Where the twain shall meet…

Do you believe in fate? You may be from different ends of the country or different parts of the world but if it is fated, no matter what, you will eventually end up together. Well, this is not the first case and I’m sure it will definitely not be the last.

Another one of my ex-students got married the other day…

Elvis' wedding 1

He was such a nice boy in school, so pleasant – a really very good boy indeed. He was very active in church activities and I used to jokingly ask him whether he wanted to become a priest and then we would have a Father Elvis! Well, that’s his name and he didn’t end up becoming a priest but instead, he tied the knot on Friday last week to this girl all the way from Serdang, Kedah…

Elvis' wedding 2

I went to the church service in the morning and that evening, the wedding reception was held at this restaurant

Good Happiness. Sibu

…which is in fact the sister-establishment of this restaurant in town.

Of course, it started with the Four+1 Treasures…

Good Happiness, 4+1 Treasures

…followed by the not-to-be-named soup as usual…

Good Happiness, sharks' fins soup

The steamed fish was really good, I must say…

Good Happiness, steamed fish

…and this meat combo dish of pork and Thai-style chicken came next…

Good Happiness, meat combo dish

I did not touch this…

Good Happiness abalone mushroom & veg dish

…but I did take a couple of prawns from this next dish…

Good Happiness, salty crusty prawns

Then, there was the dessert – or nee (yam paste) with sio bee (meat dumplings), both of which I enjoyed…but unfortunately, I forgot to take a photograph of it.

It certainly was a delightful evening and dinner and thanks so much, Elvis, for the invitation. As always, it is so very nice to be remembered…

  1. Just curious, why didn’t you touch that dish? It looks like those pseudo abalone or clams or something?

I was already full by then. I think it was a mix of a few slices of abalone and some abalone clams on top – underneath, they had mushrooms…what do you call them, golden needles?

  2. I am also as curious as Mom2Kiddos.. are you allergic to them? hehe.. it looks good to me.. something different.. or nee.. gosh, my favourite but they dont do it in Ipoh.. sigh.. i got to eats them in JB and Singapore only.. your student memang looks very smart and good looking!
    Congratulations to them!

Thanks. Ya, all my students smart and good looking. Hehehehehehe!!! Oh? You like or nee too? Must take note of that – a must-have in the menu when we go out for dinner…when you are in Sibu! LOL!!! 😀 Well, I’ve answered the question…and no, I’m not allergic to anything. I eat everything! 😀

P.S. Hey! I was expecting you to make a comment about them, east marrying west… Who knows? Maybe one of your sons will marry someone so far away too? Wink! Wink! Muahahahaha!!! 😀

    1. *speechless* What’s this planning eh? Jangan ingat I tak tau :p Mun ada takdir.

      Oooopssss!!!! Muahahahahahaha!!!!! ROTFL! 😉

    2. hehehe…so bocor rahsia already??? next time we better PM elsewhere about the east and the west… i purposely didnt want to comment about that yesterday… *smile*
so now the cat is out of the bag….. what do you plan to do now? hehehee…

Hahahaha!!! Never mind, just wait and see… Like I said in the post, it’s all fated. Jodoh… 😉

  3. is that Elvis L***?

Yup, that’s the one. Still looks exactly the same as he did in school. Your time…or did you know him from church?

P.S. NOTE TO CLEFFAIRY (& to whom it may concern)
Click Champ’s name/link to go to his blog to see where you can have Sarawak laksa and Kuching kolo mee in KL. Yum! Yum!

  4. U’re such happy and lucky teacher now seeing ur student getting married one by one. 🙂 food looks good! 😉

Yes, sure is nice to see them grow up, do well in life and happily settling down and starting their own families. The food was good – one of the better restaurants in town.

  5. the last time i attended a wedding was June last year, the best wedding ever i would say hehe

So when is yours? Don’t forget to invite me,ya? Never mind, Penang or Malacca…sure I’ll go. I love weddings. LOL!!!

  6. it’s so nice being invited to the wedding of an ex-student yeah?? hey, why you didn’t touch that dish, it looks like the most yummy of all to me leh, haha~~ 😀

It must be! Look at the empty plate in the background of the prawn photograph! LOL!!! Yes, it certainly is so nice. I love attending weddings – friends’ also… So when is yours? Must invite me, ok? 😉

  7. Fate to me is divine appointment, sure i believe in fate and fate got me to know such a nice person like you…

Yes, yes…it’s all fated. We just live our lives the best we can and leave the rest to God.

  8. Congratz Elvis! and you fed a Happy Man too 🙂

LOL!!! He sure did…and thanks on his behalf. 🙂

  9. Hmmm…teacher attending ex-student wedding. Congratulations to the newly wed.

Food looks great…would love the steamed fish and Four+1 Treasure. See the prawn served in a special boat/ship. Very creative.

This ship thing is very comment here – can see in many restaurants. Usually used to serve the first dish (cold). Thanks for your good wishes for the couple. Sure was an honour to attend when they do remember me and have the heart to invite me to grace their special occasion…

  10. the fish looks good and fresh. 🙂 or nee with sio bee for the dessert? wow.. that’s something unusual as they usually serve sweet stuff for dessert here in Penang style wedding dinner. It’s nice to have students remembering their teachers even after 10 / 20 years and invite their teachers to their weddings kan?

The sio bee is traditional Sibu Foochow style. In the past (during my younger days), they would have one plate of that and one plate of fried noodles before the dessert…to make sure that nobody went home hungry – in the past, they had to travel long distances to get home.

  11. Congratulations to the beautiful couple.

New restaurant? Where is it? Look very nice. Is the food as good as Golden Happiness?

I had the same food as above for the past two weeks, now i look at it, i won’t drool…but i like “Or Nee” or i should said i miss Or Nee? Yum…

Thanks. Ya…it’s the same company/restaurant – food more or less the same. Been around for sometime already – located in the vicinity of the Sibu bus terminal. We can go there when you come back to Sibu… 😉 And I’ll make sure you have or nee too… Hehehehehe!!!!

  12. Congrats to the newly weds! How nice of your ex student for him to remember you on his special day.

Thanks. Ya, I do have some very nice students… 🙂

  13. Its a good year to get married hor. Thats why I chose this year too! lol. 🙂

    Gratz to the newlyweds 🙂

Thanks. Oh? It’s a good year? But unfortunately you are not inviting me to yours…. Sobssss!!!! 😦

    1. I am !! don’t come to conclusion yet bro. 🙂 it’s this coming september 25th, sunday night for mine, sept 24th sat night for Janice’s side, both in penang. To be frank I havent sat down and go through the guest list yet, the invitation card will be ready by end of this week.

Oh? 2 nights in a row? Wow!!! Sounds like it’s going to be a grand thing. Gosh! Better start saving for the ang pao. 10 sen a day enough or not? Muahahahaha!!!! 😀

  14. The food all looking great…i bet must be yummy!!! That u’ve forgotten to take the dessert pic, lol!!

    Ya, I just forgot completely… LOL!!! 😀

  15. Congrats to them, hope God bless them both with a happy marriage. Neway, today never drool. Why? Still drooling over ur previous post… LOL… I’m all for smelly salted fish!

Thanks. Ya, sometimes just porridge and salted fish will be more satisfying than anything else.

  16. Arthur,
So long I didn’t attend any wedding. I think more than 5 years already. Don’t even know what is the ongoing rate for wedding angpows already. Ohhhhh….got that soup that cannot be named…my fave. You know, I so gian want to eat crab for the last 2 weeks. Hmm..don’t when can get to satiate that craving!!

When you come to Sibu? Hehehehehe!!! 😀 And you can have the not-to-be-named soup as well. It’s usually RM50 per head here…but elsewhere, probably RM100 per head as it’s more expensive. I suppose you will not get the chance to attend any weddings till your sibling’s children get married…and they’re all still very small. I did not have many weddings to attend as well before this… Thank goodness I still have teeth to eat. LOL!!!

  17. Love the steamed fish and the prawns. Surprised you pulled handbrake and skip the abalone. Congrats to Elvis & Bride * you tak cakap nama pun* from Serdang, Kedah, the place famous for its Fried Porridge.

Oh? I didn’t know that. The only Serdang that I know is where UPM is – will drivepast on the way to KL from KLIA. Thanks for you good wishes – the bride’s surname is LIm. Know any Lim family there?

  18. I believe that God has a reason for everything 🙂

Where is Kedah? Is it in Malaysia, too? is the pork and thai-style chicken spicy? it reminds me of spicy spareribs in some of the Chinese resto here 🙂

He certainly has and His will be done. Yes, Kedah is one of the states in Malaysia. The Thai-style chicken has a sweet and sourish sauce with chili…but this one wasn’t spicy. Some restaurants would just use Thai chili sauce from the bottle. I don’t know what they marinated the pork with but it was not spicy – just red in colour.

  19. Hahaha. You even do wedding food critic huh? Hahahaha. Wow. Tough one to please. How nice it is to see he’s all grown up.,
Fate? I think, I am in the journey of making and accepting my fate. Who knows…

Yes, we’ll have to wait and see where it takes you. Don’t forget to invite me eh? Hehehehehe!!!! No lah…where got critic? Just sharing… LOL!!! 😀

  20. Wasn’t tht the abalone, you don’t like it? YUM, love the fish, it look s so good to go with its gravy!

    Congratulation to your ex-student!!

Thanks. I was already full by then…and usually, that dish in a banquet seems to be overloaded with msg… 😦 The sweetness of the abalone would have been enough – no need to add anymore…or at least, not so much.

  21. so nice of him to remember you arthur…congratulations to him
sigh…yeah i believe in Fate too… the right girl for me is just out there

Yes, she is! And don’t forget to invite me. Good excuse to hop over to Manila. I love weddings!!! 😉 And yes, it certainly feels nice to be remembered. Thanks on his behalf for your good wishes.
