I’m here again…

I was hereย with Ivan when he came to town…and a few days later, last Sunday, to be exact, after the church service, I dropped by again with my missus for lunch.

This time around, I had the stewed pork rice (RM5.90)…

…which came with a few slices of stewed pork belly, some minced pork and green vegetables and half a hardboiled egg.

It tasted good and was substantial enough for a light lunch.

My missus tried their Zhajiang Mian (RM6.00)…

…which looked like they used the same ingredients – the pork belly and the minced meat but this one had some thinly slices raw veg and sweet corn…

She said it was nice but I was not quite accustomed to seeing sweet corn in a noodle dish like this.

I also ordered their red bean ice cream (RM5.20)…

…but I was not too thrilled by it. I think the Horlicks Godzilla that Ivan had the other day was nicer.

Incidentally, I saw a sign at the place regarding some promotion going on at around tea time each day when the prices of some of the things would be slashed drastically. You can have the red bean ice cream or their Milo Godzilla, for instance, for only RM2.90. That certainly is very cheap, don’t you think?

There are many things on the menu that I have not tried yet, so I guess I will be going back there again some time…

  1. Stewed pork rice looks good, my tummy rumbling now!

    It’s nice…but I would love a little bit more gravy – drown the rice in it. ๐Ÿ˜‰

  2. The rice set certainly look nice..but how to eat rice in a bowl with fork and spoon leh? Lucy’s noodle set also look nice but the corn is a bit weird lar for me..hehehe. After coming back from our holidays…everything seems a bit flat…even the food here not nice already. So far, our nicest meal is the mee daddy…huhuhu….I miss Sibu!!!

    Ya…I thought that was kind of strange too but thank goodness for the fork and spoon. I would not be able to manage rice with chopsticks. LOL!!! See! I thought the corn looked strangely out of place too – not the usual condiment one would expect for noodles. Hahhhhh!!!! Come, come to Sibu again…. I guess you have not fried your ikan masin terubok yet? Yumssss!!!! Forget the US, nothing there that’s as nice as here. Oops…sorry, Gert! Muahahahahaha!!!! ๐Ÿ˜€

  3. Both dishes looks good ๐Ÿ™‚ I miss Zhajiang Mian. Havent eaten that for ages. Sweet corn with zhajiang mian? That’s weird… I never like red bean. I would rather go for Horlick or milo any day.

    I love red bean but I love it thick and mushy. Thomson Corner has got very nice red bean shake… Ummmm…what’s zha jiang mian? First time I’ve heard of it and seen it…

    1. My parents introduced it to me in my high school years and I love it since then. There used to be a kampua stall near my dad’s office selling zhajiang mien. Unfortunately, the coffee shop closed down and I have no idea where he moved. I had to google to explain to you what it is cause I don’t know (I only know how to eat wahaha).. It’s a northern china delicacy. Normally cooked with bean paste, minced meat and shreds of cucumber.

      Ok…it certainly sounds like that, more or less, except for the sweet corn kernels. Oh? You googled eh? Hmmmmm….LOL!!! ๐Ÿ˜€

  4. Though both looks perfectly nice, I still opt for the Zhajiang Mian cos I am a mee person. Yes, I agree with you that the sweet corn is a bit out of place in that plate of mee. It would be much better with a complementary sweet corn soup. What say you?

    Ya…wouldn’t make much of a difference without the sweet corn kernels.

    1. LOL… i miss nothing lo… kakaka… cuz everytime take pork, no matter which part, stomach cannot tolerate… I will vomit kao kao or lausai. ๐Ÿ˜ฆ My anak oso same with me, so we never take. LOL.

        Actually I thought of pounding some for dinner tonight and boil some pork to eat with that. Best lah! In the end, malas…so tak ada lah! My missus did fry our own-grown kangkong with belacan though… Finished in one sitting. Yummmmm!!!!

    I’m still waiting…and waiting… When are you coming to Sibu? Come! Hari Raya Haji’s on a Sunday…Monday’s a holiday – come on Saturday early morning…or Friday night…and go back Monday evening 6 something flight… Or Awal Muaharram 27th Nov also a Sunday. Log in and check airfares.

      Makes no difference to me. I’m on holiday 24/7/365…and getting paid every month. Hehehehehe!!!! ๐Ÿ˜€ So many holidays but too bad that everytime there’s a holiday, I see people taking off to Bali, Thailand, Hongkong….and where but Sibu! Nobody wants to come here. Well, it’s their loss, right or not, Shereen? They do not know what they’re missing! ๐Ÿ˜‰

  11. Gosh the thick layer of fat looks heavenly!! Lolz You would now know that I’m not one of those health-conscious picky eaters who discard chicken and pork skin mwahahaha!

  12. I have never see corn ih zhaijiang mian. I love zhaijiang mian and I love stew pork rice with extra eggs. I would also like to try the Horlicks Godzilla if I am in Sibu. It has been ages I last had a cup of Horlick. Catching up on all your posts are truly a torture man. You showcase so many yummilicious food. Can see cannot eat lah. LOL!

    Can always plan a trip to Sibu…and you’ll never look at this small little town the same way again – Shereen’s back in Auckland and is missing Sibu so much…especially the food.

  13. i think they are too stingy on the slices of pork belly. That’s too little. I would have expected a few more slices for that price.

    Look on the bright side – I shouldn’t eat too much of that…and on the whole, it was very nice, so ok lah… No complaint.

    Ya wor, i agree with others, the slices of pork belly so so little, let me count, it’s like 4-5 slices only?? tsk tsk tsk

    Zhajiang mien, look so different. They should have more sauce and mince meat, and i think no vege for this noodle. Hmmmm..i don’t like my rice or noodle got sweet corn. Not a corn person, but i like corn soup. hahahahhahahha

    I’m ok with corn…but not frozen peas – these days, they’re as hard as stones!!! I googled – they do have sliced cucumber strips with this type of noodles, it seems…and they do have that here…except that they have the sweet corn – maybe the people at this place think it looks nicer – adds more colour to the dish. Otherwise, quite dull. Ya…I would have loved a lot more pork belly…but not good for me lah – be thankful they only gave a few slices. LOL!!!
