My missus got hold of one of these the other day…
…by exchanging her coupons from one of those direct-sale companies. Oops! Looks like the manufacturer’s spell check was AWOL at that point in time!
She told me that it could be used for deep frying, grilling and all that and there would not be any need to turn the food over. Instead, one would just have to flip over the pan…
As you can see, it is more or less identical on both sides…
When closed, it is tightly sealed so there will not be any spluttering and you will not end up with oil in every nook and cranny in the kitchen. Besides, you will not have the smell all over the house unlike when you fry salted fish the usual way – the whole neighbourhood would be able to smell it. LOL!!!
Wait a minute! Doesn’t that take away some of the pleasure of cooking? Now, one would be deprived of inhaling the aroma from the food and the satisfaction of watching it cook to perfection.
Well, she tried it out and grilled some pieces of fish fillet marinated with terrayaki sauce…
It looked ok, tasted ok…but I think I will reserve my judgement for the time being and wait till she has cooked something else with it before I will commit myself and say that it is a must-buy and a must-have in every kitchen.
Yeah, I agree with you – if there’s no smell, it does take away the pleasure in cooking.
However, it is a pretty nifty device…being able to flip it over without the oil spilling is great.
I’m a bit puzzled though – if it’s a vacuum, then what happens when the smoke builds up inside the pan? Where can the pressure escape to?
Happy cooking! 🙂
Search me… My missus used it and by the time I got home, it was already done. She says there’s an outlet for pouring out the oil, maybe the smoke/air goes out through there too. Dunno… I think I’m quite comfortable with my good ol’ ways…
Fancy looking frying pan. Like the idea of not having to wash out all the spluttered oil in the kitchen – handy thing to have.
Go ahead…get one! Don’t think I would want to use it. 😉
hahaha, so it’s a frying pan.. i thot it’s some kind of sandwich or pastry maker, haha, it also looks like the ladies’ cosmetic tool too, hahahaha.. yeah, so will food really taste nicer with this frying pan?? hmmmm~~~
That’s what they claim…but so far I’m not convinced. It certainly looks like a sandwich or waffle maker…but it’s a bit bigger.
Yes, I have seen this one before… not the same brand maybe.. I think in Cosway.. exchange and add in some cash.. anyway, let us know whether it is practical or not.. 🙂
This one is from Cosway – exchange using coupons. Must add cash kah? My missus did not tell me….and I can jolly guess why. LOL!!! 😀
how much is it?
Dunno…my missus got it, not me. I thought it was free – just exchange with coupons collected…but now Claire says must add cash. 😦
huahhh… this is one unique cooker but somehow I felt that the normal way of cooking is not hard so why should we pay or even gets an extra equipment for our kitchen. Washing it might be an extra work as well. Anyway I think human are very innovative in making life simpler 🙂
I’m like you. Stick to the good ol’ ways. That’s why I never use blenders and gadgets like those. All the hassle of taking out to use, washing, drying and putting back. Give me the lesung batu anytime… 😉
Tell me about it, I almost got myself one last week. But I have no coupon to exchange! I need to BUY!
Yet to actually see the whole process of using it.
that’s great! I might need one!
Modern gadget for the modern woman… 😉
Aw…guess what? My dad bought this for my mom…ahhaha.but my mom not used to this new tool…ahahhaha…
LOL!!! Then, your mum must be like me… I haven’t tried it out myself but I think I would prefer my good ol’ ways that I’m more used to. We have a microwave…but I don’t even like warming food up in it. Still prefer doing it over the gas stove…
I’ve grilled the fish from both sides now,
from win and lose, and still somehow
it’s life’s illusions I recall.
I really don’t know cooking at all. …♫
Think should get one too no need to mop the floor after every meal muahahaha
Ok, go…get one too and you can let me know whether it is really that good to use.
How do you know when the food is cooked? Everything is closed.
Good question! Now THAT is the problem. My missus said that there was supposed to be some sauce but she cooked it for too long and it dried up on the fish…so it was very salty on the outside. Ok if eaten with rice… I guess that was because she could not see what was going on inside.
Great looking pan!!!…the best part is no more oil splatters. I think it’s one of the product of Cosway if I am not wrong. Anyway, still prefer the usual way of cooking whereby one can inhale the aroma of the food…hehehe!!!……….
Yup, me too…and one can actually see whether it is done to perfection… It is from Cosway.
ehhmm very good..boleh jimat minyak and no smell 🙂
Is that supposed to be good? The no-smell bit, I mean…?
hah? shiok kah cook like dat? no smell no mess… no oomph liddat! 😛
My sentiments exactly. My missus said all her friends bought and praised it to the skies…so she went and got one too. She said it was good but she used once and then put it away, dunno where…and it does not look like she’s going to use it again…ever! Women! LOL!!! 😀
Oooh looks like a nifty gadget! I wouldn’t mind using if I can actually SEE how cooked my food is inside the pan! LOL!
Same here… Blind cooking. Follow recipe – how many minutes, I guess…and I’m hopeless at that. Sure disaster! 😦
This is such a cool gadget, I reckon if it has char grill pattern could be twice the awesome!
Yup…would be great for grilling meat then.
This is special.. but how would we know its cooked properly without constantly checking by opening the lid.
Yay, wait for a few more delicious dishes to be made for you to eat. Om nom nom nom.
Don’t ask me, I don’t know. Maybe women have that special instinct that we don’t? Well,no sign of it anymore – dunno where my missus has stuffed it… 😦
Hehe, faster dig it out. Put it in plain view then hope that some nice dishes will pop up from it magically XD
Nah!!! No need for that. Whatever she cooks nice enough already… 😉
I am a member of Cosway too….no wonder it looks familiar to me.
Free if you have 138 coupons OR
48 redemption coupon (RC) add cash RM79.00 (WM) / RM89.00 (EM) OR
4 redemption point (RP) add cash RM159.00 (WM) / RM169,00 (EM)
They give free receipe book & VCD. Did yr missus have them????
I think there are those things – didn’t ask. Hmmmmm….I wonder if she had 138coupons…or whether she paid some money for it. 😦
Phew! Takut gua mo visit you nowadays…hahahaha. No food post today..last pic doesn’t count. I must be living under the rock here as I have no idea that type of cooking pan even existed. That pan will be splendid for pengecut like me. I very scared to flip over fish,..especially fish and any sizzling meat. Sakit my lengan kena the splattering of hot oil and sometimes even kena my face. Somemore kena lap here and there. Cooking only take a few minutes but the cleaning up of oil takes forever!!
Oh? you’re just like my missus. Insists that the oil must be very hot…and yet scared of the spluttering, so she will throw the fish into the oil from a distance. Of course, the oil ill splash all over the cooker top. Tsk! Tsk! So hopefully, this will solve the problem… No worries! Tomorrow’s post also very safe – not going to make you salivate, I’m sure… 😉
no spluttering ngum me. Hate washing up :p
Just leave it there….and hopefully, somebody will clean it up. Happens all the time in my house. 😦
Can understand your missus! I go wild at Cosway too :)!
Women! All the same. Shopping in the shops, not enough. Catalogue shopping some more. Thank goodness she does not know how to buy things online. LOL!!!
Hah! I’m old school kinda person. Kasi me kuali, kasi me non-stick, but not this. No smell mana syok? Oil splatter ntg la… I’m immune liao…
Me too. And cleaning up the cooker top is definitely less tedious than cleaning and taking care of the gadget.
Yalo… i was wondering how to clean up this stuff… like so complicated. 😦 And u kno sth… if I dun live in an apartment, I’d probably opt for the lesung tumbuk than the blender. Stay in apartment susahla… tumbuk liao later bising la the ppl who lives downstairs. Noisy. 😦 Anyway, i tink use lesung and batu to tumbuk rempah is better …senang mau cuci… sedap summore those things that we tumbuk. Honestly, got difference la…
U goreng food with this gadget got difference ka the taste? U kno my mum used to use the electric stove instead of the gas cooker. My dad says more canggih but she said the food that comes out from the electric stove, less sedap than the gas punya, so stopped using ever since.
Definitely not as nice – same as electric steamboat and charcoal steamboat….and in Sibu, charcoal oven-baked kompia and electric oven baked kompia. I rest my case. You can pad the bottom of your lesung with thick towel…and don’t do it on the floor. Wouldn’t be too noisy and I’m sure it would not be too long. Don’task me how to wash that pan…I wonder how one can get to those joints and hinges. Shudders!
must move with times. So trying a new pan is giving a chance to the people who came up with the innovation
Kinda hard to teach an old dog new tricks…and more often than not, for the sake of convenience and things like that, somehow we need to compromise and get shortchanged where the taste is concerned. Like instead of grilling over a barbecue pit, we use an oven or a non-stick pan instead. Definitely not the same.
>.< alamak… i must be damn old den. u kasi me this thing, i sure say goreng inside pan or kuali easier.
The more we discuss it, the more I feel that this is NOT the thing for me…and this is not the first of the kind that my missus has bought – the rest are all in boxes, all stuffed somewhere – never ever used again after the first time. Tsk! Tsk!
Why fish teriyaki?
If I have that thing, I’ll make a crepe or pancake or fried eggs. Serves the purpose of flipping. 🙂
You do not turn your fish when you fry? LOL!!! As for the fish terrayaki, that one you have to ask my missus… Hehehehehe!!!! Maybe it’s one of the recipes on the complimentary vcd.
Ooo…so can use that to flip eggs? Ohhh…i prefer sunny side up, never flip my eggs, just pour hot oil on it. (eee, health concious ppl sure come saman me if they read this! LOL!)
Yalor…fry in wok with lots of oil for the golden-hairlike edges….and splash the hot oil on to the top of the egg…and get the perfect telur mata kerbau!!! Yum! Yum! No need to flip at all….
Oooo this gadget will be perfect for me, for when I have the urge to cook and eat foods in the middle of the night that have strong smells lolz
+Ant+
Don’t want your neighbours to complain? Wah…what do you cook that’s so smelly? LOL!!!
ah, new toy for the kitchen…..lol!
What toy? Kitchen – cook, not play! LOL!!! 😀
I have the exact same thing at home. Someone gave it to me for my house warming if I’m not mistaken. Still in the box…. unused. Haha, its not like we do much cooking at home and even if we do, i still prefer the good ol wok!
Ooi!!! Who’s the cheap skate? Exchanged free for coupons and give to you. Hehehehehe!!!! But if no coupons and bought cash, quite expensive really…
Mrs Wee’s new toy? Look interesting! Like those pans to use doing pancake.
I’ve yet to try it myself, so don’t really know how good or useful it is… Pancake, just use non-stick pan….no need for this.
What a cool gadget! Don’t think I’ll enjoy cooking with it, although I like the idea of no smoke and no splaterring of oil in the kitchen (my kitchen can look like a showroom kitchen, then! spick and span!).
But I’m weird – I like to use the good old fashion black wok. Somehow must hear the sound of the ladle “clank clank” on the wok, baru jadi. My mom kept telling me to change to one of those non-stick wok but I refuse! 😛
That’s music to the ears. I’ve an old wok – not round anymore because my missus keeps dropping it (heavy) but I still use it even though I’ve two brand new ones in the storeroom. Old habits die hard… LOL!!!
The non-splatter feature is cool. Is this baby still up in the cabinet? haha..
It is. My missus uses it quite often but not me. I’m old school…will just stick to my good ol’ wok. 😉
