The walk…

I’ve never heard this song before but it so happened that I stumbled upon it just yesterday and I thought it would be an appropriate song to share with everybody today – Father’s Day…

Down our long dusty driveway, I didn’t want to go
But I set out with tears in my eyes, a-wondering
Daddy took me by the hand
Looked out at the school bus and his little man
And said, “Don’t worry, boy! It’ll be all right.”

‘Cause I took this walk you’re walking now, boy
I’ve been in your shoes
Well, you can’t hold back the hands of time
It’s just something you’ve got to do
So dry your eyes, I understand just what you’re going through
Cause I took this same walk with my old man, boy
I’ve been in your shoes

Down our long dusty driveway, I set my mind to go
Well, I was eighteen and wild and free and a-wondering
Daddy took me by the hand
Looked at the world and at his grown man
And said, “Don’t worry, boy. It’ll be all right.”

‘Cause I took this walk you’re walking now, boy,
I’ve been in your shoes
Well, you can’t hold back the hands of time
It’s just something you’ve got to do
So dry your eyes, I understand just what you’re going through
Cause I took this same walk with my old man Boy,
I’ve been in your shoes

Down our long dusty driveway, this time we both would go
Well, he had grown old and grey and his mind was a-wandering
Daddy took me by the hand
Said, “I know where we’re going and I understand
Don’t worry, boy. It will be all right”

‘Cause I took this walk you’re walking now, boy
I’ve been in your shoes
Well, you can’t hold back the hands of time
It’s just something you’ve got to do
So dry your eyes, I understand just what you’re going through
Cause I took this same walk with my old man, boy
I’ve been in your shoes.

  1. Howz this for a Daddy’s Day song ~ “Papa Don’t Preach”. 😉
Happy Daddy’s Day, Arthur …. have a good one!

Huh? You’re gonna have a baby, Zee? LOL!!! Thanks for the wishes.

  2. What a beautiful song. And yes, very appropriate for Father’s Day indeed. I found myself tearing up listening to it’s every word. I was keeping my fingers crossed that they don’t show the daddy dying at the end, if not I’d just find myself sobbing like a baby. What a lovely ending too. A very Happy Father’s Day to you!

Thanks. Now you click this link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NNL_wGZgV5Q and listen to the song. It seems the father had just passed away before this concert. So sad that it brought a tear or two to my eyes too… Such a lovely song.

    1. Want to make me cry izit??!! That must be his father’s hat and tongkat. Yes, very touching. Anymore?

Have you seen “You’re my hero” in this old post?
      https://suituapui.wordpress.com/2009/06/21/dont-cry-daddy/
The “Family” video clip is very nice too.

Then there’s “Dancing with my father” and a whole lot of father-daughter songs…and mother-daughter ones. Seldom parent-son…except those with conflicts e.g. “Cat’s in the cradle” or “Father and son”

  3. “Happy Papa’s Day”, Arthur…and also to all the great and wonderful fathers, daddy & papas wherever they are.

Indeed a nice, beautiful and touching song. Can’t hold back my tears!…SOBS!!!!…

Thanks. LOL!!! I thought this one was meaningful but not exactly sad…unlike “The Old Man” – see the link in my reply to mom2kiddos.

Thanks. Why? I look just as cute…and just as wise? LOL!!! 😉

  6. ‘Butterfly Kisses’ makes me cry all the time. Neway, Happy Father’s Day, Cikgu. 😀

That’s a father-daughter song – I’m son of my father mah! My daughter hates that song – doesn’t like the getting married and leaving the father part at the end… 😉 Thanks for greeting, same to hubs.

  7. Happy Father’s Day to you and all the coolest fathers.

My daughter sms me this morning with this message: “Happy Father’s Day!!! Thank you for being the world’s coolest dad!!! Thank you for being my daddy. Love you!!!=] ”

  9. Happy Father’s Day! *for once, no food picture… Lol!*

Thanks. As the English proverb goes, “Every dog has its day,” so give everybody a break. LOL!!!

  10. It certainly pays to learn from a man who has consumed more salt than we have rice.
    Happy Fathers Day, Arthur! 😉

Thanks. Yes, “take kindly the counsel of the years…” (Desiderata)

  11. that’s a beautiful song.. so how did you celebrate father’s day?? makan big and minum big?? haha 😀

Not really. Anak not at home…but watch out for the post – coming soon. 😉

  12. As always, your taste for songs is impeccable.Love the singer’s phrasing when singing.

Definitely not like the way many Kiwis speak. I saw a weather report…and the lady said, “…n tin a im….now, over to you, Windy!” The other lady’s name must be Wendy. LOL!!!

  13. Happy belated daddy’s day to you, hope you do have a great time and your missus give you another round surprise celebration.

Thanks. What did you and the boys do with their daddy? Big celebration, I bet! We did not really celebrate…but we did go out for dinner like we usually do on Sundays after church service.
