Would you believe…

Would you believe that my friend via blogging came all the way from Auckland, New Zealand with her family for a visit?

She bought me these puffs and pies from some place named Polar at Changi Airport…

Polar puffs & pies 1

I tried one but it was cold…

Polar puffs & pies 2

…so I decided to keep the rest in the fridge to heat up in the oven later to eat.

And that was not all that she gave me. Despite my telling her again and again to just come to Sibu and not to bother about buying anything, she brought me these all the way from New Zealand…

Goodies from NZ 1

…which are available here but at much higher prices.

These are available too…

Goodies from NZ 2

…the Arnott’s biscuits…and the Walkers’ Scottish shortbread but one would have to pay through one’s nose to buy some here (and I’m sure they’re not very much cheaper there either)…

…and if you think that was all, think again! There were these as well…

Goodies from NZ 3

…and wait a minute! There were more! She insisted on getting me this Nike t-shirt…

…and LOOK!!! Look at what she bought me as well…

All Blacks' jersey

Eat your hearts out, guys! I’ve the official All Blacks’ World Cup Rugby jersey!!! And don’t ask me how much that cost! I almost fainted, I tell you! Thankfully, it fits me like a glove…and now, I can start learning how to do the Haka so I would look like one of them…with muscles at all the wrong places. Muahahahahaha!!!!!

I really felt so bad that she spent so much to get me all these…and to make things worse, she would not let me buy anything for her – insisting on paying for all that I’ve bought for her to take home to New Zealand (and that woman would not take no for an answer)…and neither would she let me pay for anything whenever we went out to eat…but eat, she did when she was in town.

She was amazed by everything here – the Sibu Central Market which is the largest in Malaysia (We spent hours there!), the huge mansions all over the town and of course, she loved the food. She was head over heels delighted by the nasi kerabu that I tapaoed for her and she loved the pian sip…and the kampua noodles at Rasa Sayang (She liked it so much that she ordered a second helping), the kompia, the Sarawak laksa…and when I took her to Ruby, she and her family loved everything to bits and they literally licked the plates clean – not even a drop of the delicious gravy was left on any of the plates, believe it or not!

I certainly hope that they all had a wonderful stay in Sibu…and I certainly would love to have them come and visit again some day – minus all the goodies, of course. Honestly, I enjoy company. I love having visitors and I love entertaining – so if anybody is keen on dropping by, please feel free to do so…and for heaven’s sake, DON’T BUY ANYTHING, PLEASE!

  1. That is Shereen, alright. Very generous woman! Where is the Tim Tam cookies? That is one of my fav cookies and she always mail me loads of it. Glad that she enjoyed all the food there and also your company. Hope I can do the same for her when she comes here 🙂

Tim Tam? We’ve got lots here. I took Shereen to a shop in town…and she said, “Aiyor! So malu lah! I went and bought all the things that I thought would not be available in Sibu…and now, I see ALL of them here! Good thing I did not buy the Tim Tams!” Muahahahahahaha!!!! This is Sibu, you know! Don’t play-play one! Yes, she is so very generous – really feel so uneasy as usually I would be the one buying and treating. Would insist on paying…even for the things I bought for her. Sigh!!!

P.S. Justyne bought Oreos with peanut here – said it’s not available in NZ! See…. Sibu, real terror lah! Hahahahaha!!!!! 😀

    1. I thought the Tim Tam in Malaysia is made in Indonesia. I want the one made in Australia 🙂 Ok I know what to get for Justyn. Oreos with peanut butter 🙂

Those are the ones that you can buy at the supermarkets and mini-marts…but we have this shop here that sells a lot of imported goods including Tim Tams from Australia. The best part is after conversion, the things may be cheaper than in the country of origin or more or less the same…or at times just a couple of ringgit more. Still, I would not buy most of the time – too expensive for old retirees like me… So, this Shereen is really heaven sent! 😉

  2. Hahaha.. This post made me laugh..Everything sounds so exciting!! Now I can’t wait to be in Sibu again! Still a few months to go 🙂

This is just the first one… More to come! 😉

  3. wow..when is she coming to IPOH? LOL… indeed she and her family must be enjoying your great hospitality… what good comes around..
Giving you so much, we the pre-visitors to Sibu also must start counting what to give you.. hahahahaa…..

LOL!!! Exactly what I told her – I said that after this, nobody would want to come and visit me anymore…and she said good, and everybody would invite her to visit them instead. Tsk! Tsk! 😀

    1. *golek golek* I would feel scared if she bombed me with so much spam. If wanna visit me dun bring anything la… >.< paiseh.

…and you don’t eat pork some more. I think she bought all those thinking that we do not have them in Sibu… Mana tahu, Sibu so hebat one! LOL!!! 😀

  4. cute a cute name, SPAM..

It is that! Spam! The unwanted parts of the pig after the rest of the body has been used to make other products – they use those to make SPAM! Not very flattering…but many people love it! I guess it’s the same as how many people simply love buntut ayam or chicken necks and claws. LOL!!! 😀

  5. Wow, a Spam collection! 🙂
Nice, I love the All Black’s World Cup jersey, it looks great!
Yeah, really nice of her to bring all that stuff.
I remember the ANZAC biscuits. I buy it before ANZAC day when I was in uni too. Also available in Australia. 🙂

Hah!!! Too bad you’re not XXXL or I could sell it to you. 😉 Yes, it was so sweet of her. I have not eaten anything other than the pies and puffs – wanna save till my girl comes home and we can enjoy all of these together. Great papa hor? 😉

    1. Arthur,XXXL is just nice for me. Wanna sell it to me?

LOL!!! No, my good friend gave me one.,..sampai hati, go and jual meh? Hehehehehe!!!! 😀

  6. Wah! You’re much sayang-ed, eh, Mr STP? Should we drop by Sibu or you to Perth, must make sure we also sayang you as much 🙂 I have some catching up to do (reading your posts) coz been quite busy. Do I remember correctly that Julia also lives in Perth? If so, I wonder if I could ask her to bring something over to you when she visits Sibu? [Hi Julia – I may have already met you at some of the restaurants here, without knowing 🙂 Like you, I enjoy reading STP’s posts 🙂 ]

    Enjoy your goodies, AW 🙂

I’m sure I will. Well, what I can do is to send your email address to Julia and she can get in touch with you IF she wants… 😉

    1. Hellloooo 🙂 I’m sure I’m the Julia you’re referring to. Will be more than happy to deliver your goodies to Mr. STP.

Ok, will email you her email address soonest. Really busy these few days. Shereen and family just left and another one arrived last night…and another one has been here since last week and I have not had the chance to go out to makan with him yet. Hope to do so soon… 😉

      1. Thanks, Julia, much appreciated. Let’s hope that our social butterfly STP will be able to visit Perth soon…and bring us lots of Sibu goodies 🙂

Hahahahaha!!! As long as not Madame Butterfly, ok lah… 😉

      2. Quite difficult to bring food into Perth. It depends on the immigration officer. Some are quite lenient.. My dad tried to bring in kampua (those in packagings).. that got confiscated :((

Factory-packed commercially-produced stuff usually ok… Noodles contain egg, so not allowed. Mee sua white in colour, no egg so it is ok.

  7. Wow, you are one lucky man! And I agree, Shereen is a very, very generous person. Oooh….I love those chocolates and shortbreads. I remember buying the Walker ones from a warehouse sale long time ago, and at that time punya price, I already consider expensive, but what to do, sometimes, have to enjoy the money a bit by buying something I fancy. At least I know I have bought the ‘expensive’ thing at a lower than retail price….hehehe.

Yes, we have Walkers here too – over RM10 even for a very small pack. Too expensive… If I have a craving for Scottish shortbread, I would buy Mcvities – around RM6 or 7 here, not as expensive and also very nice.

  8. Do upload the video of your haka dance to Facebook..Ahaha

Namind! When you come home for the holidays, I will give you an exclusive live performance…but do watch out for the tongue! Lick! Lick! Muahahahahahaha!!!!! 😀

  9. I went to Rasa Sayang after reading your post this morning. Indeed the kampua is good and I will give it a 9 out of 10 . I used to “worry” about my breakfast during my off day here:) and your blog is my guide now. So keep posting…
BTW,where exactly is this Soon Hock coffee shop?

Soon Hock is in the area behind Delta Mall – same block as Chopsticks’ Chicken Rice facing the Methodist church (right now under construction) – at the corner of the block opposite a photostating shop.

  10. That All Blacks’ WC jersey is definitely pricey! Each time we entered a sports shop when we were there recently, lo kong would check it out only to leave without buying it. In the end he bought a NZ WRC 2011 cap … better than nothing since we right there in the hype of the games.

Btw, when can I drop by to Sibu to have a taste of your hospitality? 😀

Anytime! Just let me know when you’re coming… If you ask Shereen, she will tell you that Sibu is a great place to visit, better than anywhere else in Malaysia. For one thing, STP’s here and that makes a world of difference! LOL!!! 😉

  11. Wow!…received so much goodies. Guess Shereen and her family enjoy all the good food in Sibu and what more to say, good company, hehehe. Arthur, slow, slow enjoy eating all the nice goodies.

Of course! Must eat slowly, very very slowly… Dunno where the next supply will come from. Hint! Hint! Muahahahahaha!!!! 😀

    1. Don’t worry, next supply coming soon. You have all the luck…..LOL!!!…..

      Where? Where? You’re coming?

  12. So much food! Arnotts! Ham! absolutely a friend sent from heaven! And All-Blacks jersey! i must make her acquaintance. LOL

Shereen!!! Here’s one more! She also wants to be your friend… Muhahahahaha!!!! 😀

  13. Wow Shereen is indeed a generous person. Loving kindness begets loving kindness perhaps?! ^^

Spam, total yumz. Expensive here too at more than rm10 per can.
    +Ant+

Yes, such a wonderful lady! I’m so blessed to have friends like her…and imagine that we got to meet through blogging! So nice! Here, a can of SPAM is around RM15.00.

  14. Wow Wow Wow….so much goodies from Shereen. Tsk tsk tsk tsk.

Spam, short bread and chocolate, all yum yum!!! Now we should see got some more new menu from you, since you got so many SPAM. hahahhahah

Ah, i just about to ask, did you bring her to Sibu Central Market.

Wait! Wait! See what I can do with all that SPAM… I think there’ll be more details in tomorrow’s post…

  15. Wow what a generous lady!! I want a picture of you in the All Blacks jersey please! 😛 And a video of you doing Haka if possible Haha

Hah!!! You’ll have to come to Sibu and I’ll stage a special live performance just for you… Ummmm…ok lah. Saucer can watch too! LOL!!!! 😀

  16. Aiya can pretend not to have visited this entry? Or pretend cannot remember what Shereen brought from NZ? She brought almost half a container and if Bananaz just bring along a packet or two Ghee Hiang biscuits aiyo paiseh man. hahaha. Lupp the All Blacks T.

Haiyar…come on over, no need to buy anything lah! But I think this one is old tradition especially among peranakans – we do that in the family too. When I go KL or Penang, I would bring one big box of goodies too…but there, I have so many friends, so in the end, each person will get sikit only lor… 😉

  17. how much luggage Shereen brought..? :p

Just two…and those stuff filled one at least…and when she left, she filled it up and had to get a big box for all the things she bought. 😉

  18. food and blog do connect people huh? 🙂 May I ask, so you’re saying she’s just a friend of yours through blogs, not relatives nor friends of daughter?fled to sibu with u as the sole acquaintance and host? how long has she planned the trip?

That’s right. My blogger-friend. Dunno when exactly she decided to come but she had been longing to come over ever since she stumbled upon my blog…probably sometime last year. Since then, we also keep in touch via sms and phonecalls…and she offered to help while Melissa was on transit in Auckland…and did more than just getting her from the international terminal to the domestic airport – I put up a post on that. No worries – when we make friends in blogosphere, we exchange personal info and details, photographs and everything…and get to know one another a lot better than being just a name in a comment on a post…

  19. Okay, I promise I will not bring a load of things to visit you in Sibu but will you promise not to load me with a lot of things from Sibu when I return home? I would love to come to Sibu with my Mum someday. I think just to eat will be worth the trip.

Welcome. Ask Shereen… She’ll tell you that Sibu has a lot more to offer than just food…and best of all, it has STP!!! LOL!!! 😀

  20. lots of goodies! nice…the challenge is to create some new dish from all those spam 🙂

I’d probably just make spam sandwiches, spam pies, spam omelette…

  21. wah wah wah… show us a picture of u in that rugby jersey Arthur! Shereen is one generous blogger friend! Droolingat the tidbits… @_@

Yes,so very generous. Not just shy to accept, so very shocked when she took everything out. Almost pengsan.

  22. OMG… you kena SPAMMED! LOL!!! But this kind of spam, anytime la, rite? Ish… if Shereeen came and visit me with all of these stuff, I would be extremely paiseh and wouldn’t know what to get her in return. You know… I always believe in giving out buah tangan if ppl comes to visit. If orang kasi this much to me… I sure pening like hell =.= how la… so paiseh. =.=

That is why – so the very paiseh! Even when I wanted to buy things, or when we went out to eat…want to merebut2 pay one! She just would not let me pay for anything…so had to curi2 to pay a bit here and a bit there. Wanted to balas budi also so hard… That is very Foochow-ish,,,merebut bayar (sometimes pretend only…hehehehehe) – I thought ang moh not like that one. 😦

  23. Neway… if Shereen wanna visit me in KL… need to let me know a few mth beforehand so that can sumbat her more barang. >.<iii Scary la… she play Santa pulak when visit ppl!

I was having nightmares – lost the itinerary…when to go where to go and what to eat! LOL!!!! Was a bit behind “schedule” when they were here – did not eat or see all there is in Sibu. Must stay a week at least – can even go to the nearby towns like Kanowit or Sarikei and Bintangor…

  24. Wow, banyaknya “SPAM”! Shereen is certainly very generous and thoughtful 🙂 Glad she and her family had a wonderful time, especially with you and your missus playing the perfect hosts!

I was so very worried that they might think that they’ve wasted their time, energy and money detouring to Sibu…but in the end, I’m glad that they had no regrets doing that. They loved it here, or so they said. Phewww!!!!!
