so good!! in fact all other dishes also look good..

I would give top marks for everything about this place except the price – compared to other places, may be a bit more… 3 persons for all that with rice and drinks, around RM60…but I think it’s worth it.

  8. Nice food presentation! Clean, neat and simple. Check out the belimbing prawn! *salivating so early in the morning*

    A must-try if ever you’re in Sibu and I strongly recommend the otak-otak too…

  9. wow, the otak-otak looks appetising!!! though im not an otak-otak fan because in Penang, otak-otak is made soggy, which i dont really like ๐Ÿ˜›

Yes, I know a number of people who do not like the steamed mushy Penang ones with the egg custard. This one is nice – my favourite. Btw, your first time here? Welcome…and do drop by again. Will link you in my blogroll.

  10. Now, STP is the darling of blogosphere, loved by the men, women, young and old, seriously he is truly a darling to many of us…and I am sorry that have been missing coming here, sibuk lah, so now I am back…………….

First time seeing those tapioca leaves with sweet potatoes juga, i think it must be good when you said it was very good,,, so did you manage to see it through to see if you could dish up the same dish at home?

hey, take care now ya and have a great week ahead

Not yet. These days, missus cooking so I’ve become rather lazy…but I really want to try and cook that dish. Will blog on it if I finally get down to it. You too, take care and have a great week. Busy, never mind…money rolling in! ๐Ÿ˜‰

  11. Now Sibu seems to be the destination of everybody. Love the spread of food…..looks impressive. That mushroom roll looks interesting and something new to me. At one glance I thought it was popiah.

Definitely among my favourite dining joints in town – love the place, love the food, love the people… Nice place to dine and hang around but the food may be a bit too spicy for some people.

  12. How much? Portion looks a bit small. Only two prawns. How does the Belimbing prawns taste like? Sour and spicy or what?

Sour and spicy and fragrant. Very very nice… Not only two prawns lah! Some more inside… This is a classier place but at least better than at those high class restaurants where they serve you ONE prawn on a big plate, decorated with a multitude of sins…and make you pay through your teeth. Can’t remember the price of this one – you have to refer to my older posts… I think it is RM12 inclusive of rice…or perhaps, RM13.50 – not too sure.

  13. Arthurrrrrr…I don’t like you!! Baik untung I just had dinner and masak hitam was on the menu..hehehe. I like Payung a lot and I really think that that place has its own classiness and elegance and I really love their deco. We sat next to the table when we were there and all that you ordered were very delicious. The belimbing prawn gravy were so delicious and I think Lucy and I hirup until kering the kuah while the boys bukan main lagi makan the prawns. I who is not an otak-otak girl really enjoyed the otak-otak very much and it is the best otak-otak that I have tasted…even better than the Nyonya otak-otak/Muar otak-otak/Malay otak-otak. You will not be bombarded with all kinds of tumbuh-tumbuhan,rumput-rampai and what not in it and the taste is very subtle and not overwhelming…hard to describe lar…but very very moreish. Love it.The rest tu, you tak order pun for us..so bad lar you!!

Hear ye! Hear ye, all of you! Listen to someone who knows…and not just take my word for it. This is one place that is definitely worth dropping by when in town. What didn’t you have, Shereen? Can lah…the next time you come to Sibu, we will have those and all the rest… Hurry, hurry… All that yummy food is waiting. LOL!!!

    1. We had the first 2 but not the rest. But then, we had some other stuff like the salad and kerabu and of course you tapau-ed some masak hitam and sambal udang and petai from Bandung and the kind Payung boss let us makan them there…oh, and of course cannot be forgotten, the kind boss also let us try their fermented dabai which only the strong at heart can stand..hahaha…kesian Lucy!!

LOL!!! Ya…so save the rest for the next time you come to town. Like strip tease, show show a bit first…cannot lah show all one go! No more excitement. Muahahahahaha!!!! ๐Ÿ˜€

    2. I’m listening, I’m listening!! And making a list! And getting hungry now! We like spicy food so all those curries and assam stuff, aiyo, yum yum!! Wait till we come visit you, you won’t know what’s hit you, my little AW, muahahahaa! Muahahahaa…ok?!

No problem… Looking forward eagerly to that day… ๐Ÿ˜‰

  14. Look at that otak-otak! So huge! I’ve never seen such a huge one before, not that I’m a fan.. LOL! The food looks good.. very tasty and nice with rice ๐Ÿ™‚

The otak-otak here is completely different from others elsewhere. Everybody who has tried lives it – I’m sure you’d love it too…

  15. this post is for Cleff and Shereen? hahahhahah..their turn to drool.

You know me, i won’t drool at this, but food do look good.

The food is very nice. You must give it a try sometime when you come back – not really spicy… ๐Ÿ˜‰

  16. The belimbing prawns look very promising and unique! Payung has changed their menu a lot since I last visited, gotta go again. ๐Ÿ™‚

Yup! So when are you coming home again? I can take you there… ๐Ÿ˜‰

  17. Blogger get together thing huh? It is such small world, happen to be someone you know! ๐Ÿ™‚

No, Luke comments on my blog and Bernard’s my ex-student so it wasn’t really a blogger-get together thing. Ya, the world is definitely getting a lot smaller…

  18. Thanks again for lunch! The food at Payung was good, it was my second time there and I quite like the place. Definitely exotic and different from the usual hawker food we usually have.

Welcome, Luke. Ya…that’s one thing I like about the place too – they serve stuff that one cannot get anywhere else.

  19. Wow…you really now how to enjoy food!
Good choices, good food and good company (friends)
Truly enjoying myself reading your blog and feasting
my eyes on the delicious food ๐Ÿ™‚

Thanks for the compliment and thanks for dropping by. Welcome and do come again. I’ve added you in my blogroll. Ah well…I’ve got to enjoy as much as I can while I still can…and what better way than to do it with good friends/company. ๐Ÿ˜‰

  20. the last dish really looks nice. the colours (green, yellow, and everything in between) just blends perfectly. wonder how it tastes like… sarawak really has a lot of great dishes that we org semenanjung havent seen nor tasted b4!

Come on over and give it a try! I really liked it a lot. ๐Ÿ˜‰
