Sometime ago, my niece and her boyfriend then, now her fiance, went to New York on a holiday and in a horse-drawn carriage, he proposed for her hand in marriage. Now, isn’t that so absolutely sweet? So romantic, don’t you think?

Well, my missus and I were in a horse-drawn carriage once…

Horse carriage ride

…and romantic would be the last word I would describe the experience.

As you can see in the photograph, it was not very spacious and I was already spilling out of the seat. Thank goodness I was a bit smaller then – if I were to go today, there would not be any space left for my missus and the poor woman would have to trot from behind to keep up with me and the horse. Muahahahahaha!!!!

Well, we went along some narrow and bumpy paths that were quite steep at certain places and I guess it must have been quite a struggle for the poor horse. I don’t know whether it was because of the ordeal it had to go through or whether it had a bit too much to eat for breakfast that morning, but as it pulled the carriage along, its poo started coming out of its you-know-where and littered the whole trail. Eyewwwww…and the stench!

I’m sure all of you would agree that romantic would be the last word anyone would use to describe that ride in a horse-drawn carriage. LOL!!!

Now, perhaps some of you may be wondering where on earth all that took place so how about a little competition? Whoever can guess the place correctly will get a prize…but if there are more than one of you, then the winner will be picked according to how specific the answer is or by lucky draw. How about it? Let’s have some fun – shoot away…

    1. Tsk… I’ll try… for the heck of it… but I know I’m always bad at guessing game.

It was in Gunung Jerai mountain top (Kedah there). I use to ride carriages over there in Gunung Jerai, but I can be wrong. There’s plenty places like this in Malaysia.

Your answer is…..incorrect, sorry! Muahahahaha!!!! Never been up Gunung Jerai even though though I’ve been to SP a few times.

      1. See… I know oredi… bad at guessing! LOL!

Don’t give up. Try and try again… How many times did Edison try before he invented the light bulb? LOL!!! ๐Ÿ˜€

  1. Narrow and bumpy path, that’s all makes it all so beautiful, right? you and missus look so nice in that “nostalgic” photo, me and my missus no horse ride before leh…

My pick or guess is Melaka…

Oh? You and missus no horse ride kah? Muahahahahahaha!!!!! ๐Ÿ˜€ Nope, not Malacca. Malacca, kereta lembu…where got kereta kuda? LOL!!! ๐Ÿ˜€

  2. Tasik Titiwangsa. Coz i know there is still pony ride with carriage.

There got narrow and bumpy paths? LOL!!! I think I will refrain from saying whether one is right or wrong. Let everybody guess and then I will reveal the correct answer in another post later in the week. Gee! This is fun! ๐Ÿ˜‰

    1. Titiwangsa is out. Titiwangsa has no narrow path, and Titiwangsa duzzin even has a stable yet in 1986. This is a hilltop.

Ok, Titiwangsa, you’re out! Muahahahahahaha!!!! ๐Ÿ˜€

    1. wei … .I guessed it correct didn’t I ? Guessed correct first.. but I didn’t state Berastagi. I don’t know exactly coz I’ve never been to Lake Toba or Indonesia but the look and feel of yr photo is definitely Lake Toba. Ain’t I clever ??

Ya, memang clever… Too bad not specific enough to win. Hehehehehe!!!! ๐Ÿ˜€

  3. Wohooo…that’s so sweet of you n r lovely wife back then. Hmmm….not too sure where is…somewhere up the mountain? Fraser Hill….hahahhah.. .

    Oh? Two guesses for Fraser’s already… ๐Ÿ™‚

  4. Lovely couple….Ahem…ahem!…my guess is in Thailand. Wish me “Good Luck”, hahaha!!!….

    Thailand? Hmmmmm….maybe, maybe…. LOL!!! ๐Ÿ˜€

    1. Hmmm…your prize for guessing correct, KOMPIA or KAMPUA, LOL!!!!…..

Depends. Kompia, maybe can send – dijamin sampai hari esok so will still be good. LOL!!!

      1. It seems that the 3 “Tan” have the same place in mind. Me, Issac Tan & Henry Tan.
Wish all the “Tan” good luck.

LOL!!! Later, all chee-Tan = egg or kosong/zero…. Muahahahahaha!!!!! ๐Ÿ˜€

    1. Another lie told by my parents and I believed it each time I saw a rainbow. >.< so easy kena tipu.

It’s an English thing – maybe it means something like the silver lining in every cloud, the sunshine after the rain.

  5. I’ll give this a shot. The background looked like a highland resort and the people around you looked like Indonesia. Back then I think Bali isn’t that popular yet but Lake Toba was the hype. I’ll go for Lake Toba, Medan in Indonesia. What say you? Got chance ar???

Patience! Wait till my post on Friday – I’ll reveal the answer then. Hehehehehe!!!! ๐Ÿ˜‰

  6. you look slim here…hehe…

the place looks cold i’m guessing china ๐Ÿ™‚

That was 25 years ago. Yeah…it was a nice cool place, I loved it! ๐Ÿ™‚

  7. Looks like somewhere in Medan…. if not mistaken..hahaha… Been there once.. Near the Lake Toba… Brastagi….
hey, your wife looks so glamourous!!

Me leh? No nice comment meh? Hunky perhaps? Muahahahahaha!!!! ๐Ÿ˜€

  8. Lake Toba or Fraser’s. Heheehe!

Well, you do look smaller size then. Could it be you that cause the horse to poo all the way? Muahahahahahaha!

Wah! TWO guesses kah? Muahahahahaha!!!! Ya…I guess it was because of me. Try me now …it will be a lot worse. ๐Ÿ˜€

  9. You certainly look slimmer back then ๐Ÿ™‚
Romantic or not, doesn’t matter, lah. Your missus’ expression says it all – she’s most happy being next to you!
Hhhmm, competition, huh. What’s the prize? A free ride on the horse drawn carriage at the same location? An all expense paid trip to Sibu?
OK, I hantam, lah…. based on the pic, looks like a cool place, the other people look dark skinned…. how about Medan/Lake Toba.

Ok….no specific place there? What prize you want? No need for competition, come to Sibu – all free one…but you have to get your own air ticket. Grab Air Asia’s zero fare… ๐Ÿ˜‰

    1. Aiyo, cannot give specific place ๐Ÿ˜ฆ It has been so many years I was in Medan/Lake Toba…banyak nama sudah lupa…
Only need to get air ticket to Sibu and all expenses paid? Wow, an irresistible offer worth considering….hehe

I keep telling everybody – just come! I’ll pick at airport, can stay at my house…and I’ll take around to places of interest (= eating places)…and send back to airport – all free…but nobody wants to come. ๐Ÿ˜ฆ So many years? I went in 1986 – I’m sure you can’t beat that. LOL!!!

  10. Erkk.. i can not guess… Ni zaman ke berapa ni bro? He he he.. Anyway, enjoy your funny & “romantic” story. Snd my regrds to yr missus. Have a blessed Sunday!

Same to you. This was way back in 1986…a long, long time ago. LOL!!! ๐Ÿ˜€

  11. so romantic!! โค and so many people commenting there!! hahaha i give up ler. :p

Yalor…not only you know how to be romantic mah! Tak mahu kalah! Muahahahahaha!!!!! Ya…not bad for a Sunday hor – so many comments. LOL!!! ๐Ÿ˜€

  12. 1986!! wah, you look very cool with the shades back then! ๐Ÿ™‚

LOL, the settings were supposed to be romantic. Should whack the horse for “poo”ing..

Let me put a wild guess, it’s somewhere near northern Malaysia? Perak or Thailand.. Just a wild guess ๐Ÿ™‚

Of course mah!!! That time young and trendy – mestilah bergaya sikit. Now old already, where got same? Muahahahahaha!!!! Wah…so many guesses kah? Choose wife – can choose one only tau!!! Cannot have either or…or eeny meeny mini moe! LOL!!! ๐Ÿ˜€

  13. My answer is the same as Kathy…Fraser Hill.. This place is weather must be cold else u normally won’t wear any jacket or sweater…that’s the place that I think of now..

Fraser’s Hill cold kah? Cameron quite cold… Next time, you take me up to Fraser’s, can? ๐Ÿ˜‰ LOL!!!

    1. *this place the weather must cold!!

Last time, not so fat…sikit cold, already tak tahan. Now, no problem…. Hahahahaha!!!!

  14. i was thinking gunung jerai too! but then i saw the comments above ad. =x
next guess probably would be thailand, but specifically? no idea. =X

Hahahahaha!!! Sometimes it pays to be a little late. Thailand? North, south, east, west? ๐Ÿ˜‰

    1. Yea, Henry. I thought it was Gunung Jerai cuz Gunung Jerai also have horse ride and carriage rides… and usually it’s operated in the morning, from 9am-12pm. But since not Gunung Jerai…. zzzzzz~

Hmmmm… time, I go SP, much try and go up Gunung Jerai then. Hopefully, it’s worth the effort.

  15. This place must be at a hill top. If not Gunung Jerai, den it’s Fraser Hill? I know Fraser Hill got horse carriages too. Definitely not in Titiwangsa, cuz that year you went, Titiwangsa duzzin have a stable yet.

Titiwangsa? I thought that’s a range – where Genting, Cameron all are located…. Fraser’s Hill not in Titiwangsa? Forgotten my Geography already… ๐Ÿ˜ฆ

  16. Your missus zee one attractive lady loh!! And, Mr STP, I loooove your handbag – colour suits you, heh heh!!!!

Of course lah! If ugly, you think I wanted to marry her kah? Muahahahahaha!!!! What handbag? Travelling bag lah…easy to throw everything inside – camera, Walkman, foldable umbrellas, drinks, snacks…….

  17. Wah Arthur, you were so young then!! so now, you have to occupy one whole carriage by yourself?!!! haha

Oh no…you don’t have to rub it in. Sobsssss!!!!! ๐Ÿ˜ฆ

  18. Hrm… I hv nvr see this place b4, and I don’t wanna copy other’s answer too, lol… guess just wish everyone good luck!^^

Wah! Honesty is the best policy. LOL!!! ๐Ÿ˜€

  19. we used to have lots of that in our country we called them “karitela” so I guess it’s from Philippines.. haha

Horse carriages? Yes, even in Manila, right in the heart of the city. But the attraction in the Philippines would be the jeepneys…

  20. OK, OK….not handbag – but I still think the bag suits you leh ๐Ÿ™‚

My wild guess – somewhere in Kuching. Doesn’t look like a Philippines carriage – not ornately decorated!

Nah!!! The one we went on in Manila was black, not elaborately decorated like their jeepneys. Can’t find the photo…dunno where I put it already.

  21. No answer yet? hmmmmm…..

Know its a cold place, look at the background weather. It should be somewhere in Indon? The people behind looks like indon to me. ๐Ÿ˜› Should be some place i never been to. I only been to Bali.

    Friday. Hmmmm…very observant. LOL!!! ๐Ÿ˜€

  22. I will guess Chiengmai! hehe.. That is a nice photo of you and your lovely wife! I have never been on a horse -drawn carriage in any Asian country before.

But elsewhere, yes? Ok…first guess for Chiengmai… LOL!!! ๐Ÿ˜€

  23. one question. did the horse survive the journey?

Hahahahaha!!!! Probably ended up much better off than before we started. I’m sure the detoxification did it a lot of good. LOL!!! ๐Ÿ˜€

  24. if you were a bit “bigger” then.. then i think your wife can sit on your lap.. more romantic right? ๐Ÿ˜€

Yalor…soft and comfortable. Problem is the horse may not be strong enough to pull. Tak jalan. LOL!!! ๐Ÿ˜€
