Today and everyday…

She was born on this day 22 years ago…

Melissa in Wellington 2011

…but the registration office people got it wrong, so on paper, her birthday’s tomorrow. It doesn’t really matter as…

…Trees have rings and thicker branches
Kids’ shoes get a little tighter
Every year, we’re getting closer to who we’re gonna be
It’s time to celebrate the story of how you’ve come to be

So light a candle on your cake
For every smile you’ve helped create
For every heart and every soul
You’ve known to grow a little more
A few more pounds, a little more grey
Don’t count the years, just count the way
It takes a little time to go from water into wine
Don’t ever lose the wonder of the child within your eyes

Melissa in NZ - Hari Raya 2011

Happy birthday, sayang
Here’s to all the years we’ve shared together
All the fun we’ve had
It’s such a blessing
Such a joy in my life
May the good Lord bless you
And may all your dreams come true…

Have a great day, darling and may God shower His blessings upon you today and every day in the year ahead. We love you…and we’ll be here for you always.

  1. May she get a good husband, with lots of love and $$, and may her dad have long life to see lots of grandkids…

Of course! Of course! Can’t wait…. Muahahahahaha!!!!! ๐Ÿ˜€

  2. She’s just 5 years younger than me. =D Happy birthday, Melissa.

Thanks. Wow! You ARE young! That means when you were her age, you were already married an din the family way? Gosh! That’s early…for people of this zaman…. ๐Ÿ˜‰

    1. =.= oredi a mum when I was her age, and was struggling in college with my degree, if I recalled correctly. LOL…kinda crazy, but I wouldn’t have it any other way. I may moan and groan at times, but I kinds like how things turned out. After all, now, I can start dreaming of cucus of my own. >.< Syok la… if I'm lucky enuff, within 15 years, I can be grandma… and I wun be that old yet. And if God sees it fit to bless me, I can even live to see my great grandchildren*DREAMING*

Stop dreaming! Most people these days don’t want to kahwin…so wait till forever also, no cucus. So for insurance, better have lots of children like people last time – a few may get married and produce cucus for you. LOL!!!

  3. Which reminds me… next month is my kid sister’s bday. She’s 2 years younger than Melissa. Hmm…got to go shop for pressies soon. >.< Got two October babies in my family… my anak's bday oso in Oct!

    Ummm…mine’s in December. Hehehehehe!!!! ๐Ÿ˜€

  4. Btw, forget to tell you that Melissa looks so sweet in her red baju kebaya with kain batik. Very cantik. My late grandma has one too, and if I’m not mistaken, it was passed down to my aunt… along with the chained brooches. (kerongsang)

If only Melissa takes off her specs and pull up her hair in a sanggul, she will look like a true blue old times nyonya. ๐Ÿ˜€

Yes, she would look nice in a sanggul. She looks real neat in a ponytail…so can just sanggul that. My mum has a lot of kebayas (and keronsangs – diamond ones even) but Melissa’s of a different body shape. Can’t possibly use…and somehow she can’t use her mum’s kebayas – different bone structure, bigger…and we always thought she’s so thin! Will have to buy or get her own made.

  5. Happy Birthday Melissa! What a sweet post for your sweet daughter. Wishing her lots of happiness in her life.

Thank you. That’s all I pray fro each passing day – that she will always be happy and enjoy peace of body, heart and soul.

  6. Happy birthday to your dearest daughter!! ๐Ÿ™‚ May God’s abundant blessings be upon her. I love this song. I used it to make a video for my friend’s birthday last year.

Thank you. Oooo…that’s sweet. Is it on youtube? Come, share the link.

    1. Haha.. Sorry it’s not on YouTube ๐Ÿ™‚ it’s just a slideshow of pictures compiled into a video. ๐Ÿ˜€

I see. That’s nice of you to go through the trouble. The best birthday gifts are not the expensive ones but the ones from the heart.

  7. Many Happy Returns on Melissa’s sweet double ducklings birthday. So can celebrate twice today and tomorrow, how nice.

Thanks. That does not make it four double ducklings, I hope… LOL!!! ๐Ÿ˜€

  8. A beautiful dedication. May the Papa and darling daughter enjoy many more moons of wonderful times together.

Thank you, I certainly look forward to that. ๐Ÿ™‚

  9. Nice tangerine Kebaya! happy birthday to your daughter! ๐Ÿ™‚ God bless.

Thanks. Since she’s more into such nice outfits these days, will have to hunt for more. Can wear for special occasions – a nice change from the casual t-shirt and jeans that most young people prefer today.

  10. Arthur, “Happy Birthday to your beloved daughter, Melissa and Many Happy Returns of the Day”. Born in 1989, same year as my son.

Melissa looks nice with the “ang ang baju kebaya and sarong”.

Thanks. Nice eh? Oh? Your son’s the same age? Wink! Wink! Muahahahaha!!!! ๐Ÿ˜€

    1. Yup, same age but my son is born in the month of February. 7 months older. Wink!!..Wink!!…back to you, kekekeke!!!!!

Sigh!!! This things, not up to old people to say lah. Have to leave it to the young ones. Can only hope and pray they will find good partners to love and care for one another. Right or not? ๐Ÿ˜‰

      1. Betul!…Betul!…you are 101% right.

Of course, I am. I’m always right! Muahahahahaha!!!! ๐Ÿ˜‰

2ndly… so fast one year already??? I thought it was only recently that I wished her?? gosh.. no wonder my white hair grow so much lately! Time rockets! lol…

    3rdly: 22 years old? mine is… er… 23plus.. hehehee…

Thanks for the good wishes. Ya, time really flies, doesn’t it? All too soon, our kids are grown – all big now. Ah! Just a year older eh? ๐Ÿ˜‰ Hahahahahaha!!!! ๐Ÿ˜€

  12. The first time I jumpa dia, I was convinced that STP has brought up a wonderful girl, that i am totall convinced, so when she comes back in DEC nanti, big big belated celebration, got or not?

Happy birthday Melissa,May God grant you good health, good wisdom and happiness and joy

Sure! Everytime she comes home is a celebration. I guess it’s mainly her nature – gentle and well-mannered (Not like the father! LOL!!! ๐Ÿ˜€ ). Thanks for your good wishes.

  13. melissa is the sweetest and most humble girl i have ever met and I’m so grateful to have her as a friend. mr wee, ure very lucky to have such a wonderful daughter. =)

Indeed I am…so very lucky, and you’re very sweet yourself too. Glad to have had you as my student before. Stay the same…๐Ÿ˜‰

  14. Happy birthday to Melissa! Have a blessed and wonderful day ๐Ÿ™‚
So, does she celebrate her birthday twice, every year? Must be fun to receive greetings and pressies over two days….:P

Thanks. Those kids – anybody’s birthday every year, they have celebrations over several days – better than Agong’s birthday. Ah well, you’re only young once so let them have all the fun. ๐Ÿ˜‰

  15. Many happy returns to the birthday girl. She looks absolutely radiant!

Thank you. Yes, she does…and knowing that she’s getting on well over there makes me very happy. ๐Ÿ™‚

  16. Happy Birthday to your lovely daughter. Ohh….she is a virgo girl too? my smaller girl is one too.

Thanks. I wonder if they share the same characteristics. ๐Ÿ™‚

  17. May the birthday girl and her loved ones be showered with tons of awesome blessings..

    Happy Birthday Girl.. โค

Thanks for your greeting and your good wishes. ๐Ÿ™‚

  18. Wah, it’s a great looking on the bright side. She gets to celebrate her birthday 3 times in a year … the one according to the Chinese lunar calendar, her real birthday according to the Gregorian calendar and then the one that keeps her one day younger … Happy Birthday to your girl!!!

Thanks. Knowing her and her friends, it will be more than just three days. They will always have something going on and on like it’s never going to end. Never mind! They’re young – the best time to have fun. ๐Ÿ˜‰

  19. happy bday to ur doter! ๐Ÿ˜‰

the registration officers oso got my extended family’s surnames wrong… in our whole family tree… we have three different spelling versions for the surname. *faints*

Thanks. Sigh!!! You’re telling me… Such things happen all the time – my brother’s and my Chinese names are supposed to be the same, the first Chinese character after our surname but the English equivalent is different. ๐Ÿ˜ฆ

  20. I can feel the love and I am sure your daughter is drowned in it. Happy belated birthday to her. May she always stay healthy and happy.

Thanks. Guess that’s all I have to give to her…lots and lots of love.
