Last Sunday was Father’s Day here but as far as I know, they have it on different dates in some countries. Well, my daughter’s not home so we did not really celebrate the special occasion even though my missus did go out and buy a cake a week earlier as she got the date wrong. Half of it is still in the fridge…and I guess that certainly says a lot about the cake.
In the meantime, she went and baked this banana cake…
…and in a blink of an eye, it was all gone…
That certainly says a lot about THIS cake, doesn’t it? LOL!!!
We went to the evening Sunday service at the cathedral as usual and after that, we went to the cafe at the Garden Hotel here for dinner. We had not been there since my daughter went back to Wellington so that would mean that it had been almost half a year since we last dropped by the place.
They gave us this complimentary garlic bread…
…and my missus had the fish and chips (RM12++), my daughter’s favourite…
…and the tartar sauce came in this…
I thought one would use that for gravy that one could pour – like those for steaks and chops. Tsk! Tsk!
I decided to try the chicken cordon bleu (RM15.00++)…
…and got a pretty generous chunk. I was somewhat disappointed, however, when I cut into it at one end…
I could not see anything and reckoned it was going to be just a slab of fried chicken. However, it turned out that I had jumped to the conclusion too soon. As I ate, the cheese began to ooze out…
…and they even had mushroom in it…
But I do wish they had a slice of ham in it too though, never mind even if it had been turkey. Anyway, on the whole, it was pretty good and something worth having should you happen to drop by the place.
Both of us had iced lemon tea (RM5.00++)…
– not my usual cup of tea, so to speak…but I usually refrain from kopi-o-peng (iced black coffee) at night in case I’ll be tossing and turning till dawn…
Good morning Arthur,
Eh, no recipe ah for the nice banana cake?…I sure can find the ingredients here unlike your more complicated dishes…lol.
Shy to tell…I’ve never tried chicken cordon bleu before. I hate going to posh restaurants and order chicken. I feel macam not worth it. It does not help either that most of the time, the cook will over cook the chicken and will be dry…posh restaurant or not. Bila I visit you, this restaurant tak payah be on the list lar,ya…hehehehe.
Apparently, those 2 in Wellie will not be having Italian after all. Not sure what they will have but Mel’s recommending another place. Ohhhh…double jealous gua…muahahaha.
Don’t worry! I certainly would not take you for western when you’re in town. Like those tourists that I see at McDs. Eyewwwww…..can’t they eat that at home? Coming all the way here for that? My ex-students abroad always say, however, that our KFC here is much nicer – dunno in what way. The chicken was nicely done – still juicy though…and should you drop by this place, you can always have their local fare – which is very good too (See tomorrow’s post).
Ya…when Mel’s date texted her yesterday, she already had dinner (as you said Wednesday)…and he could not seem to recall any Italian restaurant or something like that (Men!), so Mel suggested having Indian which she likes very much too (I, for one, would prefer Indian). The ash has not gone past yet? All flights still cancelled? Then Mel can expect to go on more than just one date? Eat your heart out, Shereen… Muahahahaha!!!! 😀
Arthur,
Yalah…”men”!!! I think I’ve prayed a little too hard…I was so happy he was not flying for the past 1 week and kept praying that the valcano will meletup kaw-kaw so that all flights will be cancelled. Now that he’s flying again, I should have thank god for his good deeds last week and to tell him to stop the volcano from erupting again…heheheh…but I terlupa! At least he’s in Wellie and can still get the midnight train to balik. If he’s in OZ, I’ll cry tak berlagu. Oh well, never mind…my loss Mel’s gain…muahahaha…blerk!!
PS: Too bad Mel is doing her practical today or else her date could have driven her to Kapiti Coast to see the “king”. Last sighting was 40 years ago!!!
PPS: Ya…agree with your student…KFC much nicer in Malaysia…more taste, more salt and more rempah…bigger piece too…but then I like Indonesia ones too…they have chicken skins…only!!! Not healthy but who cares…heheheh…syiok wei!
Yalor! Full day! Normally, she would have at least two days off in a week…and just a few hours’ lectures or tutorials on certain days and could be quite free. Bad timing! It seems that it’s the ash going around the world from Chile…already one round and now back in Oz again, or something like that. Didn’t really read up on the details… So no idea how long Mel’s date will be in Welly then? Think she went to Kapiti last year…don’t think she saw the “king” there. LOL!
Here or there or anywhere, I’m not into those fast food franchises, never mind which – may eat for convenience or some reason like that but would not go to one on purpose with the intention of dining there.
The chicken looked absolutely yummerz! I could almost taste the cheese oozing out. Damn, now I’m hungry. Should’ve known better than to come into your blog with an empty tummy. Oh well, my bad.
It was good – very nicely done, very tender and juicy – just right. Hey! No plans to come over to Sibu. Drag the whole gang over. Cheap airfare is cheaper than the parking fee at KLIA! LOL!!!
That cake sure looks yummy – nice and moist. Glad you had a great one with the missus.
It was o.k. Did not really go all out to celebrate…but I must say that I would very much prefer her own home-baked cakes to those that we can buy outside. My daughter would say there’s that special ingredient that makes it more special… 😉
You hv a wonderful wife who can seduce you via your stomach, the banana cake certainly looks good! How I wish to date like you and your missus whn the kids have grown up… so envy!
Well, as the saying goes, the way to a man’s heart is through his stomach! LOL!!!
At night if I drink kopi peng…..also sleep very well….cafeine no effect on me….lol!
Immune already, I guess. You need something else to conk you out? Hehehehehe!!!! 😉
Looks like the cake has some yummy ingredients embedded inside.. so this is your missus secret recipe! must be reaaaally good since there is not a bit left for us… lol…
Lovely dinner too…. so u got treated nicely on Father’s Day, eh…
Just the cake, I paid for the dinner… 😦 Hehehehehe!!! Those would be the bits of the mashed bananas, I guess. You come to Sibu lah! I’ll ask her to bake one just for you… Yum! 😉
Ahhh!!…there you are!!!..see how nice your missus…bake another Father’s Day cake for you and sumore great treats. Remember what I told you when you have yr 1st celebration on Father’s Day. Hey!!….hey!!!..yr dreams have become reality.
Oh!..goodness gracious!…banana cake, my favourite. Looks great and feel like getting a bite of it. Can share the receipe. Thnx
The chicken looks absolutely yummy and I can feel the cheese oozing out with the 1st bite. DROOOOOOOOOOOOOLING!!!!!!………
See! You come to Sibu lah…and I’ll take you to this place to eat that. I’m sure you’ll love it – really nice! And don’t forget all the other nice places in town… Yum! Yum! Recipe ah? Dunno lah…have to ask my wife. I don’t bake, so I don’t know. Just know how to eat. LOL!!! 😀 Well, just the cake, dinner was on me… I guess something is better than nothing, right? 😉
oh, she baked that banana cake?? wow, so professional, it really looks very delicious and i am feeling very hungry now and want to have a piece for breakfast, haha..
Come, come to Sibu…and I’ll ask her to bake you one…and you can have it all to yourself, not just a piece. 😉
somehow the fish and chips’ fish and the cordon bleu’s chicken look the same.. haha..
cheese.. yummy 🙂
I guess that’s the standard presentation at the place – the only difference would be the fish and the chicken… Either not very creative or just plain lazy.
That cheese coming out of your chicken cordon bleu looks real good. I must try to cook that one day. AND put ham 🙂 So nice of your wifey to make a yummy cake for you. Makes me feel bad. I should do more for my hubby on Father’s day . Wakakakak.
Now what did you do for your hubby for Father’s Day? After all, your kids are still too small to celebrate the day for him. Come, spill the beans… Not nothing, I hope… LOL!!! 😀
Your chicken cordon bleu looked so delicious! got cheese and mushroom summore!! 😀
It was nice…just RM15++ is a bit pricey for the like of me. Can’t afford to have stuff like that too often – but for Father’s Day, ok lah… 😦
Oh gad… u post so early in the morning you’re like my wakeup call! and with food too! *laughed reading about that cake and this cake*
Scheduled posts – all will appear at 5.00 a.m. every day…. I may still be sleeping at the time. LOL!!!😀
aiyoo..the cake so cantik, sayang nak makan 😉
and the chix not bad tough, the cheese man….errr yummy yummy 😀
Not tough, tender and nice…juicy, not overdone. Was very good, I would say. Want the cake, come over to Sibu. Hehehehehehe! 😉
Lol, finished in a blink of an eye ya.. you must have a really ferocious appetite. 😛
Omg, what a heavy meal! with the chicken cordon bleu and all. I know la father’s day, but you have to jaga makan also! Lol 😛 Once in a year thing right 😛
Heavy kah? Not really leh…but my missus could only eat a piece of her fish and passed the other one to me – and after that, I was really really full. Now THAT was what I could call a heavy meal! Muahahahahaha!!! Of course lah! Only for special occasion – poor old retiree like me, how to afford eating like this all the time? 😉
retirees are richees.. You have a lifetime to accumulate so much savings through your salary and assets. 🙂
If only that is true… We get half of our last drawn salary as pension and it was so small, so imagine half of that – not much left…and over the years, had to make ends meet…where got anything for me to save. Sobssss!!!! Live too long also so very phai mia… 😦
What do you mean in a blink of an eye its all gone? You finished eating the whole cake all by yourself? Boy you must have the appetite of king kong or you have equally distributed to your neighbours, friends and relatives or even nicer to hear pos laju-ed to all bloggers except me coz you didnt ask for my address *sobs*. Love banana cake you know *can you please read between the lines* ahem…
Lines? What lines? Nothing in between the lines leh? Hehehehehe!!!! No lah! Filial son like me, cutthe cake into two and gave one half to my father…and the remaining half, my missus and I ate ourselves…but you can guess who ate most of it. Hehehehehe!!! 😀
Hi five Pete! The word ‘caffeine’ is not in our dictionary. Its our usual supper since childhood, kopi ‘o’ with cracker before going to bed.
…and I will not ask what happens after you’ve gone to bed! Muahahahaha!!! 😀
at least you’re not paying some exorbitant price for those dishes. I wonder if they use cordon bleu for that chicken?!!
The brandy? Fat chance… The place is halal, good excuse. LOL!!!
huh…they stuff the mushroom and cheese into the chicken? i wish to have that too…….mark this down so that next time i come sibu…u know la….hint**hint** LOL!!!
No problem at all. You can have this and more…more…more! So…when are you coming? 🙂
Hang on…..planning….planning.maybe somewhere around next year. for i will drop by Kuching first…kekekkeke…
Next year? Aiyor…. That’s like forever! Kuching again? If you do not have people who really know to take you to all the right places, really no point….
Ling, u wan the fried chicken wif stuffed cheese kah? See lah, if I managed to get my hands on some mozzarella, I’ll make some for u and side it with home made has brown. Wan kah? Next round sumbat u to makan.
Line it with ham inside…gives it a stronger, saltier taste…nicer!
Eh? Sumbat ham inside? I never tried that before… dono will jadi or not. The ham have to sautee first for crispier texture?
The one I had at Concorde KLIA had a layer of chicken on the outside and ham on the inside…and the gooey cheese in the middle: https://suituapui.wordpress.com/2010/11/16/home-for-the-holidays/
The banana cake certainly looks light and fluffy! And you finished all that in ONE day? That certainly says a lot about YOU too 😛 Kidding! hehe
Hahahaha!!! Well, what about the other cake? Half is still in the fridge (after a week) – so that says a lot about me too? But truth be told, I used to love cakes…a lot! But not so much anymore. Maybe it’s because of old age. Growing old! Once in a while’s good enough for me… 😦
Ohhh.. cordon bleu chicken… I can make that, but usually dun bother cuz the cheese r too expensive and better off as pizza instead.
You can? The Negro version? Muahahahahaha!!!! It’s nice…for something different once in a while but you would not see me craving for it and running back there for more.
LOL… my negro version mostly comes out from my oven. If fry punya, shouldn’t be a prob cuz I wun go and bathe or chat on the PC while frying ma. ROFLOL!
Hahahaha!!! Now the truth is revealed…how the chicken became a negro. 😉
Blush blush. No more multitasking for me. I am really bad at it.
Hehehehehe!!! 😉
Oh STP. Really yummy lah (I do hope that I used “lah” here hehe. I am getting accustomed to the “lah” of Malaysians). As always, your post made me hungry. Oh well, dinner is just few hours away anyway.
So, what happened to the first cake? Still inside the fridge?
Yup! Still in the fridge – not keen on eating it so perhaps, one of these days, we’d just get rid of it. So what are you having for dinner? Since it’s almost dinner time, then it should be ok lah… LOL!!!
Well, I had meat that night. 🙂
Yum! I’m a meat person, that’s for sure… LOL!!!
very wrong timing! now i’m gonna rush back home and head to pasar malam and grab some cakes! HAHA 😀
Bluff! I saw your latest post – you had all those yummy stuff that I’m sure are a whole lot nicer. Liar! Lair! Pants on fire! LOL!!! 😀
The cordon bleu looked good> But agreed with you that a slice of ham would have made it better, but then again, ham is super expensive nowadays so that’s why they prolly left it out 😉
+Ant+
I guess so… I always see in the supermart but no heart to buy – too expensive, can do without it…and save my money. 😦
Yalo… ham very expensive leh these days. I prolly will slice hotdog and sumbat inside instead. >.< *kedekut to max*
Not a fan of sausages – the frozen ones, that is. Love those at the German restaurants…but those aren’t cheap either…. 😦
Going Fancy Arthur?
I have no comment on the Western-‘asian’ food. But the cake. Oh how nice it is. I love pale looking banana cake and baked with love! Would you like to adopt me? Hahaha
Come! Come! How about that? An instant son who’s a doctor…. Truly a Godsend! LOL!!! 😀
that banana cake certainly looks delicious. and also that cordon bleu looks yummy…based on how you describe it…i love cheese on food 🙂 have a nice day! 🙂
Yes, both very yummilicious, that’s for sure! 😉
Homemade banana cake, sure yummylicious!
So sweet of Mrs Wee.
Yes, she makes very nice cakes…just that the occasions when she does would be few and far between. 😦
I can confirm that KFC in most places in europe is v poorly- always over-cooked until there is no ‘juice’ in the meat and v dry. I don’t even bother these days. As for McDs, from my limited travels, I always thought that it is only good as a public toilet, i.e. just go in and make use of their lavatory as it is always clean wherever one is.
On a separate note, just want to say (from what I’ve read on your blog so far) that Melissa is v blessed to have a doting father and I am sure she is thankful – hope you had a lovely Father’s Day despite Melissa being away.
Yes, and I’m blessed to have a daughter like her. That’s the most important – no need for any public show of emotion. I had Pizza Hut in Auckland before and KFC and McD in the UK a long time ago – never really into these so it never ever impresses me in any way.
one week early pun never mind la…at least no need to kena “slaughter” coz the price of cakes and etc sure increased on Father’s Day
The funny thing is…over here, no Father’s Day special. Real discrimination one. Only for Mother’s Day (and Valentine’s Day)! Fathers should stand up and fight – boycott Mother’s Day…sama-sama no need! Tsk! Tsk!
Didn’t eat banana cake for sometimes liao…
Best one at Payung here – not into those at the bakeries or elsewhere.
