I got up early one morning the other day and opened the fridge. I saw two small packets of yellow noodles and I thought I could try using them to fry some mee mamak. After all, I’ve been eating that here, there and everywhere…and everyone seemed to make it sound so easy – just use chili sauce, just add tomato sauce…bla…bla…bla… Thus, I thought there wouldn’t be a problem.
These were the ingredients I used:
3 cloves garlic, peeled sliced
1 shallot, peeled and sliced
1 tablespoon chili sauce
1 tablespoon tomato sauce
1 tablespoon light soy sauce
1 tablespoon dark soy sauce
Half a tablespoon sugar
Some fish balls
I could not find any green veg or fresh tomatoes or chilies, spring onions…or anything else in the fridge that I could use so I had to make do without anything else and this was the end result…
I tossed the noodles in all the sauces and sugar first and then, I fried the garlic and onions in a bit of oil before I threw in the prawns and fish balls. After that, I added the noodles and stir fried till everything was mixed together well and lastly, I added the eggs. Once the eggs were sufficiently cooked, I dished it all out and served…
My missus got up and sat down to eat it for breakfast…but she said it was not like mee mamak. Whatever! At least, it tasted good enough so never mind that it was not like what it was intended to be – it certainly was nice enough for an enjoyable breakfast.
