This is not for me…
– the acar rebung or pickled bamboo shoots. The last time I had a few slices, I ended up with a gout attack and I would not touch it anymore since then. However, my missus loves bamboo shoots so when I saw this being sold at my regular Bandong Malay food stall that day, I bought a ringgit for her. Yup! That cost only RM1.00. Cheap, eh?
I’ve tried acar limau (pickled calamansi lime) before but I did not really enjoy it so much. It tends to be a bit too sour and not to my liking…but I saw this at the stall that same day…
…and I bought a jar to try. It was only RM3.50 each and they also sold that pre-packed in plastic bags at RM2.00 each. I tried a bit and loved it a lot…
It was not sour, quite sweet, in fact…with a hint of the lime fragrance and sour taste.
I’m not really into sour things but I loved the acar timun (pickled cucumber) that my mother-in-law used to make with keropok (prawn crackers) or with rice…and these acar bunga durian (pickled durian flowers)…
*recycled pic*
…that an auntie of mine made for me. Hey! That reminds me! I think I saved a bit for my friend when she came over from New Zealand but I forgot to let her try when she was in town. It just completely slipped my mind. I suppose it must be sitting somewhere in the fridge still and I might as well eat all of it myself then… LOL!!!
